Upon arrival the vibe was okay, until the bartender that works the burbon street pool side bar got very very nasty and rude with me, as well as other guest. I recommend fixing that issue the most because customer service and hospitality is not his strong suit. Also, towels had holes in the them, the room was pretty awesome., other than having to pay for the drinks in the fridge at a $2 rate. Let's talk about parking and having to pay for parking, I get that it's a small area but the unused parking lot in the back should be open to hotel guests. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly environment. My room was spacious and spotless. They cleaned the room everyday and were willing to work around my schedule to do so. The shower and bathroom sink could have better water pressure but that's not a deal breaker. They offer a nice continental breakfast every morning with plenty of coffee. The poolside bar is very nice. Jeff in particular is engaging and friendly. The bar stays open till 4. The pool and hot tub are both sparkling all day long. Staying in the heart of Duval Street can be checked off of my bucket list fortunately with the help of the New Orleans House. Like any hotel, there are pros and cons, and since you're reading this, I'm about to walk you through them. Pros: 1. Location, location, location. Honestly, I don't think the location could be any better than it is. 2. For guest there is a daily free happy hour in the garden bar from 5:30-7p. 3. Free breakfast in the morning featuring bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and cereals. 4. Discounted parking ($10 per day) for guests at the lot across the street. 5. Guests pay no cover charges at 801 Bourbon and the Bourbon Street saloon as well as receiving free entry to 801 Bourbon's drag shows. 6. Free wifi (also a con because I had trouble working it). 7. In-room fridges. 8. An a/c that worked well. 9. Two large sundecks. Neutral: 1. The gym was nice, but oddly located right off of the lobby and didn't have much equipment. 2. The wifi situation. 3. They lock the lobby at night which makes sense, but if you're staying in a room that faces Duval Street, to get to the garden bar/pool area, you have to leave the hotel and walk either through the bar or around the entire building to enter at night. 4. The hotel at night was not quiet based on the fact that it's sitting on top of a bar, but fortunately the a/c was loud enough to drown most of the noise out. Cons: 1. Not great shower pressure in the bathroom. 2. The bed was not very comfortable. 3. The building itself is pretty outdated. They do well with what they have, but it could use a slight makeover. 4. The layout is a odd. 5. The pool chairs are rundown and need to be replaced. I was a little worried my thickems body would break them. Listen, pros and cons aside, I enjoyed my stay here. Staying in a gay hotel was a lot of fun. The garden area is men only allowing it to be clothing optional if that's your taste. It's mine, so I would walk around as God intended me to be, so look if you'd like while I'm sipping on a drink in the hot tub. While it's not the most beautiful hotel or guesthouse I've been to, it truly does serve it's purpose. It's a great middle of the road hotel for those wanting this experience, but may not able to spend Island House money. For me, it was perfectly fine. I would stay here again and would recommend it to a friend. The hotel was clean, and I mean, I saw them scrubbing rooms as I walked by which truly made me happy. Took a large group here for my birthday (2/24-2/28) and I was so impressed with the staff and atmosphere. We were a rowdy bunch, and the entire staff were friendly and attentive for the entirety of our stay. Tim, the bartender, was so fun and our entire group raved about him the whole weekend. He memorized all of our drinks and made sure we were always having fun. Our rooms were always cleaned the moment we left in the morning, and we loved the accommodations. The whole staff is really top notch! The environment is laid back and non-judgmental, and it's a place you can really just relax and be yourself and have a blast. We'll absolutely be back. This was our first time in Key West. Glad we picked this hotel. Staff was very friendly and made great recommendations while in KW. The happy hour at the back poolside bar was great! Met quite a few people there and at the pool while there. Not to mention, it is a great location. Walking distance to a beach, the bars/drag shows, shopping and other touristy things. As an added bonus, the breakfast on the upstairs patio overlooking Duval Street was great! Saw other people comment on the club noise. Yes, you can hear it but we didn't mind as we were in the club for the most part anyway. Tip: if you're driving, be sure to call them about the parking. Parking is scarce and can be expensive. But the hotel has the hook up with a parking lot next to them. But beware, if you move your car, it fills up by around noon. We left our car parked all weekend. This is my second, and last, visit to this hotel. The facility as a whole is in desperate need of renovation and general upkeep. The pool area is cobblestone brick that is filthy and littered with cigarette butts and broken plastic cocktail glasses. The rooms were worn and needed paint and cleaning on the woodwork. The wooden plantation shutters in my tiny room were so broken they would not close properly. The bar tending staff were rude and mean to deal with as a whole, however the front desk personnel were delightful. Housekeeping practices were fair, but the hotel was understaffed according to manager. read more

