I've waited over a month to post this review in hopes my hair would heal but it has not. I went here on September 18th. I called ahead of time to make my appointment and confirm what I wanted done was possible. They scheduled me for that afternoon. I have not had my hair done in over 4 years so I basically had a fresh canvas. I asked for calico hair color style with a loose perm. I walked out of there with orange, yellow & purple hair. The perm completely fried my hair to the point where it's not falling out in BUNCHES. I had to buy 6 wigs to wear for the next year because my hair is so damaged. Not only did they not offer a refund but they gaslight me the entire time when she finished trying to act like it looked good. Girl, I did not asked for orange and purple streaks in my hair. Think twice before getting your hair done here. I am going to attach photos of what I asked for, I also showed her photos of what I did NOT want & what my hair looked like before this botch job & after...

Heidi and Myrna are the greatest!

Heidi and Myrna are exceptional!! My 6 year old daughter and I came in for pedicures and they stayed late to accommodate us! They were kind and talkative and even gave my daughter a flower. Price is right, service is priceless!

I have Dawn for hair and waxing (never thought I'd be doing that) and Myrna for pedicure and nails.

I brought a large group with me last weekend and they all said that their massages here were better than any others they've received before. I got a back, neck, and shoulder massage with Cody and he did a wonderful job. Before my massage he told me everything that I could expect during the massage (e.g., how he would pull lightly on my ankles because that effects the back). He was very communicative about everything and it made me feel very safe! The massage bed was also heated (which I have not experienced before at any other spa) and the head rest was very soft and comfortable. Towards the end of the massage, he used a peppermint balm on my neck and back called yoga balm. The coolness from the balm lingered for a while after my service and helped me stay relaxed while I went to the other rooms in the spa. The steam room: it was my first time using a steam room so I don't have anything to compare it to. But, it was a very large room where at least 8 people could fit comfortably. It was very warm in this room, so the ice cold towels right outside the room were a good touch. The sauna: I've avoided saunas my whole life because the first time I ever tried one it was very small and claustrophobic. I wanted to get the full experience at the spa this time, so I gave it a try. This sauna was quite large and did not feel claustrophobic. Overall: Everyone was so professional and kind. Kathleen and Kimberly helped us check out at the end and they were lovely. My only wishes were that they had more jacuzzis and that they had a mud mask/bath experience.

I actually didn't pack my makeup bag because I wasn't sure if it would be crowded/easy to get ready in the space. I definitely should have - the cute chairs and mirrors would be so perfect for me to set up shop. The facilities were so clean and comfortable. Only a few other ladies were using the facilities at the same time and anytime I changed I was the only one in the room. I was so comfortable and had an amazing massage. My husband and I took our friend for the first time to get a massage and his whole world was changed. I'm so glad this is the one we took him to because this is definitely a good impression. He and my husband loved the steam room. They stayed there the whole time. I enjoyed the dry sauna and was just ecstatic about the roomy showers. There is a frosted glass door and a nice area to derobe/get dressed without getting everything wet. Afterwards we chatted about our massage experience and while our friend and I loved our massages, my husband had a lot of modifications on the way his massage bed was set up (height/pillow location) and he had some requests on areas of work on his back that he felt could've been handled a bit better. Tho overall we all loved it and had a great time. The price is very good compared to similar resorts. I would love it if I didn't have to walk across a smoky casino to get there but it may just have to be worth it for this place.

Rancho La Puerta is a place and an experience you didn't know you need in your life. Once there,…read moreyou realize how vital this place is to your well-being. As of 2025, this was my 3rd retreat to RLP and it won't be my last. I plan on making this an annual trip. It's hard to put into words how great it feels to be here, and even harder to show how beautiful it is because the photos never do it justice. Pros: - The food. It's delicious and makes you feel good from the inside out. Dining happens in the dining hall which is this beautiful building where meals are treated as more than nourishment for your body, but for your soul as well. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style. You can sit outside with beautiful views of Mt. Kuchumaa or sit indoors. There are small tables and large tables to sit with new and old friends. Dinner is served table side. Each meal is crafted with care using a delicous, fresh variety of foods that include whatever is growing in their gardens (more on the gardens later). - The property. The entire property is rustic but cared for and loved. The grounds and gardens are meticulously maintained. - Mt Kuchumaa. My absolute favorite part of RLP are the morning (sunrise) hikes. Many different levels of hiking and no experience required. My favorite hike is Coyote and the Breakfast Hike. - No wifi or televisions. It's a great way to unwind. - The classes; fitness, art, speakers....there is so much to learn. - The rooms are rustic and clean. You have all the amenities you need. - Spend time relaxing at one of the amazing pools and spas. - Shuttle service from San Diego is great. They are also wonderful if you need to arrive or depart in an off-day. - I always felt safe and cared for Cons: (this list could be kinda short) - Sometimes it's confusing to navigate the property. Especially if it's your first time. Also, if you have mobility issues, you will want to keep that in mind as there is a lot of walking to do to get from place to place....BUT, with that said, I saw a lot of people with less mobility than myself getting around just fine. :) They may not be on sunrise hikes, but they were in all the classes, concerts and dinners. - Highway Noise. Unfortunately, you can hear the highway from the ranch, which is so strange because it feels like a different world...but yes, it's close to the major highway and you will hear semi truck air brakes quite often. Some casitas are closer than others. This is my must-do list: - Hiking Mt Kuchumaa. They have several options every morning. - Gourmet Breakfast Hike - Cooking class - Spa (getting a treatment or just spending a few hours relaxing in the women's only spa pool/hot tub) - Sound bath sessions - Instructor-led classes - so much variety! Pro-tip suggestions: - Don't go hungry...need more protein and avocados for breakfast or lunch? Just ask, they will bring it to you from the kitchen. - Don't go hungry....order a meal and a half at dinner or get half of each entree. - Don't over-schedule yourself, but DO make sure you look at everything that's offered all week. - This is not the Marriott or Ritz. It is a rustic, wonderful health resort that reflects the vibe they are going for. - Be open and relax. - Sign up right away for classes that fill up like the Organic Breakfast hike and things that cost more like the Cooking Class. - Review your folder and take a couple of hours to acquaint yourself with how things work, the classes and grounds.

I paid plus some tip for her time, which is always optional by the way. My masseuse then confronted me and started to argue with me about the tip I gave her, and pointed to their print out of tip recommendations, and asked me if I could read. She went on about how if she worked in a restaurant, a generous tip would've been standard. I had to her remind her that zero dollars was also an option and in some restaurants, I have been asked to skip tipping entirely and they were still gracious about service bc they genuinely love what they do. I have never been spoken to this way in my entire life, including spas in hotels and in resorts. It was obnoxious. I am glad that I saw how you reacted to little bc now I won't give you more. If you had approached me about it differently, it could've ended differently but you chose this path. Never coming back.
