New Morning Bakery: Well first off, there was absolutely NO SMELL. When I walk into a 'bakery' I expect to smell baking! It's kind of sterile décor with reflective surfaces so it was loud in there; the ceiling fans, the music, and the equipment all making a lot of noise. There are practically no vegan offerings; limited to plain bagel or fruit salad. They offer premade foods like burritos and quiche. My partner got a burrito he said was ok. On a recent college visit we grabbed breakfast before our tour. Great coffee and baked goods. I had a slice of their delicious and hearty quiche. Hubs had the breakfast burrito. Seems like they have a lot, but when you get there they are only able to make the hot sandwiches, anything cold is premade or you can't get it which is a bit frustrating when you're not expecting that. after ordering they said they'd call out my name, but the place was so busy i couldn't hear it, wasn't aware it was going to be at the other end since everyone was getting their food at the register so i stood there for 30 minutes before eventually walking up to the counter and asking why it was taking so long. they gave me my BLT, it was cold and untoasted, the bacon was so slimy and white i didn't even eat it i just gave it to a guy on the street... definitely won't be going back, but my boss likes it so there is something for some people there, just not sure what it is. read more

I've lived in Corvallis for 6 years and have gone to new morning on many different occasions. Their food and coffee used to be pretty good and there were a wide variety of foods and breakfast options you could order from. Sadly in the past 2 years the food has gone way downhill. Most of it tastes pre prepared by a frozen food company and then microwaved on site. Their breakfast menu has been redone so that most of the in-house breakfast options are gone, and their deserts taste stale. The establishment also seems to have a lot of staff turnover which seems to have recently gotten worse. read more

This place has the worst management I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing. A lady came in while they were somewhat busy looking for a job. She was a well dressed lady with resume in hand and asked to speak to the owner if she was available. The "manager " then proceeded to come out and embarrass the possible future hire and yelled loud enough for anyone in the building to hear her as if the lady was a nuisance! She very abruptly and rudely hollered at "it's obviously too busy right now, there is a line out the door" ( which there was not a line out the door) she then repeated herself louder as I watched from across the room. That poor lady must've felt so embarrassed and I felt very bad for her. This is no way to handle that situation at all!! I quietly stepped out of line and left!! I will never go back and hope the owner gets wind of this as it should not be tolerated by anyone representing what you would expect to be "good" service. It's not even the holidays yet and this was made soooo stressful for everyone in this building. Equal respect for everyone should be given as soon as they walk thru the door... Another time I went there with my wife just to check the place out and got a complete attitude from the girl working the front counter because we didn't buy anything as she stared at her empty tip jar... Sorry, attitudes make or break you and clearly the management needs help with theirs and need to teach that to the whole staff. Haven't even tasted the food because of bad attitudes. read more

We enjoyed our quick breakfast at this cute cafe. We were a little dubious when the worker popped our selections into the microwave, but they tasted delicious after all. This establishment has a small hometown feel the minute you walk in! We were looking for a close place to walk to and grab something quick for the day's activity. And this place provided just that! We came back the next morning and sat down for a late breakfast before hitting the road. We ordered egg and bacon sandwich, biscuit and gravy, coffee and organic orange juice. All the food was yummy. Ok, this place is open for breakfast and lunch and I think it's a really nice spot for either. Definitely go there in the morning to get your fresh baked goods or maybe a slice of quiche or a bagel with a smear. Another good idea and one which we did was to order sandwiches inside salads and stuff so we could have a picnic on our leisurely drive south through Oregon. All the workers were very friendly and helpful. It's right down the street from the Marriott where we stay in Corvallis. So it will be one of our regular places for morning coffee, pastry etc. Or for takeout lunch or such. They do have a dining area if you want to eat in so feel free. Go get you some!! read more