The pool area is nice. It is cool to have a place to hang by a pool and chill and not have to pay to get in. -it is all male but I really don't care actually if it was a mixed hangout. Our stay at New Orleans House was not what we expected. For the price of the room, I expected something more luxurious, but what we got was anything but. We stayed in a poolside room. The website stated that it was steps away from the pool and hot tub, which it was. What the website did not say was that the pool and hot tub area is not private and is open to the public. So our room essentially opened into a public space with no security whatsoever. Definitely will not be staying here again. read more

I booked a room this afternoon hoping to stay overnight. I got a message from booking.com saying I didn't have to pay until I got to the property. I got a call from their front desk who is unbelievably rude. I don't know who is working at 5:45 p.m. yesterday but they were unbelievably rude. You called me and asked me what time I was going to check in I told him about an hour. I get a call back from him in 20 minutes telling me that my credit card that I had used to reserve the booking (again no charges placed on it) and told me if I didn't give him a credit card right then and there he'd cancel my booking. I told him I was driving on the freeway and that I was going to arrive in 20 minutes and to wait until then. It's crazy how rude he was and I would never step foot in this we establishment. read more

We made a reservation based on the website on allowing a dog in the cottage. Also no where did it state that the dog must be a service dog. Have stayed at numerous places with my dog a small miniature schnauzer and had no issues with their pet rules when they allow it. At no time when we were making the reservations were we told no small dog was not allowed. when we got the confirmation it stated no dogs allowed . After speaking to the management which were very rude and obnoxious they cancelled the reservation. The website is very misleading and can be construed as bait and switch I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. My boyfriend and I stayed here for two out of the four nights we spent in Key West. From the moment of check-in to when we left the island (we came back almost every night even after checkout), we experienced outstanding customer service by people who genuinely cared about showing us a good time. We stayed in Room 12, which was roomier than we expect. The picture on the website is an accurate representation. The bathroom is big and in excellent condition. We definitely appreciated the kitchen-style sink, coffee maker, and most importantly - the refrigerator. To our delight, our room was turned over the next day with the bed remade and fresh towels. Room 12 is literally steps away from the hot-tub and pool-side bar, so expect to party. That all being said, you must understand what you are getting yourself into when staying at the New Orleans House. First of all, the rooms are literally surrounding a very busy, popular club and bar that closes at 4:00 AM and opens back up in a few hours. Secondly, it's a men-only GAY resort which includes nudity of all shapes, shades, and sizes. Third, the breakfast, while offered graciously and warmly by the host, is not a gourmet meal and is not meant to be. Finally, the price is exceptionally affordable compared to similar options in Key West. It's no Island House but is downtown on Duval, has a friendly staff, and is fairly well-priced. We stayed in Room 12, which opens up to the pool/bar area and is separated from the main nightclub area so it was very quiet compared to other rooms. I recommend getting Room 12 if you can. The staff was friendly from check-in to check-out ... it is fairly cruisey at times ... but not overly pushy ... the pool area is clothing optional however emphasis on the optional part since most people had bathing suits on (thankfully) ... those who went nude were over 50 and not attractive to look at ... but that is common in these sort of places. The PRO is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION ... we stayed at Island House which is far from Duval and the main attractions/clubs and never went out ... now the CON is that this is NOT an Island House ... it may be a guesthouse but don't think you will find amenities, cute guys, or service like you find at Island House. If you are going to Key West to go out to the clubs and sightsee ... stay here ... if you are going to Key West to relax, cruise, and do the whole gay-bathhouse thing, stay at Island House. read more

