I love National Sinus Institute (used to be New Mexico Sinus Institute)! They are very warm and friendly and always looking for ways to assist you. The doctors are very good. My daughter had sinus problems her entire life. Always congested, bad breath, just not fun. They started out with basic sinus treatments, allergy treatments, etc. Ultimately they suggested a simple in office procedure. I asked the staff about the complaint here that suggested that they recommend surgeries to make money, etc. They said that, in actual fact, they perform a lower percentage of surgeries to patients seen than the average ENT office nationwide. They were extremely accommodating of my needle phobic daughter. They were able to give her a medication to help relax her and she went through the procedure with no problem whatsoever. They were so kind and loving and Dr. Knight even asked her what kind of music she'd like to listen to during the procedure. By the next day my daughter was already amazed at the difference it made for her. She had that procedure over a year ago and she breathes better than she ever has in her life. No more congestion, no more bad breath. She still has to take her allergy medication, but after the procedure...it actually helps! read more

On average the wait to get to talk to somebody for making an appointment is 6 people, so minimum half hour wait... No matter when you call. Sometimes you can leave your phone number for a callback. I have never been called back. No email, no chat option. deliberately all communication goes through the phone. Stubborn, old fashioned, arrogant and negligent towards people who need sinus care. You can do better than this. read more

I just received a phone call from national sinus Institute thought it was to confirm my appt next week but unfortunately it was to tell me they need to reschedule me due to the Dr not being in that day..I have waited almost 2 months for this appt and now they want to reschedule me out to September???? Oh hell NO! I had this appt scheduled from the lousy visit I'd received couple months back because I would be seeing another Dr here but after today's call there is a complete lack of failure to provide any kind of quality care in a timely manner. I'm yet again put off to get a diagnosis of the webs and weird/unknown the 1st appt left me hanging with to have to start all over again somewhere else cuz this place doesn't provide any quality care. Extremely unprofessional. Failed to call for a phone appointment on Thursday 1/11 and when we called to see what was going were told the Dr. Was running behind. When we called back again 3 hours later we're told the lab sent in the wrong info and they would call by end of day or first thing next day, no call back and it noon on 1/13 now they want to reschedule for Monday 1/16. We already had to reschedule another important appointment because of their poor management. read more

They do not respect their patients and are Totally Unorganized 1st Appt; they cancelled on me the day before with no explanation, despite receiving a Text reminder confirming the appt AFTER they called. 2nd Appt; Dr. prescribed me medication, but it was NEVER sent to the pharmacy. They wanted an allergy screening for next time. -3rd; AGAIN cancelled the day before, Because the doctor was not trained in doing the screening. Why they scheduled it in the first place or it wasn't noticed BEFORE then is beyond me. -4th; Road leading to the institute was shut down. Called to inform them what's up: was put on hold for 45 minutes before ANYONE answered. When they did pick up it was to tell me they were putting me back on hold and didn't get back to me for another 30 minutes. They LITERALLY did nothing for me; Office Visit was $500 (after insurance) AND 3 days of PTO lost. No apologies ever. Not to mention hearing workers gossip about another patient. Incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional. I waited 2 months for an appt with Dr. Schmedes, only to receive a text less than 24 hours before the appt., stating it was cancelled. I called and was told "his schedule changed". I come to discover later, he routinely cancels patient appts. for surgical times. Obviously, makes more money on surgeries than he does seeing patients in the office. I rescheduled for three weeks later with an NP. Received emails, calls and texts, confirming appt. day and time. Then, after receiving one call the day before to confirm the time, I receive another call less than an hour later, saying the appt. time was an hour later than originally scheduled. I called, and was repeatedly told by Armando that this is the appt. time, after I had already scheduled time off of work for the correct, original appt. time. Since he was no help at all, I called the national scheduling number-the lady who answered was extremely apologetic, and told me that the original appt. time was scheduled incorrectly and should never have been scheduled for a new patient. I told her I already scheduled time off of work for this appt. time. She did give me the original appt. time, but because of so much unprofessionalism, I called back and cancelled. I called Presbyterian ENT-they answered right away and scheduled me for next week. Zero accountability on the part of National Sinus Institute-I would never recommend this facility to anyone. I've had ongoing health issues for over three years now and have seen countless physicians (in a different state) and also a few here in Albuquerque. They have run a myriad of tests from blood work, MRI's, brain scans, ultrasounds, cardiac stress tests and the list goes on and on. None of them had any answers for me to explain why I was feeling so awful every day. Initially I was told I had mononucleosis and given strict instructions to stay in bed for six weeks. I am in my fifties so that seemed really far fetched to me that I'd have that, but I did as instructed...and never got any better. It began to feel as if none of them were even listening to me about my symptoms. My newest doctor in Albuquerque agreed to send me to an ENT a.k.a. Otolaryngologist at the National Sinus Institute of NM. One appointment and a CT scan later and I had a diagnosis in about a half an hour and am elated to begin treatment and end all of this suffering once and for all. I really feel like they listen and care about me as a patient and that's important. The staff here has been great and I'd highly recommend them to anybody who needs exceptional care. read more

