Judging by 2/3 of the food items that we were actually served the food isn't bad. Is it over the moon amazing? No. But it's decent. Ambience? 5/5 fantastic. It's a really cool spot, great music, great overall look. Really cool spot. Would've loved to have hung out there for a bit. Service? -10/5. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees and we're served an entree for a neighboring table, a correct entree, and an appetizer in that order. When we were given the wrong entree the bartender didn't do or say anything. He watched us and the neighbor couple try to figure out what entree was in front of me. Eventually us customers figured out it was our neighbors food and I passed it to them. I was then served my entree. A full five minutes later we were served our appetizer. At this point my boyfriend asked where his entree was and the bartender was flippant and said "hopefully it's coming" then walked away. 30 minutes later we asked for the bill after the bartender didn't acknowledge we were not served our full meal nor were our drinks tended to. He didn't even apologize for literally never receiving our full order. I will never come back to this spot again because our service was so insanely terrible. Had all of our food been served to us, our orders been tended to, and our presence acknowledged I'd give it another try. read more

Kitschy bar, frozen slush cocktails served in tiki glasses, a karaoke room, Chinese food served in compostable to-go plates/bowls... wait, what?! Yes, the food is served in to-go plates. You heard that right. So, I guess order as much as you'd like because you can just take it home afterwards. And after a night of drinking, Chinese food just sounds really good and comforting. We ordered a ton of stuff. Pretty much everything in the menu over the course of two dinners during the week. The dumplings, cucumbers, and prawns were sooo good that we had to get them twice. Everything else was okay too--albeit a bit over-seasoned. Like you gotta order another cup of white rice to temper the strong flavors. The server was very efficient. If anybody in the table wasn't ready with their drink orders, she was gone and was back after a few minutes. What else? Only one karaoke room--Sad. I'd actually come back to this place, but I'd be a hesitant to recommend it unless I've given the whole spiel of what to expect. read more

Ok so I love this place for a quick silly cocktail and go but I can no longer ignore the insanely bad service. Each of the young female servers walk around briskly with cold expressions going out of their way to not make eye contact with anyone. The bartender has THE WORST attitude. If you hate your job, you should find a new one. Don't be angry at everyone because it's busy and you have to actually work. I have never had to wait for a table because I A) Know enough about restaurants to realize small places fill up quickly so I B) Go around happy hour on typically less busy nights and C) Keep the party small. 2 to 4 is perfect. I have also gone alone after a good work out, sat at the bar, filled my exhausted body with a divinely mixed cocktail or delightfully blended frozen beverage then crammed more food into me than I should... without a drop of regret. I adore a simple plate of food perfectly prepared and that's what I get here. The recycled containers are GENIUS and easy to cap to take with me. I order one entree, one side and I always get two meals out of it. I can't say enough good things about the place, really. The loud music? I came here with my friend to find a good place to drink and eat. We don't get out much so we're excited to try this new place out. The ambiance was retro Asian with cool lanterns and was really lively on that Friday night. If you enjoy crowds and loud music in a dark room, this is your place. The place was packed but told we would be seated in 15 mins but was offered a table like one hour later so good thing we sat at the bar. My Lager on tap was served in a warm glass and the beer itself wasn't cold which was a bit disappointing. Food was okay overall for being bar food. I enjoyed Ma po tofu and also green beans. 3 stars because of lukewarm beer, okay food. Next time I will try different drinks. read more

Karaoke is set up separate from the bar - it's a private karaoke room that is free (first come first serve) and is a set up with a mic, keyboard and Youtube. Went upon recommendation of a friend. The decor and atmosphere is fun, I would return for drinks. The food was so-so. We ordered quite a bit: short ribs, tso chicken, long beans, chow fun, oyster mushrooms, calamari. The best things were the first 3 listed but everything all started to taste the same, as though they all have the same seasoning base, flavor profile, whatever you want to call it. And there was a citrus-y note on some of the dishes that made me pause to try to figure out what it was. Not in a good way. The service was alright, they are more order takers and definitely into "turn and burn" even though we sat at 4:30pm and there wasn't anyone waiting for a table. Went tonight on the early side (4:30) to check NLT out, having seen the announcements and reviews. I wanted to keep an open mind, so went in with no expectations. Verdict: really good food, and ambiance that's nice if you know what to expect. This is a bar that serves really good, interesting versions of fairly classic Chinese dishes from a variety of styles. Remember that. It's not a sit-down restaurant that is loud and cramped; it's a loud bar that serves much-better-than-average Chinese bar food. Service was perfect, attentive, knowledgable and casual, can't say anything bad about it. The slushy drinks were quite good, although very sweet (to be expected.) Food: wontons were nearly perfect, although I know some people prefer thin wrappers, these were thick, which I like. Lamb with cumin was amazing, just like I remember having in Beijing at street vendors, although much more tender than that. Mongolian beef was as expected, not my favorite dish to order, but I enjoyed it. The Honey pecan prawns were much less sticky-sweet-mayo-gloopy than you would get at a cantonese place, which I liked, but they're different than what you'd get at other places. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu and visiting again. If you know what to expect, this is a fun place with good food and drinks. I wish it was walking distance to the junction, I think it would do much better in a larger spot with more foot traffic, but I hope it works for them in this location. If you want it to be any of the other hundred typical Chinese places in Seattle, it's not, which is fine by me. read more

I was so excited for New Luck Toy to open. The promise of skeeball, boozy slushes, and Chinese food only blocks from my house was almost too much to handle. Unfortunately, I've visited twice now and there's much to be desired. The boozy slushes are pretty good, but mostly hipster concoctions that are borderline tasty. The skeeball is actually just one machine in the hallway next to the door. Strange location and hard to enjoy playing. The food...well I wouldn't go there for the food. The menu is limited and we've ordered approximately half of it on these two visits. Everything tastes like it was just dunked in salt and five spice and then sent out. Like others have said, so salty. Also, I wouldn't order the fried rice if you were actually looking for rice. It's mostly bean sprouts and pineapple. The atmosphere is cool but small, and it fully encompasses the customer does all the work vibe. You seat yourself or sign up on a board and you order your meal and drinks on a card with a whiteboard pen. This standoffish approach doesn't really bother me, but it doesn't engender any real warmth or connection with the restaurant. read more

If you live in West Seattle, you should go check it out. They are going for the old school, hipster thing and it works pretty well. Place is super loud and tight on space, so don't expect anything intimate or quiet conversations. Dumplings are pretty good, and slushy drinks are fun and tasted like they should. Some items were really salty. Others had mentioned the staff with attitude. Definitely saw that but didn't turn us off as much as some others. I wish they weren't trying to make it such a lounge / bar. Just not enough space. Hoping to find a time where it isn't shoulder to shoulder and they tweak the sodium levels a bit. I'll go back. I live in WS. If I didn't, I wouldn't make the trip right away. I'd give them a while to get settled in. read more

I was with a friend and he ordered and went to the bathroom. Before he got back, someone tried to take his seat. "First come first serve," he said. Swipe left on this place. It's really trying very hard to appeal but it's so far off the mark it's hard to decipher who it's trying to appeal to. I went for the skee-ball appeal. There's no quarter machine and there's no place to put your things while you are playing. Basically the window where food is picked up is your only option. The on tap cocktails were paltry and pretty costly for the amount of alcohol you actually get. The layout is severely disjointed and it's hard not to feel like you are in the way of something or someone.
