I came here with a friend for a weekday late breakfast and was surprised by the number of options available. I decided on the Veggie Monster omelet, which came with a choice of grits or hash browns and toast. I opted for the hash browns, and asked for them to be well done, because in Seattle, they serve hash browns undercooked. The omelet was good, though it lacked flavor and was a little light on cheese. The hash browns were crispy on the top, and raw underneath. Tip: if you ever order breakfast in Seattle, ask for the hash browns to be cooked on both sides. The meal was filling and was accompanied by a cup of good coffee. The waitress was super friendly and came by often to refill my coffee. It has been over a year that we moved to the Portland area, and I still have not found a restaurant with such good food and service as Circa in West Seattle. Our daughter and I came up for a concert in Kent, and of course we had to come visit our friends at Circa. We even had the opportunity to meet Bill and Gretchen's son Jackson as he was also working the floor. We ordered a ton of food as we knew the leftovers would also be excellent. And it was all phenomenal. And the music continues to provide the vibe. We were there on a Thursday at lunch so the special menu also was available and it was excellent. We had a BBQ Chicken Salad...the best I have ever had, a Pastrami Sandwich, a Meatloaf Sandwich, the Panzanella Salad, The Original Sloppy Joe, a tremendous Crisp Meringue & Berry Cake and of course Gretchen had to bring out the Warm Guittard Dark Chocolate Cake. This place surprised me because it is a bar and restaurant. Usually bar people rate food yummy when I think it was the drinks that influence them more that their taste buds. This place was yummy yum yum. Their special beef stroganoff was 5 stars it was temperature hot even when you were half way in it. The sauce was like a Swedish meatball but better. The chicken Picasa was yummy and the mash potatoes was even yummy. I didn't care for the veggies it was like shredded Brussels sprouts a couple of zucchini. Went to Circa for the first time in West Seattle. Little spot that is tucked away and could probably pass it without even thinking about. Well, don't! This is a quant little place but packs a punch. We first got there and this place was slammed. I can see why because the service and food were spectacular! The bartender, Haley, was very attentive and was pushing drinks out all night while we were there. Obviously if you know me, I love sitting at the bar and service was great. Both dishes were full of flavor. My scrambled eggs were light and buttery just the way I love them and oh my that praline syrup was heavenly. Came in as a first time patron came in around 6pm as it was just starting to fill up. Still plenty of tables and bar area, but it got really busy at 6:30-7:30pm. So, glad came a bit earlier to hit the sweet spot and stayed through the busy time. Started with a couple of cocktails from the bar that were really good and perused the menu. A quite unique menu with a Mexican dish, steak, salads, meatloaf, burgers, etc. I heard that tonight had red beans and rice as it spoke to me; so I picked the red beans and rice. We also had the flank steak with salad and mash potato's. The red beans & rice with andouille sausage was fantastic with a bit of spicy but not over the top. The salad dressing was really good too. We finished with some apple caramel pie that was just the right amount of green apple and sweet caramel. The ambience was warm and inviting with great service, hospitality and food and drinks. Unfortunately, this was one of those times when my experience just didn't square with previous Yelp reviews. Perhaps it was a one-off for Circa. Service was friendly but extremely slow. The staff seemed busy but things weren't getting done. From the time we were seated to the time we were served, it was almost 90 minutes. It became the topic of conversation at our table and all of my guests were disappointed. The food was good but not remarkable. I would say no better than I could have made at home and I'm no chef. Again, this became what the table was talking about. No one finished their meal and only one person took the remaining portion home in a box. We had all gathered that evening for another purpose, which is what we should have been talking about, but our conversation was hijacked by the strained quality of our experience. This is such a locals place. Have been here too many times to count over the years - and have had only very good experiences, whether it be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I would love to give this place five stars, as it has become one of our favorite breakfast spots, and the food and service have been consistently excellent. The Herb-ie Hancock Omelet - so called because of its herb content (nothing to do with Herbie Hancock) is a "melt in your mouth" house specialty that is not to be missed. To avoid being accused of spending a disproportionate amount of verbiage ragging on a place that we like so much, I once again emphasize that the food and service are great and that we plan to go back there often. But - and here is why they don't get five stars: Maybe this has to do with economic survival in Seattle, but I find the place a wee bit on the pricey side. I always end up gulping at the total on our receipt - which does, however, include a generous tip I add for the excellent service. Also, come prepared to pay cash, because they tack on a junk fee (3%) for using your credit card, which I find offensive. In terms of breakfast bakery items, we recommend the coffee cake. Their