The environment is so pleasant, clean and opened to day light. The workers are friendly and are open for conversations. I asked for a grey ombré which is pretty hard for dark Asian hair. I only had to bleach my hair once and the color transferred perfectly. If you ever need a hair stylist ask for Iris, she may be an amateur but she does an amazing job mixing colors. Thanks to yelpers I did a search for hair salons around my way and found this gem with great reviews and pictures of the hair color/style I wanted. I also found Jonathan's Instagram page and literally liked all of his pictures because the work he does is amazing! I finally had the balls to msg him and get a consultation in person. This guy tells the truth and nothing but the truth! I wanted platinum hair color but he said i won't be able to get it done the first time because my dark dark hair needs to be bleached several times so we opted for ash blonde. He told me the price and that it was a package. He gave me his cell # and always contacted each other through texts. He's so awesome. He answers right away if he has a chance and understood exactly what needed to be done from what I wanted and from if it's possible without damaging my hair so much. I finally came in on Saturday morning as his first appt and he broke down the hours and details of what he is going to do to my hair. It was a long process that was well worth it because I have thick dark Asian hair. Thanks to his assistant Iris as well for helping! She's so nice and awesome. Why aren't there any reviews on the men's haircuts??? Well, I decided to go 3x before writing a review. I've gotten haircuts from the younger Andy and the older Andy, and both were great. The men's haircut is $28 (before tip) and includes wash + cut + rinse + style. This place is located on the 2nd floor, so from the street you'll need to look up to find it. The salon interior is nice and clean. As for the haircut, they listened to what I wanted (I brought a pic) and also gave me opinions on what works for my head shape and hair texture. (And Andy did try to sell me on the $128 perm, which I politely declined.) I'm very satisfied with the result, and really appreciate some of Andy's opinions about certain areas to leave more length. Among all the Flushing haircut places, there's a lot of variation on price and cost (not always correlated). New Square gave me a more-than-satisfactory haircut at a decent price. I didn't have an appointment this time, but I'm planning to make my mom an appointment with Andy soon. read more

They do an ok job with long hair and charge $30-40. Their work is inconsistent even when it's with the same person. Not a huge difference between them and a cheap $10-20 place except they are more meticulous and the place is more well lit and comfortable. Nonetheless my bf and I have been going here for 2 years. I decided to be a bit adventurous this time and try for a chin length bob with straight bangs instead of always doing a layered haircut. I came in with long below shoulder length and came out with a mess. What I requested is a very safe haircut, in fact the picture I provided was one of myself. From the first snip I knew he went too short and he kept adjusting in the back and it only got shorter and shorter. Unlucky for me, my hair also shrinks when it dries and waves a bit. He learned from this when he blew out the bangs before cutting. Still messed up though because too much hair was allocated to the bangs. So now it looks like a straight blunt front bangs. I can honestly say this is the worst haircut/style I've ever had. They charged me $38 before tip and this is more than normal. I did not say anything and tipped the usual, but it was not unnoticed. You know a haircut is bad when the appointment booking lady attempts to compliment you. I've also gotten keratin tx from them and it ran up to $300 for shorter side of mid length hair (shoulder length) and they had the hair washing lady (apprentice) do the tx instead of who I booked. Very much in love with my hair! I kept going back and forth, back and forth about coloring it so light. But I said, hey why not... Jonathan is truly a talented hair God. He takes his time with you, and if you're patient enough, you will have fabulous results! He told me about 7 hours but I actually left after 8.5. Best service I've ever received at a hair salon. I came here after a friend had gotten her hair done and it looked promising so I decided to give this place a try. She had her hair done by Jonathan so I naturally went to him. Everyone at the salon was very welcoming and attentive, I was never left alone for more than 15 mins they'll always come back to check up on my hair or ask if I'm comfortable. Andy reviewed the photos of the color I wanted and gave me advice on how we can adjust it so it's better suited for me, he used bleach on low volumes to save the integrity on my hair even though the process took longer. SOO I never write reviews but I just had to for this salon! I've never walked out as satisfied as I did today after a dye job. Jonathan is seriously the best stylist I ever met! He was very professional and definitely knew what he was doing. He helped me pick what I