I recently stayed here in March for a coworkers destination wedding. The hotel is kind of over priced for what it actually offer but i understood it was peak season in late march so I had to settle. The bartender was kind of rude to me and my boyfriend. I understand the pool area is males only, so if you have a female friend that wants to come back to the room for drinks or to use the clean bathroom instead of the dirty club ones,forget about it. Although I have never stayed at the hotel here I go to the pool bar EVERY TIME I'm in key west. I love the atmosphere! There is great music and the BEST drink specials on the island. I am a native Floridian so any place that let's me be me - even in the nude and have a beer while soaking up the rays gets an A in my book. This is my favorite place to go in key west. In January the place we usually stay was booked and we were lucky because we stayed here instead and loved it. Everyone was warm and welcoming from making a reservation with Steven, checking in, bartenders (Ryan, Rhett and Dane) at the pool bar, and the men who clean the rooms. We found very little attitude from the staff and guests. We enjoyed the company of the other guests. The resort is perfectly located for nightlife and restaurants. They have a $10/day deal for parking. We will be back. read more

Stayed there over Christmas. Good clean room with a very nice shower. This is at the epicenter of key west, location is everything. Spent a total of 18 days in key West at the new Orleans House in 2015 in 4 visits including one full week. I kept going back because of the location and the amenities that this hotel provides. Love the staff and their attentiveness. Lots of locals in the tiki bar each day and lots of tourists moving though. This is a place where you can feel comfortable in your gayness. Drag queen karaoke in the Bourbon Street bar was a lot of fun in the evening. Once you get out on Duval you can go in any direction and enjoy the city. If you are looking for a perfectly decorated room and only the finest soaps and shampoos in the shower you should go somewhere else. The bed is just wonderful to sleep on, the linens are of good quality, and everything is clean. I think the price for this room as compared to the others in town is very reasonable. Choose the room carefully since there are some above the bar that are noisy at night as they state on their site. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the New Orleans House during Key West pride weekend, June 12th - June 15th. Overall I would describe our stay as "adequate". The New Orleans House isn't the greatest place but it isn't bad either. Pros: - Location: Located right off Duval Street. You're steps away from the bars, restaurants and the shops on Duval Street. - Staff: Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. - Room: Adequate rooms. Nothing special but clean and comfortable. Since most of our days were spent out and about, the room was just enough. Con: - Noise: This was our #1 issue that really made our stay a bit unpleasant. The New Orlean House and the Bourbon Street Pub (the bar) share the complex. The music from the inside and outside bars were just too much. When we went to bed, we had to try to sleep with the music and bar noise until 4 AM. Few nights we kept waking up as the music was disturbing. - Facility: While the New Orleans house had pool area and a gym, I would say they are poorly maintained. The pool didn't appear it goes through daily cleaning as we saw leaves in the pool and hot tub. The gym is very dated and the machines are littered with rust. I couldn't even use the treadmill as I kept tripping whenever I increased the speed. One other sour point is that the pool area is clothing optional and signs are posted that it's men only yet women kept coming over and hanging out. I wish the staff enforced that rule as other visitors were clearly annoyed and/or uncomfortable. Would we stay there again? Probably. With the New Orleans House, you really get what you pay for. It's no "Island House", the other gay resort in Key West, but if you're planning to keep busy by being out and about New Orleans House will do. read more

For what this place is, it is fantastic. This is first and foremost a nightclub and bar with an affordable comfortable guesthouse included. It will be noisy, and it is not the Ritz Carlton. The guesthouse rooms surround the clothing optional pool, hot tub, pool bar and sun decks. The bar serves well made strong cocktails, and has a fair selection of beers on tap and in cans. To the reviewer who criticized their use of Dixie cups, please imagine getting a shard of sharp broken glass in your foot. This is a bar that serves drinks next to a pool. Serving them in glass would be dangerous and irresponsible. There is a relaxed non judgmental casual atmosphere which I as a married bear personally prefer to the cruise-y body shaming atmosphere I have experienced at other gay guesthouses on the island. The free breakfast food in the morning is not going to win the James Beard award, nor will the snack food offered by the pool bar area, but it is what it is. If you expect a five star resort try staying at one, and I hope you enjoy paying 2 or 3 times per night what you would spend here. You are literally a few blocks walk from any of the numerous shops, restaurants, nightlife and other attractions on Duval street. If that's what you want, this is your place. read more