I saw Dr Gregg Schmedes at the new Academy Road offices. As a patient, I am 100% satisfied. Dr Schmedes listened carefully and solved my problem quickly and painlessly. In a city where it can be tough to see an ENT on short notice, NMSI is a real blessing. read more

I received this text half an hour before my appointment. It was the third text I'd had, confirming it. When I went in, however, the receptionist treated me like the dumbest person on the face of the earth. How could I possibly have been so stupid so as not to have known that it was a phone appointment, and that I should not have shown up for it? I dunno, perhaps it had something to do with having been told the exact opposite, three times? You think? read more

This surgeon had ample opportunity in the weeks leading up to my son's procedure to review his imaging and records. NOT TO MENTION we had multiple EMERGENCY room visits, where Dr Schmedes was not available. Ever. However his other commitments are more important than his patients apparently, as he chose to wait until ONE day before my son's surgery to simply cancel it. He then attempt to refer him to completely different hospital and completely different surgeons because... why?? I don't know? Because he did not communicate with me. This was all done backwards and without regards for my son's LIFE. A not acceptable to be left hanging out in the wind and not communicated with. read more

As someone who has been going there since they open their doors in 2010, I have seen so many things change, but no in a good way. First doctor A stopped seeing patients and the only way to see him was to request him to come in the room. Then, he stopped seeing patients outright. Next, he moved to TX and patients found out from other providers and will only do surgeries and have PA see the patients only. However, this is unsettling for his patients who have been with the office since day one. Now he has a new billing company who just doses not want to bill the insurance correctly. If you have both Medicare (QMB, extra help) and Medicaid advantage be ready for them to bill, be ready for them to bill direct Medicaid and not your advantage plan or your extra help. The company owner Dr. A now has a secondary company doing his billing and it is all screwed up. The staff at the office great like PA Jeff, but NMSI is going down hill fast. I hope this provides whoever is in charge a walk-up call, because any more issues with billing and I will consider to find a new provider. read more

Can I post below a 1? My son needed a procedure and while the Dr. was nice the staff is disorganized, does not return messages, and is all around a mess. I was told the staff would call me to schedule the procedure- NO CALL, I called. I was told that I would receive a call throughout the process-NO CALL. The day before the procedure I called because I had not heard from the hospital about pre-op information they told me to wait for the hospital at around 4 the hospital still had not called I called them back to be to be passed around finally I received a call informing me not to feed my child or give my child any drinks after midnight because they would fix the issue and call me first thing in the morning. I followed their instructions (SN: My child has ASD and has low communication skills) but NO CALL was made. I finally called them to inform them that my child has been up since 6am and their establishment has been open since 8 and I have not gotten any information like I was promised. I was told they would call the hospital and call back. NO CALL. I called AGAIN to express the severity of the situation that my son has not had food or drink and I am still waiting on a call from them. I left countless messages and talked to so many people to be finally told that the surgery was cancelled. Robin was the only person to finally get me the information I needed. The whole situation was a complete nightmare. read more

My appointment was with Olivia, PA. I had severe trauma to my left ear, due to a fall. She looked into my left ear, said nothing was wrong. She told me to keep using the ear drops that I received from urgent care, until the bottle was empty. She spent less than 5 minutes with me. I did not receive any Patient report. When I went to the front desk at the end of my appointment. The receptionist said goodbye. read more

The staff are very warm and friendly at this place, but it is medically not trustworthy. I went with a problem of persistent headache, which had not responded to antibiotics. The first red flag was that all the doctors here are surgeons, and initial care is done by Physicians Assistants. The PA I saw was very nice. I brought the report of a CT scan I had of my sinuses. She stuck camera up my noise (which your insurance will be charged for), told me I had an obvious infection and prescribed a stronger antibiotic for 2 weeks. . When that didn't work I was told my only option was surgery to open sinus passages. 2 weeks later I went to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist in New York who said the CT scan was completely normal, there was nothing wrong with my sinuses, the diagnosis of infection was incorrect, and sinus issues were not the cause of my headaches. I ALMOST WENT THROUGH WITH AN UNNECESSARY SURGICAL PROCEDURE on the advice of the NM Sinus Institute. It looks to me like they are an outfit designed to make money off insurance by doing sinus surgeries whether or not you need them. So be sure to get a trustworthy second opinion before you follow through with them. read more

Poor Overall experience although the actual medical care was superior. Dr Alexander, PA Olivia Pena and the CT technician were excellent in their care. The office staff from reception to surgical scheduler to Office Manager, Brad Rogers, were extremely unhelpful. They were unwilling to provide basic pre operation instructions despite the center having their own printed copy which they could have given or read to me. Despite multiple queries, I received no information until my husband physically visited the office 2 times and went to the hospital to demand information the day before scheduled surgery. I was not contacted by the staff for any follow up despite promises they would follow up. Also, it took over 5 weeks to get a full reading from my CT scan showing an abnormality. I had positive results, but the office cultured is unfriendly and unhelpful. This was at the Rio Rancho Location. read more
