I've been consigning and shopping here since I moved to Oregon in 1995. It's so much fun to get a good deal and at the same time get rid of clothes you no longer want - and make a few bucks. I was sorry to see the old management go and learn they had fired all personnel, but I also understand that they had a different business plan, and sometimes this sort of thing is needed to make a fresh start with new policies. I've mostly been happy when consigning although sometimes the low price they place on a Pendleton or Clarks item I've consigned blows my mind and I try not to get upset. I've mostly been pretty satisfied with the amount of items they accept from me to consign (I'd say they accept at least 80% of what I've brought in), but the last time, I brought in over 30 items, most new but without tags, and they didn't accept one single item! One has to consider their current stock and think maybe they already have something like you brought in, and they didn't take? But I was bummed as I am an old lady and had to schlepp my stuff to my car from my apartment and then into the store, and then the reverse. I'm sorry to hear of the many complaints about employee attitudes here. That has not been my experience in the least! I'm always asked if I need assistance and they scramble to help me find things that are going past their consign-by date (when they would ordinarily go on sale or get donated), when I want to rescue something from them that I've consigned. I DO like to shop the discounted items in each section and appreciate how they put them on the end of each section, so I can walk down the main aisle and peruse them. These items (priced according to the current % off color that hangs from the ceiling) used to be sprinkled throughout the store and not kept together in each section, so for us bargain shoppers, this is a fantastic way to shop! read more

You used to have bins to bring our clothes in. Now we need to carry them in on hangers in our arms. This is fine if you only have a few items, but if you have 40, very difficult. Come on owner, buck up and get an electric door! You try carrying 40 items on hangers through those doors! read more

I love a good bargain and this place has some treasures. I have found a lot of gently used garments that I receive a lot of compliments on. Most recently, I lucked out with a red peacoat. It was a fun way to add color to my wardrobe. I also found some great heels, never worn, with the price tag still on them. They've got shoes, jeans, purses, jewelry, and even some house items. There's even a section for men's clothing. This store is clean and well organized. I like that you earn points with purchases, I've earned a few $10 off coupons. This is a well-curated second hand store with a great selection of quality clothing, accessories and a limited supply of furniture and home decor. Prices are reasonable given the quality and presentation. There's always one color tag that's 50% off and seniors save 10% off on Tuesdays. There's plenty of parking in their lot. read more

Very upset. I took a large amount of clothing into them -some with tags and brand names. Later, I took more clothing in and took payment of $22 dollars @ that time. I sold another $50 and when I asked for payment they said I waited too long to get my payment-so it was gone! They stole $50 dollars from me! So I would recommend New to You for shopping. I found a super cute bag there for a reasonable price. I would not recommend it for selling new items. I brought several brand new dresses with tags on them - expensive dresses from good brands. They ended up selling for $10 a pop. I'm kind of in shock, as it was highly recommended to me that I sell my items there. If I had sold them on poshmark, I would have gotten at least $50 for each of those dresses. I knew that I wouldn't get as much as I would on Poshmark or ebay, but didn't realize I'd get quite that little. I also brought in brand new boots that cost over $100. I received less than $4. They also claimed they only received around 9 items from me, when I brought in over 20 items. This was all after I put everything on hangers and drove over an hour to get them there. Super bummed and sad. So yes, go there for some good deals. Just realize that your good fortune means someone else got ripped off. read more

I have enjoyed stopping in from time to time, and usually find something fun to buy. clothing is presented well and appears to always be in good to excellent condition. It's also useful to try on some of the clothing to get ideas for formal wear. I ordered a dress online retail after trying it on at New For You as I wanted it in a different color. Not a lot of shopping options here and I took a chance and came in here, very friendly staff that was able to help me find what I was looking for. All the things the reviews say about the staff are true. Not surprising that the Karen who lives in mcminnville and works at new to you is racist though. This place has a very distinct, putrid smell and everything is overpriced for gap clothing. They also rip you off and take your nice, name brand clothes and give you less than a bucks for it. Ugh. Why do I bother? Just when I think the service can't get any worse, it does. 4 people working, one cashier. 3 people waiting in excess of 10 minutes. The woman behind me in line asked ever so politely if the employee flipping thru racks, spacing hangers, could assist the lone cashier who had her hands full with two customers who decided the cashier was their new bff and told her their life stories. The hanger spacer said nope, can't do it. It's just heartwarming to know that hanger spacing is more important than assisting PAYING customers. Things are a bit upside down in this place. Another place to get stuff on the cheap? I'm in. Like all places that sell things on a discount you have to come back all the time. Sometimes you find something good, sometimes not. Today I went in to look at clothes but found a great mirror for my new apartment. I almost bought a pair of Coach shoes, but decided against it because I don't need them. Fairness on prices seems to fluctuate. I think this might be in part to who is pricing them. Some times they have designer items for cheap, which is what draws me in. read more