wanted and I got exactly that! He was also very honest while doing so. Even after the salon was closed, Jonathan and his assistant stayed and took their time on my hair so it would be perfect! The salon itself is clean, big and everyone there were extremely friendly. There was no language barrier since they can speak Chinese and English fluently. I was offered water and food since I was there for quite some time. I came here thinking I'd undergo experiences all the reviewers raved about, and was under the impression that even though I couldn't speak Chinese, that wouldn't be a problem. Well, when it was made abundantly clear I couldn't speak Mandarin that well, the receptionist paired me with a stylist who couldn't speak any English at all... but I showed him a picture of what I wanted (light brown balayage on a dark brown base) and he understood what I wanted (with the receptionist translating and then leaving after). But I guess he was really busy, so he left my dye job in the hands of an inexperienced assistant who completely butchered my hair. She proceeded to bleach the ends of my hair, with the end result a very straight, blocky ash blonde "ombre". What annoys me most after the main stylist hardly tended to my hair and left a noob to work on it, was that after she dyed it, he cut my hair (I wanted a medium length bob) and only then remarked if I liked it knowing damn well it looked nothing like I showed him or told him. He tried to fix it but to no avail (spent more than six hours there, and passed closing). It annoys me because during the whole time he came up to check on the assistant's work, he never once bothered to correct her, but spent the whole time complaining to another stylist about the assistant and how she didn't listen to him. I wish I knew their names, and should've asked -_- If you know you're busy with other clients, I'd hope you wouldn't take on another and then ultimately leave the job to someone inexperienced, but that's exactly what happened. Extremely unpleased since I spent more than $300, and left a hefty tip cos I felt bad he spent so long, only to have something I really wasn't happy with (only realized this when I got home and upon further inspection that not much changed). Tried to fix myself but only got so far, so will probably have to go to another salon and shell out more $$$. Sigh read more

You definitely get more then just a simple haircut here. The stylists put a lot of time and effort into making sure you walk out of that salon with a fresh cut. The highlight for me is when they wash your hair and they give you a head massage at the same time. Like holy crap let me just lay here for the rest of the day and just sleep. But anyway the whole experience is very enjoyable. I recommend Barry to everybody, he's a great stylist and a very nice person. I had a grey ombre done in Hong Kong a while ago and it was totally messed up because the first person didn't know how to bleach it right and the grey ombre came out a little too dark. Eventually it faded and the messed up bleached part began to show. Since only the bottom half was bleached, there was an obvious line of bleached hair on the bottom and non-bleached hair on top. Upon coming back to the state, I've been wanting to fix but didn't know who to go to. Then I found Jonathan at New Square. And he was God! If anyone have the slightest knowledge about hair coloring, they would tell you that my hair was unfixable. But Jonathan did it! Although it took a little longer than expected, but that's mainly because my hair was really messed up, Jonathan blended in the bleached line and did a beautiful grey ombre. I was amazed by his patience and attention to details. I feel like that every person's hair that he does is a master piece for him, and that's very important because he will make it prefect. I wasn't exactly satisfied with the overall experience. The salon accepted walk-ins and I asked how much would the haircut be and the reception lady told me that it's $40. On the website it said they charge 35-40. My hair is really short, bob, I would say. I only needed a little trim, still a bit puzzled why they charged me 40. So I said to myself fine, I will try. I thought my haircut can be better cut and layered. Btw, I had to re-wash my hair because it felt really itchy after the lady shampooed it. I came here for a perm with my girlfriends, since we are first time here, we do not know which hair stylist is good, so they assigned whoever is available. All the stylists they assigned to us are bad, with nasty attitude. After we finished, we do not look like we get anything done with our hair, seem like we just washed at home. Also they do not asked for your comments, they do whatever they want, i told my stylist not to cut my bang, and turn out he cut it very short. My hair is curly, thick, had premature gray hairs and was treated with black blue dye before this trip and I thought he did an incredible job. This place is a hidden gem to me. I was just looking through yelp and then I found this salon. I looked through the photos and was mesmerized with how nice the coloring is done especially by Jonathan! I love all of his work and naturally found my way to