A welcomed and much needed addition to Daniel Island. I've been a loyal customer to the shop on Coleman Boulevard, but this one is sooo much better. Although, they don't have the smoked meats yet, they've got sandwiches which are available every day and sliced to order! The roast beef is probably the best I've had ever! Hard to believe, but true! And their sandwiches are heaping with meat! There are specials or make your own and each comes with a bag of chips. The meat case has prime cuts of meat, sausages, jumbo chicken wings, homemade crab cakes, etc. A unique touch is their different sauces that can be sealed in plastic air tight similar to one of those food saver machines (remember those?) I'm in love with the crab cakes- sometimes the taste varies, because they'll add more scallions. The cold case has pre-made salads, pasta dishes, 1/4 hotdogs, flavored butters, cheeses, etc. I regularly buy the potato salad and hotdogs! The freezer section has family meals, homemade filled pasta, vegetables, biscuits, meats and sausages to name a few. There's a wine section with excellent choices and amazing prices! Oh and if you sign up for their wine club you get discounts and free bottles! There's also a small variety of desserts - pies by the slice and the most amazing heath bar brownie chunk! Have I provided enough info to entice you?!

This was my first visit to the New York Butcher Shoppe, Daniel Island location. The Mt. Pleasant location was a regular stop for me for years until moving to the Park Circle area. While the offerings are just about the same, my experience was not quite as satisfying. They offer a huge wine selection and a large variety of fresh meats. There are also several dishes fresh and frozen that are oven ready in family style trays, large and small. I was specifically looking for manicotti, which I've purchased many times in the past at their other location. Much to my dismay I was told that they only had the small frozen trays of four, and with the holidays approaching would not be able to provide me with two large trays. I was also trying to order two large trays of chicken parmesan. It was Friday morning, and I did not need the order filled until some time later on Monday. The young staff was pleasant and tried to be helpful, but seemed unable to answer my questions. After speaking with a senior member of the staff he explained that manicotti was not one of the trays being offered for the holiday menu and they would not be able to fulfill my order. While in the store I decided to call the Mt. Pleasant location on Coleman Street and the gentleman who answered the phone was quick to take my order and agreed to have it ready with no trouble after the weekend before the end of business on Monday. I just feel like if it's normally an item you prepare in-house, and a regular customer or a new customer is trying to place an order, that everything reasonably possible should be attempted to satisfy the customer. I did not get the warm and fuzzy customer appreciation feeling at this location. I love the offerings and the convenience, but customer service is very important to me. Mt. Pleasant isn't all that far away after all.

First of all can't believe i am first to post. Love that y'all are on island. Your meat quality and expertise is very much needed and appreciated. There are many serious backyard smokers and grillers who love having you here...me too. However one "beef". Love that you are employing young kids from from the island but please teach them how to butcher wrap a piece of meat. 3-4 times the stuff about falls out of the paper.

Turkey, have and roast beef, with awesome chips!

What a fabulous butcher shoppe! Great selection of meats, and pre made dinners. Stopped in for some beef, and also had a sandwich, which was delicious, and not skimpy in the meat either! The staff are all friendly, and a clean environment. I'll definitely be back for more sandwiches, meats, and dinners!

I stopped by Burbage Meats this weekend to get a steak for myself and see how it was before committing to buying a fair number of steaks. I got a ribeye for myself, and saw some fresh hot dogs and sausages as well as some local items like peach soda from Georgia and BBQ sauce. The hot dogs I got are fantastic and they are actually cheaper per pound than high quality ones from Publix. As a native New Yorker I could eat hot dogs every day for lunch, which is exactly what I have been doing, and they are great. I cooked up the ribeye last night, the way I usually do (sit on the counter top with salt for 30 minutes, 2 minute sear per side in a cast iron pan with a knob of butter and finished in the broiler) and it came out with a perfect crust and was so tender it came apart significantly with just my fork. Flavor was amazing too, much beefier than ribeye usually tastes. I also got a pre-made beef stroganoff which I ate for dinner, and while it wasn't my favorite stroganoff, it was really good and hit the spot. I will definitely be having Burbage do the meats for myself event in a few weeks! J.Ja

Galpão Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse - Food Review 4.6 / 5…read moreStars If you're looking for an authentic Brazilian steakhouse experience in Charleston, Galpão Gaucho delivers a premium, meat-forward dining experience that leans heavily into quality, variety, and attentive service. The Experience From the moment you sit down, the pace is noticeable--in a good way. Service is fast and efficient, with gauchos consistently rotating through the dining room offering a wide selection of fire-roasted meats. The rhythm of service keeps your plate full without feeling rushed, which is exactly what you want in a traditional Brazilian steakhouse setting. Food Quality & Selection The highlight here is undeniably the extensive variety of meats. From classic cuts like picanha to a range of seasoned beef, chicken, and pork options, there's no shortage of choices. Each cut is carved tableside and served fresh off the skewer, giving you that authentic churrascaria feel. The salad and vegetable bar is impressively large, offering everything from fresh greens and roasted vegetables to cheeses and cold cuts. It's not just filler--it's actually well-stocked and thoughtfully prepared, making it easy to balance out the heavier meat options (if you have the discipline). What Stands Out Fast, continuous service - you're never waiting long for the next cut Wide variety of meats - something for every preference Large, well-rounded salad bar - more than just an afterthought Attentive staff - consistent with what you'd expect from a high-end Brazilian steakhouse Where It Falls Short Salt level can be a bit heavy on some meats, which may not suit everyone Price point (~$85 per person) puts it firmly in the premium dining category Parking is limited, though nearby parking decks make it manageable with a short walk Final Verdict Galpão Gaucho is a solid choice for a high-end dining experience in Charleston, especially if you're going in hungry and want to indulge. While the seasoning can occasionally lean too salty and the price isn't light, the overall experience--driven by quality meats, variety, and strong service--makes it worth it for a special occasion or a serious night out. Best for: Date nights, celebrations, business dinners, or anyone wanting a true Brazilian steakhouse experience without compromise.

It was pleasantly quiet when we arrived, but it filled up quickly as the evening went on -- a good sign. The food here is genuinely delicious and, best of all, reasonably priced for downtown Charleston. We shared a plate that came with pulled pork and smoked chicken wings, along with coleslaw and sweet potato fries. We also started with the smoked rib and charred corn empanadas as an appetizer. Everything was outstanding -- the meats were tender, smoky, and well-seasoned without being overdone. Their coleslaw is my favorite among the options; it's creamy with just a hint of heat that keeps it interesting. The sweet potato fries were a nice touch too. We had our eye on the pork belly burnt ends, but they were sold out that night -- understandable for a popular item. My only real nitpick is that they don't offer brisket, but with everything else tasting so good, it's hard to complain much. Our waitress, Brady, was fantastic -- friendly, attentive, and really helpful with recommendations. Service like that makes a big difference. If you're in the mood for quality smoked BBQ without the tourist-trap markup, Poogan's Smokehouse is a great choice. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town. Highly recommended!