The area to consign takes a VERY long time. If you aren't wanting to shop while waiting or just leave your stuff, the only place to sit is near the restrooms. Slow service and disrespectful. They will have 6 people wandering around looking busy but make you wait 45 minutes to have your clothes reviewed for consignment. Also, they never take anything of mine if it doesn't have a new tag on it or if it isn't luxury named brand. What's the point? They also won't take Nike kid hoops shorts in the fall, claiming it's out of season. Clearly out of touch, considering kids play basketball in the winter season- hello. Lastly, they charge way too much for their used items. I can shop new for nearly the same price they charge for blouses and name brand heels. I only recommend this place as a last resort. read more

Great prices and good to shop at because of it - flip side of they also means it's not so great to consign with since you don't get much pay out. Although I've noticed that they price Levi's brand items higher, maybe they sell faster?? As an example I consigned a brand new never worn J-Crew long sleeve shirt, tags still on, and only made $2.55 on it so they sold a shirt for around $6 bucks with a $40 price tag on it - awesome deal if you're buying it! Great place to shop - not so great to consign if you want to make money on your items. They have a great selection and prices are usually cheap.It's simple and easy to consign with them and the app to track sales is nice but you're not going to make any money doing this. I really like that they also donate to local charities if the items don't sell or they don't want to take them. I'd probably consign more with them if they offered a better percentage of sales to in-store credit like Buffalo Exchange. read more

This place is my favorite store!! I didn't want to get the secret out there, because they will always be busy. Trust me, they are busy enough as it is. Large selection of new and pre-owned clothing and home decors. Many items still have store tags on them If you are lucky enough to find clothing with their color tagged discounts, you can get a real discount and find a steal! They are very selective on the clothing they take in for consignment and I'm always seeing people applying credit from clothing they have sold, so I know their system works. Wow, no one has reviewed this place? But it's in Newberg, right next to... um... oh screw it, I'll take this one. So, if you are on the way to the beach and you're thinking, "I'm low on cloths without holes", then this is the place for you. A fine selection of pre-owned clothing at prices that mean you can afford to leave these by the ocean in your drunken stupor back to the hotel. Also, you might just fine a really nice sweater that was clearly never worn. Or perhaps a pair of really outrageous sun glasses that make people look at you and slowly back away. read more

