The reason to come here is because you work at the nearby hospital or bank, you want Japanese, but you don't want to walk very far. It's a very small place, but never seems to get very busy. The food is so-so, but their lunch specials are so cheap that it's very tempting. Service is very quick. I would not choose to come again. read more

The other reviews say delivery time sucks. I order for pick up and they made the sushi really fast (less than 10 minutes). I've only ever gotten their vegetarian stuff and their vegetarian rolls are really good, and portions are bigger and cheaper than umi's (down on union) read more

Let me first say that its family owned and I know they are doing OK so coming from a very low working asian class family i can understand the struggle. The food is in itself A-OK. I usually get it when Im having a bad day and its does its job to make me feel better. Normal price. Place is small but its not meant for that anyways. I mean if you want sushi that is just THERE and its close to you then go for it. Just don't expect OMG ITS AMAZING. They do their best for their prices and its not some Manhattan place where you pay 50 a plate. read more

The price being this low for hand rolls that are usually a dollar or two more at different places really says a lot about its quality. A major sushi lover but this place was a no for me. I ordered the salmon avocado roll this time and its rice was super mushy, very unpalatable. Its ginger does not give off its traditional stringent taste and its wasabi is not that "hot." It was a little concerning to see yellow spots on the rice and how warm the salmon was. Says a lot about freshness. You are better off ordering the same order for a dollar or two more at a different restaurant, trust me. All these reviews that are praising this shop sounds fake to what I have had before from this shop. read more

I was excited for this local sushi place to open up when they were renovating the little plaza area a few years ago! New Tokyo seems to be a family-owned business. I remember checking this place out when they first opened, and I haven't stopped since. They have an awesome lunch menu... I always opt for the lunch special that comes with two rolls, salad, and soup for about $7! And the lunch special doesn't end until around 3 or 4pm. Their udon and Hibachi fried rice are also on point if you're tired of sushi. The restaurant itself isn't ginormous - they have three tables that seats four, one that seats two, and a mini bar that can seat about three people. Just to be safe, I recommend dining in or picking up - sometimes their delivery can be a little while, unless you live really close! read more

Not bad! Friend and I came here for a quick lunch, and we made it in time before their lunch options ended. Pretty decent food for what you pay. I ordered the lunch option spicy tuna with 2 salmon nigiri and 1 shrimp, which comes with miso soup and salad for $6.95. They serve you with a lot of fish in the rolls, which is pretty good tasting (I love spicy tuna!), and the fish is fresh. My friend ordered the chicken katsu bento, which came with siomai, miso soup, and salad (also for $6.95). Service was quick- it's such a small place that they pay attention to your needs. We were in out for dine-in services within 1 hour. Will definitely come back to try their other rolls. read more

I'm going to start off by saying this is the best take out sushi spot in queens (and I've eaten in a lot of sushi spots). I put an emphasis on 'take out' because this is not a fancy place and is not somewhere you would go on a date but it is definitely the freshest sushi at an affordable price. I use to get my sushi from River's at Springfield. They definitely got quality and an atmosphere but their prices has definitely gone up. This place definitely deserves more stars, the sushi is good and affordable for what you are getting. It has definitely substituted for my sushi cravings. (I come here almost every weekend(:) My friends and I love their spicy white tuna roll and their party platters.. writing this review got me craving for some New Tokyo. I love sushi and I'm particular about the quality of fish I get at sushi places. I have only gotten takeout from New Tokyo once, so take this review with a grain of salt. That being said, the place was quite small, not a good place to hang out. You'd probably be better off getting takeout or delivery. The rolls were small and the fish didn't taste fresh, so that was a big turnoff for me. They used only a minimal amount of rice for the sushi rolls as well. For the price, I would say you don't really get your money's worth. If I decide to visit another time, I'll edit this review with more remarks. read more

I live across the street and love their food. I've been ordering from here for the last 4 years. Their restaurant is small with a few tables but I mostly order for pick-up. The food is yummy and fresh, prices are decent and their service is quick. My orders are always ready in about 10-15 mins. They're open for lunch until late, can't beat that! :) read more

I went in to grab lunch, I got 2 spicy salmon rolls and a shrimp roll. The salmon tasted old and it has way too much mayo in it. The shrimp smelled odd and tasted stale as if it had been left out too long. Do yourself a favor and spend your money at the subway next door. read more

This is my go-to spot when we're doing take out. They're on seamless and grubhub so I usually have then deliver ... only downside is that it takes about an hour for the food to get to you. I always get the spicy kani and chicken tempura roll with a side of shumai and when I was always, I mean ALWAYS. It satisfies my craving everytime! My brother usually gets the fried ice which is always hot on the outside, cold on the inside and perfectly in tact when it gets to us ... it baffles me. My dad loves the octopus salad & my mom loves the hibachi fried rice. It takes a lot for my parents to actually like take out so this place is definitely doing something right! read more

The place is small, and you would think that the small places would actually be good. But it wasnt. The bagel roll was nothing less than disgusting. The worse sushi ive ever had in my life. The spicy tuna roll did not taste fresh and the spicy mayo was nasty. I will never return here again!!!! If you want good sushi keep driving past and go to umi sushi. Their food was fair. But with very unfriendly service. and also it took about an hour every time I order delivery. Don't go if you can.

