With an average of 150,00 people attending Comic-Con daily, it is a jam-packed convention. It's essential to have a plan! Pack snacks, a refillable water bottle, and maybe even Tylenol. Wear comfortable sneakers and lightweight clothes. Even if you plan to cosplay, the footwear will make or break you. Download the app and study the map. There is no one in sight to guide you once inside. I was disappointed by the lack of personnel to help people who had questions. I had questions, too, and sadly, the lady working the info station couldn't give us any info. Make it make sense. Also, as others have mentioned, be prepared to sit on the floor because seating is not an option. They need to provide more seating for the amount of people they let in. The food is ridiculously overpriced, but at least it's good. Thankfully, we visited on Thursday. I don't want to imagine how chaotic The Javitz is on the weekend of the convention. Considering this was our first time, I felt we were well prepared, and to my luck, the kid rated it a ten out of ten. So we will be attending again next year. Overall, Comic Con is an excellent experience for comic lovers. It's a great place to see your favorite celebrities, buy comics and merchandise, and meet other fans. The people who dress up make it more memorable. It's truly a sight to behold. They enforced rules such as asking before taking people's pics. I liked that. If you are claustrophobic, I don't recommend this event to you. It is overwhelmingly crowded. Entry alone is $70 plus taxes and fees. It's not worth going if you don't like crowds of people. NYCC 2024 was my first Comic-Con ever. My bf raved about it and we were both disappointed this year. Fewer people had homemade costumes. Artist stands were crammed together and they couldn't fully display their art. Everything felt so commercialized and more about sales than the experience. They had a few repeated characters throughout, like if that one paid more $ that character could be displayed over and over again, which made it boring to see the same thing. Food selection was limited and expensive. Bathrooms had long lines except in the panel areas. And we even saw a booze booth with top shelf alcohol and according to my boo they've never had that before because Comic-Con is supposed to be child friendly. read more

This place is amazing. They have great stores, with good quality items and good prices. The people are nice and allow pictures, and their costumes are fantastic. The food is great. (Don't sleep on the fries!) I went with my uncle four times, and all of those times were fun. read more

Do you like comic books, sci-fi television, cult classics, and cosplaying women wearing so little that you can tell when it's cold? Then why the hell haven you bought a comic con ticket??? It's got everything you want, though it is getting more crowded since COVID ended, which makes it difficult to get around sometimes (I prefer to admire women from afar so I can get a good look rather than up close, because I have flatulence problems). Seriously, there was a guy in a Dr Doom on a dinosaur costume that looked good, but kept getting in my way, his tail almost hit me in the nuts when he tried to turn around. WTF, dude. But anyway, I'm still a happy attendee, and I'll be even happier as I look through the photos of the experience and see these women again, and remember how cold it was read more

New York Comic Con ("NYCC") is an annual convention hosted at Jacob Javits Convention Center that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. NYCC is about much more than just comics, it has evolved to become a sprawling event about film, games, television series, artwork, clothing, toys -- and comics. The convention is a four-day affair -- Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are sold per day, per person, though four-day bundles are available. Thursday tickets are generally the least expensive and most available, while Saturday tickets seem to be most popular. Children's tickets are available for slightly lower prices, but I wouldn't recommend taking small children because of crowd congestion and limited access to bathrooms. The best way to buy tickets is online, and months in advance -- through the "pre-sale" events. Arrive early. Although convention hours are generally 10 AM to 6 PM, it pays to arrive much earlier, as you'd be in front of the line to enter -- and be able to explore the exhibits with less competition, for maybe an hour or so as the convention center fills up. NYCC has done a great job improving the speed of entry over the years. Wear comfortable shoes. There will be lines for nearly everything, including the bathrooms -- for both men and women. You'll likely be on your feet most of the day. It helps to dress in layers. Food options seemed greatly expanded in 2019, but you won't need to wait in line if you bring your own food and drinks. Consider getting something from your favorite sandwich shop the day before. Consider bringing a large shopping bag to hold any freebies you may receive or other things you might purchase. Some booths do give out large shopping bags imprinted with their logo or product image, but supplies tend to run out quickly. Bring a camera to take pictures of the incredible, exquisite costumes that cosplayers wear at this event. Some costumes seem true-to-life, while others are superbly creative mashups -- like Joker Batman or my favorite for this year -- McThor! While it is possible to take pictures anywhere on the show floor, many cosplayers show off their costumes outside in the afternoon, along the "Inner Roadway" section of Javits Center -- where one will also find the outside exhibits, port-a-potties, and food trucks. read more