biscuits are not traditional baking powder biscuits but slices of some sort of dry, crumbly cake-like substance. They aren't bad, but they aren't up to my expectations, either. And if you order toast, you only get a single slice. It's good bread, but sheesh! If you want two slices, you're going to have to order a second one on the side, which I find a bit stingy. And if you order the excellent beignets, be advised that they come served up in dunes of powdered sugar, which is not really classy. Parking is a bit tight, but there is an unmarked, unstriped parking in the back of the restaurant that you can use if you are a patron, as long as you don't block access to the dumpsters. They prefer that you angle park. All in all, highly recommended, at least for breakfast, but with a few caveats that I wish I didn't have to draw attention to. read more

Our favorite restaurant in West Seattle! We have been coming to circa for years and they never disappoint. We love how cozy it is inside and the service is always top tier and feels like you're just hanging out with friends. The food is literally incredible every single time no matter what we get. We were just there for Valentine's day and the menu blew us away. I had the braised pork and it should be a permanent menu item. I have never had better braised pork in my life. There are various beer and wine along with a full bar. It's 21 and up, so leave the kids with a baby sitter. Parking can be a struggle because of the movie theater. It's open for lunch then closes and reopens at 5 pm. They don't take reservations, but we have been fortunate to get a table within 15 minutes or less. Tables turn over quickly. Wow! What a neighborhood gem. I am so sad it's taken me a couple years to try this place out, but guarantee I'll be coming back more regularly. I really liked the vibe inside. Lots of wood, small votive candles on the table, and dimly lit - enough where you can read and see your food, but not blindly bright. The food was delicious. I wish I took pictures of it all, but I was so excited to eat it, that once I started, I didn't want to stop. We got the orange cauliflower as an appetizer. They lightly fry it so it still has the integrity of cauliflower but isn't mushy or covered in batter. The littler pieces got really crunchy and it was a little treat in your mouth. We devoured it. I probably could eat that over and over again. For our main courses, we got the bbq chicken salad and the skirt steak dinner. The salad was fresh, crisp, and the chicken was yummy. Everything went well together. The skirt steak dinner was an absolute winner. This may be a new go to for me when I'm wanting steak. The skirt steak was cooked well and the flavor was delicious. Steak melted in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were delicious - creamy and flavorful. Some of the best I've had. Lastly, the veggies that came with it were cooked nicely. They maintained their crispness without being raw, and the broccoli and Brussels had a nice little char on them. The sauce that was served with the meal was also really yummy. Just typing this makes me want to go back and eat it again. The only thing we didn't love (still liked it though) was our dessert. We got the spumoni terrine and the flavors were good and it tasted good, it just was a little too frozen so it was hard to get in and eat it. Our server was attentive, which was nice because I think she may have been the bartender as well. She did a great job attending to the bar guests at the rail and also those sitting at tables in the bar. She told us the specials right away, got our drinks, and checked in on us. I was happy with the service. As I mentioned earlier, I had always heard about Circa but hadn't yet made it out to eat there. This has become one of my new favorites in West Seattle and I can't wait to come back and try more things (although that steak dinner will be hard to pass up). read more

Update and disclosure: Visit during Covid-19 pandemic. We've been long time customers, since the early 2000's. And we took a long break from them when we felt like their food has gone downhill. We decided to give them another chance earlier this year and we've been second chance fans since. My hubby is a total fan of their banana pancakes with praline syrup, which is why we come here. Recently (last week), they've just opened up for dine-in following proper precautions (sanitizer, social distancing, limited capacity, etc...). Honestly, we're so glad they opened back up. Currently, their menu didn't include the coveted banana pancakes, so the hubs got the biscuits and gravy, he loved it, too, at least he's got a back up. I, on the other hand, usually get the Standard, I keep it simple - eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. Additionally, their tap list is pretty great! If you're in West Seattle, give Circa some love and come by for a great meal in a cool neighborhood! This was my first time dining at Circa, and it was excellent. I came here for brunch, totally forgetting it was mother's day...but I got seated basically right away somehow with a party of 4. The place is pretty small, but it's nice and relatively dark inside which I am a fan of. I ordered the banana pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. The bacon was perfect for me, thin and crispy. The eggs were eggs, very enjoyable. The pancakes were great! I don't know what the syrup was but it tasted very good. There were a lot of banana slices in the pancakes, so there was good caramelized banana flavor throughout. I will order them again, but definitely will be back to try other items as well. read more