I don't think I've ever had such subpar sushi in my life. The food was delivered over an hour after I placed my order. The rice was overcooked and way too sticky. Rather than using cucumber in their rolls they used lettuce. I ordered two shrimp tempura rolls, a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll. I couldn't even bring myself to eat much of what we ordered as it tasted so disgusting. The miso soup was about the only thing that was edible. Total waste of 30 bucks. read more

Dirty and horrible quality. We ordered delivery and found a rubber band INSIDE one of our sushi. We were beyond grossed out. Besides the horrific, the sushi itself was BAD. The rice were like paste, seaweed taste like plastic and my husband found a piece of fish bone in his spicy salmon roll. My girlfriend and I had a sushi craving late night and came across New Tokyo. We always seen it and have been wanting to go in but we weren't really in the mood. Once you go in you can see that there is very limited seating with about 4 tables that fit 4 people to each table and you have the sushi bar. The place is fairly new and you can tell that its a family run business , which is always good. The staff was friendly and the place was well kept. That night we decided on the Spicy Tuna Roll, which cost $4.25. I thought the prices were very cheap and as for the sushi itself it was very good, it had a little kick to not to spicy but overall very good. We will definitely be coming back and ordering for delivery from here for those sushi cravings. read more

I actually love this place. Their sushi is always fresh and they have great special rolls which are our favorite thing to get. They are always made well with good portions and good combinations of ingredients. They reconginze our address now and know we dont like the fish eggs on the top of the rolls. One time i forgot to tell them and when they showed up there were no fish eggs! I was really happy and kind of impressed they remembered and didnt put them. They are mainly a takeout/delivery place, I wouldn't recommend eating in, the dining room is tiny. I picked up once and the place is clean shush I always check for. Picking up takes much less time than delivery. When i picked up i noticed their phone rings off the hook and the orders never stop coming in so the delivery takes a while and it seems to be getting worse now that they accept web orders too which is why the 4 stars instead of 5. Never order delivery except by calling as it will take even longer. If I know I want sushi I usually try to call way ahead of time because delivery takes at least an hour or longer these days. If you want or need it quicker pick it up. Otherwise I definitely recommend! read more

I've never eaten in the restaurant so my review is only for delivery. This is my go to place when I want sushi at home. I usually get the 3 roll deal that comes with miso soup. The sushi is average for the price- you get what you pay for size wise. It's fresh but I don't expect to be wowed when I order from here. I order for delivery from this place every Friday, ALWAYS. It takes about an hour being that it is Friday, but trust me its worth it. I usually get a Hanada roll, a tuna roll and a small salad on the side. The sushi here is fresh and on point. The only con about this place is dining in, the service is horrible. The waitress doesn't greet you, doesn't smile, very inattentive, so don't even bother... last time I went I didn't want to leave a tip it was so bad. Ordered a Yellowtail combo, Sushi deluxe and a California roll. The yellowtail is fresh and the raw fish in the sushi combo is fresh but on the thinner side. The rice breaks apart quit easy, so it's hard to eat with chopsticks but that didn't bother me too much. Other sushi places usually include salad and soup with their combo but theirs only come with soup, little bummed out about that. read more

I ordered the gyoza dumpling appetizer, avocado salad, alaskan roll, eel avocado roll, and spicy tuna crunchy roll for delivery. It arrived within the estimated time frame, about 20-30mins. The sushi wasn't very good. The rice was too soft, so they all stuck together and then fell apart after you try to separate them. They did not put any kind of barrier between the rolls and the wasabi paste. There was no crunch to the spicy tuna crunchy roll. I found salmon bones in a few of the sushi rolls. Overall, disappointing. I would not order from here again. read more

Just ordered a quick bite, (based on delivery) I live in an apartment and they want you to come downstairs to pick up the food, which is whack. I'm tipping you to deliver me food. Prices are okay. Kind of a turn off that they use imitation meat that is described on the menu, made me feel kind of skeptical from ordering from them. read more