After being cancelled last year due to COVID, NY Comic Con is back in 2021. Although there is a respectable turnout, it was not as large and grandiose as years past. One thing I could not help noticing was that many of the largest exhibitors in prior years was minimally represented or completely absent. For example, I didn't really see Marvel or DC or Disney. Fortunately, this was a great opportunity for some smaller companies to make bigger impact. there was a lot of anime represented: Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, etc. One of the biggest attractions for Comic Con has always been the cosplayers...this year did not disappoint with costumed heroes and villains wandering the hallways taking photos with fans. The small merchandise exhibitors were also well represented, selling everything from lightsabers to stuffed Pokémon dolls ... everything you need to complete your own cosplay outfit :) read more

If you can handle cosplay, fun, art, photo ops, eye candy, celebrity panels, shopping and extraordinary people then this is the place for you. Points: -If you are not going in character dress comfortable. -Bring an extra bag for goodies. -Eat before you get there. -Get your starbucks before you get there. (Outrageous lines) -Bring a snack in your bag. -Bring a bottle of water. -Bring hand sanitizer -Bring baby wipes. -Bring cash and credit card (outrageous ATM fees). -Walk a couple blocks to catch uber or taxi. First time going to a Comic Con (the one in San Francisco that I went to years ago doesn't count as it wasn't even half a quarter size of this. I was really excited for the Batman The Animated Series Panel and that was the only thing I was looking forward to at this convention. First time I've ever attended a panel. Be sure to get there early as the lines to end to grow big fairly quickly at around 9AM and this panel started at 11AM. Glad to see the producers and some of the voice actors talk about their experiences and thoughts about doing the animated series and the fielded a few questions from the fans in the audience. Main floor: This is where the big vendors were located. A good mix of art, prints, video games, plush toys and collectibles, figurines (big and small) and t-shirts. A large area to walk through and sometimes you'll catch something after a 2nd walkthrough that you missed the 1st time around. Artist alley: Lots of good artists with great prints down here. Just prints and comics here. In general, there's a lot of people so it feels like your in a can of packed sardines at times trying to navigate the convention. The bathrooms here are gender neutral which I found to be interesting but cool nevertheless. Lots of other panels to go to and artist/celebrity photo ops/signings but didn't have enough time to do everything. I only went on Friday. Bottom line, I loved experiencing a real comic convention. I wouldn't mind checking it out again. read more

Pop Heaven Paradise for everyone, not just comic book lovers! TV & movie stars, games, toys, but more staff/help needed. First of all, 5 stars to Yelp's Florence C. For organizing the Yelp Event or else I likely would not have gone. Just a terrific way to spend the day and night. I went on a Thursday and I strategically arrived one hour after opening to avoid the long lines. I thought this would prevent me from getting into the Robert Kirkman panel on The Walking Dead but it did not. Please keep in mind this panel did not include any of the TV show stars. This was probably one of the most entertaining one hours I can remember! Robert Kirkman gave his fans an incredible experience allowing them to ask him questions directly of any kind! He's incredibly funny, honest, and someone I would hang around with if he wasn't as famous as he is! The main show floor area is massive and packed! Unbelievable how many people come but also extremely exciting! People dress up as superheroes and just pose for photographs. Incredible costumes! If you are a collector you will go bananas here! There's much more else to do, they have panels where different subjects or celebrities come and speak to the crowd. Obviously some of them are really hard to get in if they're extremely popular. In addition they have an area where you can get either an autograph or a photo with one of your favorite entertainment celebrities or artists. Another hidden gem is what they call artist alley! Here you will see lots of artists displaying their work and will be happy to speak with you. So incredibly cool! This is something everyone should do in their life. They also have a comic cons on the West Coast. My only complaint was that they needed more staff to help people with questions. Particularly on the first floor where they have autograph areas, photograph areas, it was very difficult to navigate and I nearly missed an appointment that I had set up. If I had not studied the map of the place prior to coming I never would've found it. Also the signs were not great either. Otherwise a wonderful experience! read more