contact him. I was nervous the first time i went to him for a haircut because for as long as I could remember I always went to the salon where my best friends mom worked. She always cut and colored my hair for me but unfortunately she moved to long island which is not accessible for me so I decided to research around flushing for a new salon. I went on yelp and started my research, looking at reviews and photos. Then Jonathan's hair coloring photos caught my eye. Since I only wanted to cut my hair this time I just wanted to go in and see how the environment was and then I'd decide if i would color my hair here next time. I called in and asked for an appointment with Jonathan and I was able to go in the day of. Btw he only works weekends. Jonathan was supper awesome and nice. I guess as a professional hair dresser its good to make small talk with your clients, so I really enjoyed that. I told him i just wanted a cut this time but I'll definite be back for a color. And he was happy to hear I'd come back and was showing me all the different colorings he has done. After I left the salon, i told my friend that i had an amazing experience and then she decided to dye her hair here with Jonathan as well the same day! So i went with her and stayed the whole day. After my friends amazing hair coloring I decided i couldn't went any longer, so the next week i went in to coloring. I wanted blonde and it took the whole day because of the stripping of color. Got gray hombre done and I will say it is definitely one of the most interesting hair I've ever had. Jonathan was the stylist and he was very nice and kind about explaining thoroughly what would work and not (I actually wanted rose gold at first but was told it will fade out in 3 washes so was advised against it). I was going to give it 4 star review as the entire process took 9 hours... yes that's not a type... I got in the salon at 11 and got out at 8... but the after care instruction and care given by Jonathan is definitely beyond 5 stars. I'd say make sure to take some pictures of what u want, call ahead, and really take something to keep u entertained as u may sit there for awhile. But u will not be disappointed! read more

Spending $200 on curly hair can be exciting in some way cuz I can see a new me. But spending $200 on the curly hair that stayed only overnight sounds a little crazy. They asked for 18%~20% tips, which I didn't argue. I paid extra 40 bucks cuz the service was not bad. But the quality... this is the third day since the curly hair was done, and it became straight almost right away. So here's the whole story. I kept the first paragraph because it was my previous review. After the first time visit, I called the store explaining to them that my curly hair wasn't curly at all. So they asked me to go back and fixed it for me. Remember the first I went there, they told me the Japanese perm was the best one, which makes the hair look naturally curly and it costs $200, but the cold perm might hurt the hair a little and it's cheaper. Obviously, you wanna do the better one, and I did. A week later when I got there, they told me that I have to do the cold perm because of my hair quality isn't suitable for the Japanese one. I was like: hmm, but you didn't say the same thing last time. Anyway, I did it. And they didn't ask me for extra charge. They promised me that this time, the curly hair will at least remain for 3 months. I trusted them and still I paid them tips, a good mount that matches the perm price. However, the second day, it went back to straight again. Seriously? My hair suffered perm twice and still not working? Later, I got a message from the store, saying that his name is Jacky and he feels sorry for my hair. He is the manager and he can fix my hair without charge (I have the screenshot I will see if I can upload the picture with this review). After two times of disappointing visit, I didn't wanna go, but as he is the manager, I think I should go and visit and let him see my hair because I still have hope on making it curly. So I made a reservation and went. I met him on Friday, and he told me that I have to fix the quality of my hair first, so he told me I should get the Brazilian blowout and take care of my hair first. I agreed that after two times of perm, my hair gets a little frizzy so I should take care of it, so I did it. At the same time, I did scalp treatment. In the end, he wanted to charge me for $280. Really? You said you are going to fix it without charge. And the point is, you made my hair straight! I originally want curly hair and even if i need treatment, they shouldn't charge me that much because they messed it up before. And he broke his promise. It is true that they are nice people and they have good service. But they couldn't break their promise and still didn't fix my hair. If a store wants to survive in this competitive city, it should at least provide trustworthy service and quality. I ended up paying $290 including tips to them, but I'm not happy about it. If they kept their promise, fixed my hair without charge, I probably would have paid them a good amount of tips. Now, forget it. Should I trust them again? No. Should I visit that store again?
