And how grateful myself and my family is on the prompt and wonderful help from A to Z with the creation and dispersal of mother's remains. I just received an email to leave a review for New Leaf Cremation. Frankly, I'm surprised that they would even want my opinion after they failed to honor my wishes to remove my mother's ring before she was cremated. Getting this email over a month after my mother passed brought back all of my emotions of anger and disappointment at this business. It was their lack of communication that caused this horrendous mistake in the first place, and now they have proven once again that they lack communication with whomever generates the emails to former clients for reviews. WARNING: If you are seeking out cremation services for a loved one, DO NOT go here. My grandmother passed away recently, and we used New Leaf. We were in communication with Margaret throughout the process. When my grandmother passed away in hospice, she was still wearing her gold wedding band. We communicated to Margaret multiple times that we would like the ring to be removed prior to cremation. She assured us that would be no problem and even once she was cremated and we were coordinating when we would retrieve the ashes, she said we would be able to pick up the ring as well. Fast forward to when we retrieved the ashes, we realized after we left that we had forgotten to ask for the ring. We called New Leaf and they said that we would be able to come back for the ring at any point next week (it was Memorial Day weekend). At this point we were still under the impression the ring was in their possession. On Tuesday my mom called to coordinate a time to pick up the ring. A few hours later she received a call back from New Leaf that it turned out that the ring was never removed, and the ring was gone. As you could imagine this was already extremely distressing but then we began to receive various conflicting stories including: they were unable to remove the ring, while they were removing it the ring broke and fell into the body bag, New Leaf forgot to communicate to the place doing the cremation to remove the ring etc. After multiple stories we were told the director at New Leaf would call us that day once he was finished with funeral services. We waited around for a call that we never received and then late afternoon the next day when we finally received a call back it was not the director, it was Margaret. She proceeded to tell us that the director is in a different time zone, and he felt that it would be unprofessional to call us outside of business hours. 1. That should have been our decision to make if we were ok with him calling us and 2. Why was he unable to wake up a little earlier or go to sleep a little later so that he can give us a call during normal hours given the severity of the situation. Margaret proceeded to apologize and try to explain what had happened. Again, it felt like multiple excuses that all contradicted one another. She said that they were having difficulty removing the ring and reached out to Margaret to ask her how the family would like to proceed, and she did not respond back to them in time. My question to that is, if she knew that she did not get back to the people doing the actual cremation with a response she should have also known at that point that the ring no longer existed. Why did she continue to give us the impression that the ring was in New Leaf's possession and that we would be able to retrieve it? She also gave the excuse that they were dealing with being short staffed and as a result mistakes had been made. I asked her that if they were so short staffed, why would they continue to take on clients knowing that there is a greater chance of error. This is such an emotional time in a person's life, and it truly feels like they are more concerned about profits over actual care and compassion. To add to the carelessness of it all, when I asked about the story we were given about the ring breaking, she said the person that we had spoken to on the phone confused our circumstance with another case that they were dealing with at that time. How are you going to say that this is an extremely rare occurrence when a similar situation happened within the same time frame? Again, for this to be such a difficult period of time for a person to be going through and to be dealing with people that are so utterly careless was devastating. I am getting married this September and planned to wear her ring on my wedding day and now I am unable to do so because of the lack of care, compassion, and total deceitfulness from New Leaf. No monetary compensation will ever make up for the sentimental value that this ring held. New Leaf should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for essentially running a factory. read more
