Scheduling the class series is easy, but it's trying to schedule the 5 drives, then final drive exam that is a challenge. Website for both Puyallup and Graham would fill up in minutes, and same for attempts to call to book. The biggest challenges are demand (they literally need 2 more locations in East Pierce), not enough instructors, combined with allowing instructors to provide availability one week at a time instead of a set work schedule. So drives fill up FAST and can't be booked in advance. It often took 2-3 phone calls - per drive - to try to find an open drive time between both Puyallup and Graham. For very busy teens and organized Moms this process was exhausting. Far better to offer a package, even for a fee, where the drives are a pre-booked date & time, like every other Saturday at 9am (example) and *booked in advance.* The school's priority is ensuring students know how to drive safely and practice between drives. Parents want that too. But they truly need to either add locations or find a way to allow advance booking for drives. Hoping this review helps encourage growth and operational improvements.

You'll get experiences on the road for city drives and some highway drives so you can get a comfortable feel for the vehicles. All of this and personal study, really helps on the day of the practical exam for the state. I really enjoyed my experiences with this team and I would recommend them to anyone interested.

They provide no useful service- your grandpa is better qualified than the untrained so called instructor sitting next to you, who is just the average joe that has tried to drive a manual at least once in thier life. Who makes them no more qualified than my 14 year old little sister who knows how to drive but doesnt have her drivers license, but could talk you through it better than these characters. Its not rocket science and before automatic cars people drove manual cars, everywhere and learned by themselves!! because they PRACTICED!! They didnt pay people to watch them practice or ride with them to practice...Anything takes practice, so ask a friend to ride along -go to an empty lot or country road or even a cemetary (has hills) and practice!!! push in clutch start/stop/shift gears - let out clutch - go! Kill it? repeat previous steps! Dont pay some bogus scam business some astronomical price for something they dont even provide! These are not trained instructors but actors playing the part!! DONT GET SCAMMED or tricked out of your hard earned money!! If you are lonely find a companion preferrably the kind that does not charge you for their time. Learning is a process dont be afraid of it! Quiters never win!!

I was very pleased with this service! I bought my own stick shift (manual Kia Soul) about two…read moremonths ago and started learning to drive it on my own.... Then, I burned the clutch trying to go uphill (more than once - resulting in a need for a new clutch) and felt extremely discouraged. I was very nervous to get behind the wheel again, thinking I may cause further damage to my car. I was referred to Stick Shift Driving Academy from a family member, and it was just what I needed. After speaking with JC at customer service about my availability, I was matched with Amber, a driving instructor in my area. Amber called me and we set up a place to meet and practice that was close and convenient for me (along a bus line). Stick Shift Driving Academy hosts many driving instructors throughout the U.S. and you are matched with one in your area based on your needs. In my case, I was very happy to learn from another woman! Amber was very patient and understanding. We used her car to practice, so I felt comfortable trying new things and was not worried about burning the clutch on my older vehicle. She also helped me understand what could have gone wrong for me to burn my clutch, and I haven't had that "burning rubber smell" since! I drove with Amber for four hours (the High Power Vehicle Package). I will say - I think the packages should really just be thought of as "how long do you want to drive for?"- I don't think the packages really relate to different "levels."- The instruction is flexible and based off of the customer's needs. In my case, I really needed to focus on hills, so that's what we did. We found an empty parking lot with some hills, and did that until I felt comfortable. Additionally, I learned downshifting, reversing, feathering (a technique new to me, and soooo helpful!), and of course shifting to 1st gear. Overall, I highly recommend Stick Shift Driving Academy and Amber. My confidence in driving my own vehicle is way up, and I'm conquering hills in the Seattle area with more ease!

I am currently  At the school in Kent upgrading my class B to class A. I am having issues with a…read morecouple different subjects that I need to address.  I have driven class B passenger 45 ft coaches for 3 years in Alaska and instructed for 1 winter for a very popular tourism company. The pre trip inspection with Hamad went well. He is a good instructor that cares. he is the only reason why this place gets 1 star and not 0! The secretary Doinia and the other girl seem nice. The backing coach I have a hard time understanding and he is always angry and yells at students frequently. He spends 95% of his time on the phone. The course is too small, filled with potholes, uneven,  and cones not set up properly with no measurements at all.  Half the vehicles have mechanical issues like air leaks.  I bring these issues up and they dismiss it and then that vehicle breaks down a few days later and they find out that it was the problem that I stated earlier. The syllabus isn't followed, after in cab, you're supposed to be able to back. That's not followed. On my sign in, I'm supposed to do city as well as backing. That's not followed. I bring all these issues up, I'm ignored and they pretend to be busy and hide in the office.  Signing up for backing is first come first serve every morning which is terrible for those who show up later. I'm promised two 30 minute sessions and I never get that not even once.  I can't even city drive even though they are separate skills and with my 2 week class schedule,  I will never get that completed.  Today I was approved to go city driving because of my past experience and the fact that I am not able to get the lessons I paid for in the time that day set me up for which is 2 weeks. But then the worst thing you can ever imagine happened That stops all instruction: ITS RAINING, IN SEATTLE! Everyone has to stop driving and there is no one backing because it's raining. So what does the management go do? They go into the mechanic shop and start making a huge meal with chicken and lots of other Russian delicacies Because they think it's too dangerous to drive-in the rain. I feel like I am not set up for success at your Kent school and I hope to be heard.  If you are looking for a school to get your CDL, Avoid the Kent school at all costs. Justin Fox