I hadn't been to New Morning in a few years and decided to stop in on a Wednesday. The interior could use some updating and a deep clean from what I saw from the entrance and ordering area. There was no line, and absolutely no customer service. The four people behind the counter were having a personal conversation and sipping on their coffee. Not one of them acknowledged me. I waited about four minutes and still nobody greeted me or approached me asking if I needed assistance. Yes I could have said something but their job description includes providing customer service. Well to be very honest, when we go to Corvallis we generally go to Sharon's Cafe. It was a Monday and Sharon's is closed Mondays (we found out that day LOL). We decided we really needed to eat 'something' so we to New Morning Bakery on 2nd. Hmmmm. Why do we always end up disappointed here? I mean the place is open with plenty of seating. It's cafeteria style with counter helpers who attend each customer as they become available. It's very unfriendly. I am very friendly. Oh and the bathrooms are gender neutral and clean. That's always a plus! The food. They have an incredible selection of good for you. Nutritious foods and downright naughty, you just broke your diet for the whole month treats! Some items are hot (I regretted not ordering the hot entree) at the front of the line (usually just one) by the coffee machine (I only ordered coffee once b/c it's just not my cup of Joe they serve there BUT I know they make lattes, etc. ). Other items like quiche (very yummy but needs to be heated a bit longer) and burritos (they're...ok) are made ahead and reheated. Other items like salads and Sammie's are also made ahead and they look really really good. This is the thing though, it's just so painful getting through the line (like asking fo Mayo or buyer or just making sure something is heated up enough) and feeling like that price you just paid and the tip they requested was truly worth it. They ask that you bus your own table and to me the $$$ along with the cafeteria style is not worthy of or for that matter. There is no friendly chit chat just 'who next?', 'have you decided on something?', 'oh! You want your cinnamon roll hot?', and there's the famous 'butter? Oh! You want butter for your cinnamon roll?' In short, if you don't mind the cafeteria style and you're are ok with the coolness from helpers and having to bus your own table go for it! The food really saves them and I'm sure if your a regular or a friend from the local college you'll get friendlier service. Stopped here for breakfast a few times while visiting the area. Every time was a difficult experience in ordering food. Once we ordered and some of the items we ordered were not on our order. Once someone in front of me asked for eggs (which showed temporarily unavailable), but got eggs because it was a misunderstanding... but when I asked, they said no. Apparently the cook wasn't there yet, which I can understand, but if they were making eggs anyway, why couldn't they have made me eggs? It's a deli , coffee shop and bakery . Order and then sit down. Not really a full meat deli but salad type -!: panini sandwiches. The bakery is the star here. Breads and cakes and pies and cookies. I have enjoyed pecan pie, the cheesecake is amazing and not too mushy. The cannolis are huge and perfectly seasoned with light cinnamon and chocolate. And the shell is not too thick. The peanut butter pie is unique and tasty. If you are a fan of peanut butter this will be your jam. It was so yummy. The lemon bars are done without powered sugar. Very tart and solid not jelly-ish more of a smooth solid filling and very tart. The crust was the sweet flaky complement that was more shortbread sweet and was perfection. Next my most favorite is the cinnamon rolls. They have small , large and with and without icing. Go for it . Any of them. The bread is not doughy but not dry. Just amazing. Not too much with the spice. And will not give you that cinnamon stomach ache. Many Hanukkah options and vegan treats. I love the coffee specials. But the entire ceiling is in need of cleaning, there are dust clumps everywhere, and the potential for food plates or preparation area contamination is possible. I don't understand why health dept. checks don't call this out Furthermore, the floor was covered with crumbs and debris, as can be seen from the photos. The food is just not good. It looks great and it just isn't. I wanted to like it. We have tried a few times. Things are dry, lacking flavor etc. last time we went we purchased 6 different items to try and they all disappointed. Coffee was awful. The atmosphere feels like a school cafeteria. Sadly, the other reviews are spot on. I went there Friday night for the first time in three years and was disappointed to see it had deteriorated to the point where it should be shut down. Where to begin? Ordered the $11.95 combo of the spinach-bacon quiche, "side" of Greek salad (drenched in dressing with almost no ingredients), and a bag of salted chips. When I asked for a substitution since I can't eat salted chips, she grabbed the bag back. I said, "Nope. I'm paying for it, I'm taking it, even if to give to a friend or homeless person." The quiche? Cold and undercooked. The eggs were runny. I ended up getting sick later that night. Now the worst part. A couple was sitting at the adjacent table and I overheard one tell the other, "Don't look up." Yep. I looked up. Wish I had looked up before ordering. I don't understand how the health department hasn't shut them down and instead keeps giving them passing grades. Are they paying off the health department? I should've taken pics of the carpet. It was filthy. Hadn't been vacuumed or steamed in years. But the photos of the ceiling tell you the whole story. Do you really want to eat in a place that doesn't care about your health? The overpriced slice of quiche that was barely cooked (making me sick) combined with the disgusting environment is enough to convince me to never return. Today order: greek salad, Hungarian mushroom soup, spinach quiche and a chocolate dipped coconut macaron. Coconut macaron- ok Chicken Greek salad- disgusting: green peppers chopped huge, Feta chunks big but no chicken. Mealy cucumbers, black olives missing. Left 75% untouched Hungarian soup- a watery flavorless bowl left 90% untouched Spinach quiche- no flavor, spinach was chopped and sprinkled like parsers decorated custard. Left 75% untouched They are advertised here as having gluten free options. That is a lie id you do not have bread for a gf sandwich or to dip in a soup. No gf wraps either. No gf pasta salad. It was a waste on my money and time. Walked to "squirrels" and had their chicken little sandwich in a gluten free bun and my partner hard a cheese steak and a beer.