I had the pleasure of staying 5 nights at the New Orleans House to celebrate a milestone birthday. 10 friends joined me from San Francisco to enjoy Key West for their first time. The New Orleans House proved to be a wonderful base for their introduction to this amazing and special place. Our group had rooms in all areas of the resort. Initially I was concerned that the New Orleans House was not the same caliber of property as the guest house I had frequented for many years in the past (it closed). Fortunately my fears were not founded and I am pleased to recommend this property as a great place to enjoy a Key West vacation. If you're a guest that is super sensitive to sound or someone that wants a lush tropical oasis with GQ types in all corners of the property.... Perhaps this resort is not for you. If you appreciate a very well maintained property with every amenity (and then some) provided by a genuine and caring hospitality staff then this Guest House is for you! The photos of the rooms do not do them justice... they are in my opinion much nicer. Good quality beds, tiled floors and updated baths. Flat screen TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, hair dryer, iron, bath products both bulk and individual. The rooms are stocked daily with snacks and drinks for your convenience; I was most impressed that most of these items were $1.50 to $2.50 rather than most properties at the $6 plus range. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The Manager and his staff are very professional and accommodating. This resort surrounds the very popular Bourbon Street Pub which is party central along with the 801 group of bars across the street. The rooms are located on top and behind the bar. The rear of the property is an outdoor garden bar frequented by many locals, a pool, spa, stage area and beach area. The area features an awesome water feature and tropical landscaping. There are multiple sun decks and plenty of opportunity for quiet relaxation on the property. With both bars open until 4a... and this property is popular with the locals... there is plenty of eye candy and/or opportunity to meet quality individuals. As a hotel guest, you get a pass that allows you access to several bars free of coverage charge during your stay as well as complimentary happy hour from 5p to 630p. This amenity was lovely and quite a surprise. I started my days with coffee in the hot tub, continental breakfast (as good as continental breakfast gets..bagels, breakfast sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, pastries, coffee and various juices...) on the upper deck with local newspapers... then a day by the pool... lunch from hazels which is a food hut on the property that offers amazingly good fare (Hazel is a hoot!) then quiet time by the pool with a good book, a nap then happy hour making new friends. The evenings brought local talent (singers, dancers, etc...) as well as more opportunities to make friends. By the end of the night... sleep came easily for all of my friends.... Only one used the ear plugs he brought! Bottom line... this property at its current price point is a tremendous value that provides amble opportunity for quality relaxation and enjoyment. read more

Strengths lie in the customer service and the convenient location .....Weaknesses are with a few different things. As far as the room is concerned (Room 24), my biggest gripe was having to climb the odd ship staircase that was steep and led to the second level of the loft. I was always worried I was going to fall and hurt myself. They should consider replacing it with a spiral staircase instead. Once you get to the second level watch your head because the ceiling is slanted and low. The decor is very outdated and could use a makeover. The thump, thump, thump of the music from the club below can be a nuisance if you decide to call it a night early. Then again...it is Duvall Street so you should expect to hear nighttime rowdiness late into the night. Maybe it's because I'm from Miami, but the gay night life on Duval Street pretty much blows. If it's not drag queen shows, its bars filled with middle aged guys lusting after twink go-go boys, or bars filled with middle-aged home-towners. As a tourist I'd like to drink and dance and not be surrounded by a bunch of middle aged pervy guys while outdated music plays in the background. Seems like there's nothing at all for those under 40 wanting to feel young, instead you're reminded of what your future may become in 10-15 years. The continental breakfast is what it is, but if you're looking for a livelier menu you're not far from other options. Besides that it is functional and has all the necessary amenities needed for a stay as long as you're not picky. Would I visit this hotel again? Only if I had no other choice, but probably not. read more
