Harlot runs on the smaller end in terms of club sizes in SF. The place is very narrow, and given…read morehow many tables there are, I wouldn't really call it a dance club -- like you literally can't dance except for a small square space in front of the DJ. It's much better as a place to gather friends and drink. The music is overall pretty well-selected. It's not too mainstream, but also not too obscure where you're just questioning what's going on. You'll definitely want to be on your feet and feeling the beat.

Happy Hour is much better because the bouncer in the picture below is not present. Story: So my friend tells me their coworker is celebrating a birthday party here. I think, "great!" I come here for Happy Hour on Fridays and it will be a great time once again. It's about to be 1:00am and we're patiently waiting in line to get in. Harlot tells us there's a cover to get in but since a friend is having a birthday here and they have a table, we shouldn't have to pay. The bouncer tells us if the owner of the table comes out to collect us we can come in. After waiting for a while we just ask the bouncer if he can just check the table list for our names so that we don't have to wait for the friend. This is when the bouncer flips 180. He tells we not allowed in anymore and doesn't want to let us in. We think like you just promised us something else. He tells us we're being annoying and tells us to get out of the line. My friend gets real upset and asks why he changed it all up all of a sudden. This is when the bouncer picks up the rope dividers and starts pushing them towards us so that we move out of the line. We essentially don't move but the bouncer keeps edging closer with the ropes and it feels like he's trying to intimidate us with his height. Since we don't move bouncer puts his hands up to get us to move and makes contact with my friend. My friend flips out and doesn't understand what constitutes that kind of behavior from a bouncer. Look I understand that a bouncer's job is difficult having to deal with drunk people but I believe it's common courtesy to know not to put your hands on a customer. I'll take that your mad and frustrated any day but the fact that you have to resort to pushing an individual to get what you want is not ok. You originally had me at 5 stars but you are now down to 1 which has been rightfully deserved by the bouncer in the photo.

The place was packed with people traveling from places as far as Antioch, Vallejo, and Cupertino to enjoy the sets of 10 DJ's from AfterLife, DeathGuild, Club Dark Sparkle, Club Night Shift, Gothicumbia, and LosGothsCo in 4 rooms, and two packed stories of dancers. This was definitely an event you didn't want to miss out on. So thankful to find my way into this supportive community. It's been a lovely place to meet some great people.

Parking can be a bit annoying, but it's not impossible if you know your way around. My best bet last time was parking alongside Costco on the Harrison St. side. I believe the actual Costco lot becomes a paid lot from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., per the Impark website, but I haven't had to resort to that yet. The bartenders here pour heavy, and drinks aren't outrageous for a club at roughly $12-14 for a strong well cocktail. I had an efficient, good time. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just a solid little venue for catching a show.

Wow. Badlands is either willfully ignorant of this rampant issue or potentially complicit -_- I get that there's always been a bit of a seedy grungy vibe, but the insane amount of pickpocketing at this location is just absurd. All this security and surveillance for WHAAATTTTT PROS: - Cheap and decent drinks - Throwback music + Top 40s always - Staff are super friendly but now IDK if that's a front to lower your defenses - Security line goes pretty fast considering how packed it was CONS: - Not ventilated at all. It's HUMID and the mirrors are fogging up with steam - Need to take a photo before entry for "protection" but this is baffling considering our current administration and LGBTQ safety overall - Very grimy... I hoped they'd improve this since reopening - WELL, the glaring pickpocketing issue lol. The DJ halfheartedly mentioned to watch out for pickpockets mid-set, but by the end of the night, EVERY OTHER GROUP we passed by had someone saying something like "my phone/wallet's gone!", easily 20+ people. Meanwhile, the staff is roughly pushing everyone out with complete disregard to the panic Thankfully I'm able to replace everything with little inconvenience and wasn't too stressed in the moment, but now seeing the other reviews how this has been a regular occurrence for them for years (and targeting women/femmes also...), this is ridiculous. I went to the Sac Badlands for years and nothing like this has ever happened. If you want to risk coming here, present as male or use a phone tether I guess!