Their selection of clothes is pretty big. But, unless you appear to be very "upper class," prepare to get judgmental looks from the employees. I have visited this store maybe once every few years for nearly 20 years, and it is always the same. The employees look at me like I'm going to steal something , or like I'm not worthy of being in their store. The prices are pretty reasonable, nonetheless. However, don't try to consign anything here! They are so picky, it's ridiculous! I've known several people who have brought in brand new stuff, still with the tags, and they wouldn't accept it! I'm engaged and have been searching for a sample wedding dress in my size and budget. Suprisingly, this is difficult to do. Although I am a size 2-4, the name brand shops have an extremely limited selection, in most cases, nothing. Hearing about New To You from a family member, I was slightly reluctant to travel from SE Portland to the boutique in Mcminnville. I'm so happy that I did. Walking into the store, I was pleasantly greeted and shown to my size dresses. Shocked by the avalibility, i began pulling dresses I was excited to try when Stacy, a fantastic associate, came by to offer me the one bridal fitting room. The process was painless and not pushy in any way making it easy for me to love two dresses, not just one. My choice will need slight alterations, but with a price of less than $150, this is definately in the budget. They even offer bras, dress skirts, and veils! Looking online, the boutique shares their consignment policy for buying wedding dresses. They require 'Full dry cleaning services' to the wedding dresses and that they be no more than 4 years old. I was so impressed by this store. Having never been to this town, I wasn't sure what to expect but was very surprised by the selection here. I love this store! I love the new furniture line the store is now carrying as well as the consignment furniture (so many great finds!). They now have a van for deliveries, which made my couch purchase as easy as it gets. I found a few items that were cute, but very very overpriced for second hand. I realize it's consignment which tends to be a bit more expensive but the items they are selling are very very out dated. Maybe it's the clientele, maybe it's the workers, maybe it's just me. But everything was expensive and very ugly to me. I don't mind expensive when the items are trendy or in fashion or can be a staple piece... but I saw absolutely nothing currently in style. I know most items are several years/seasons old, but fashion tends to replay itself. So like, vintage is really in. But none of these items were good, real vintage. Lots of items I would find at goodwill for half the price. Which is bizarre to me. Consignment stores are supposed to have a niche or at least a certain style but this place takes everything and anything. I saw a pair of laredo leather boots, and they were cute, but about 15$ over what they could be resold for. I resell vintage for funnies, so I know how it can be. IF YOU ARE BUYING The prices are not rock-bottom Goodwill prices; instead I would consider them a bit pricier than your average run-of-the mill consignment shop. I found a quality shrug for $14.00 that most likely retailed for over $30.00. I also found a cute designer Nike hat and scarf for my step-daughter that was in new condition for $12.00. In today's economy, it is always great to find a quality piece of clothing for AT LEAST 50% below retail cost. The styles are current; the oldest stuff looks maybe season or two behind. However, they seriously need to clean through some of their inventory, not only to make it easier for potential buyers to comb through, but also to give their shop a cleaner look. WHAT"S FOR SALE? They also offer resale bridal (good selection here), shoes, childrens, ladies, men, plus sizes, maternity and a small area of active wear. They also have this strange section of odd and end household items like couches dining room tables, pictures, etc. A majority of this stuff is out-of date and more expensive then buying it off Craigslist. They also carry a decent selection of designer bags that appear to be authentic; Dooney & Burke, Coach, etc. They have them priced far below retail but still most of them will cost you over $100.00 a pop. IF YOU WANT TO CONSIGN The back of the store is where you open your account and drop your items. Don't waste time in line waiting behind customers at the front desk. New to You is not cash on the spot store (like Buffalo Exchange); instead, they take in your items and pay you as they sell them by cutting you a check each month. They give you 40% of the selling price. I have heard that many Linfield college students use this as a means to make extra $ while they are in school (which might account for the more up-to-date inventory). SUMMARY FOR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS This is a good place to come if you have some time to spend going through the multitude of racks because you a bound to find something you can't live without for under $20! MY TWO CENTS... A CONSULTANTS PERSPECTIVE My advice for the owners would be that it's time for a face lift. Your space seems dated and crowded, clean out your inventory significantly! While you might think that having so many items gives people many choices, it also makes it feel claustrophobic and a bit like work to your customers (see reviews below). Decide who you are. While you have variety items for sale, more is not necessarily better, it makes your space look hodge-podge, like Grandma's living room. Get rid of the household section and use the space more constructively. Paint, and get some ambiance with better lighting because your bright school house lights don't flatter your customers, or the store and its contents. Showcase your items creatively by updating you window displays and by adding some displays that give your customer's ideas of current fashions. And for God's sake get rid of the window painting, it makes your store look cheap and doesn't give passersby an accurate representation of the quality of your items. 1 - Prices are not that great! 2 - Consignment with them is a giant rip-off. They require everything to be perfect (without any flaw) and then they give you pennies on your items. Over 100 items netted me $17.35 -- really? They were worth much more. 3 - Staff, especially at the back corner are rude and unprofessional. Front counter staff are usually pretty good. 4 - Location is awful - hard to get into and hard to park. Building is very dated and layout is crowded. read more

I've been shopping here for many years but just started consigning about a year ago. Total paid to date is over $1300!!! I take all my friends and families hand me downs and make $ off them! If your looking for quick $, then this prob isn't gonna work for you. But with all items the average dollar amount I get is maybe $3.. so put that on hundreds of items and u will make $. If u have an eye for style and trends then u will do great here just like I do. It's a win win cuz I get to have so much fun making $ on the side, as well as shop for the best deals whenever I go in, I'm also clothed with cute stuff. And the staff is so awesome, they know u by name with a few checking me in before I even get to the counter. I always bring in my friends and family to do a little shopping at the sales racks. I've been to many thrift stores, and while there are some lower priced items here, I haven't found many. I am overwhelmed by the fact that this store mostly caters to women - it's exclusively run by women and almost entirely patronized by women - and as a slender man I have bought but a half dozen items over the last fifteen years because of the limited selection. Men's shoes are few and large, and what dominates men's clothing aren't everyday items. I have tried to consign many times and have never sold what were popular expensive items. I'm also baffled that they don't offer any in-store trade credit or cash. Women seem to love this place, but as a man I just don't see the appeal. Places like Buffalo Exchange have an almost equal selection for men as women and I appreciate and respect that. I think the store would grow on me if men's clothing had equal representation, because younger men such as myself have an interest (both stylistically and financially) in used clothing, and few stores seem to realize that. read more

I bought a wedding dress there, and it was a great experience. There's only one dressing room in the bridal section which isn't the greatest..but there's more dressing rooms towards the back. I was lucky enough to get first dibs on the dressing room with my mom. I'm a size 14 and worried that I wasn't going to find one that fit me, but I actually had a hard time choosing from two perfect ones! There's a lot of wedding dresses to choose from, all different sizes. I even found one that still had its tags on and had never been worn that was perfect. Prices are great, mine was only $200. I was comfortable, and the lady helping my mom and I was so friendly, down to earth and good at what she does. She even made my day by asking me "Are you saying yes to the dress?" because I had told her I had been watching that show like crazy. Even though I was dorky, I had the perfect wedding dress buying experience. When I had gone to David's Bridal in the past, their customer service, didn't come close to this and you have to walk out, where everyone in the store can see you.