OMG NYCC!!! Omg is so cool to be a geek! Ok I'm being sarcastic; thank you pop-culture for all the wannabe geeks that now attend Comic Con. Here's a question for you. How many comics have you read? Are you a Marvel or DC collector? None, ok so what made you come? Oh cause my friend said it would be cool. OK! Many reasons why NYCC has become over crowded and annoying and why true fans no longer want to attend. NYCC became extremely frustrating over the past few years. Yeah I love Comic Con and all and I do enjoy going but the crowds and crowds of people have just completely got out of control each year. 2018 pushed it over the limit for me with the crowds and I've had enough. They've over sold on tickets and it just became exhausting just to get through the crowds. Things I do love are seeing awesome cos-play, artist galley, Thomas Kinkade, panels and last but not least Alex Ross Gallery of course. I'm so over Funko and their damn lottery which I've never got into 3 years in a row. I've completely gave up on them now for NYCC as I shake my head with disappointment. If you can handle the extremely large crowds and don't mind walking around for 8hrs to try and see half the stuff and are a geek then you'll have a great time. FYI get there way before there 10am opening because there's always a long line that starts downstairs. The cues are super long. Some people even get there the night before. I'm not that NYCC kinda fan to do so though. It does depend if your trying to get collectibles or first online for artist galley or get an autograph. If your just going to go you don't need to get there super early. You also won't see everything in one day either. read more

Comic Con is an experience that you will enjoy and possible not enjoy at the same time. It is definitely not a place to go if you do not prefer crowds, on Saturday alone is gonna be super packed here, like the subway level of crowded but at its peak where you can not move going left or right. For years, I had not been back to comic con, I have not bought an comics in a long while and the experience was alot different years ago, where there was the Anime fest and the Comic Con in its infant stages as two separate events. Actually, the Anime festival some how disappeared (IN 2018 they are back somehow) and then the crowds of crowds all flock to Javits center for this 4 day event. Not saying it is not worth it but I have never gone for 4 day itself that seem like too much time. You can get a one day pass on Friday for possible $40 (best day to go), Saturday ticket might be more like $50 or even more in the secondary market and just plain harder to get. +Positives -You see some great cosplay everywhere, outside and inside of the venue. -So many photo ops to take pics of artists, eye candy, cosplay regulars and cosplay legends. Adults and children alike. -If you are a big Instagrammer like myself you got the chance to meet some IG cosplay legends like YaYa Han, Katie George, Jessica Nigri and many more. -You have to decide what you really want from your Comic Con experience. -Dress Comfortably and however long you think you will be in line, just add two hours. +Negatives -You will live and die by your phone's battery, might die before you can tweet or post on IG about anything good. Also, you could miss a once in a lifetime photo op. -You can say everyone at Comic Con is in this together with your fellow nerds, but that is not always the case. -Some people do not ask before they touch, someone could be dressed as Wonder Woman or Big Hero 6, just don't touch and violate their personal space. -If you are trying to get exclusives and other stuff from booths, you might not get it. It is one thing that alot of people do want these exclusives but it also might just take literally all of your time. Most people might possible spend 5 or 6 hours the whole day just enjoying or trying to enjoy the entire experience. -Casual fans beware, you might want to avoid as soon as it opens, there tends to be a mad rush to go to certain panels (tv themed) and toy and FUNKO pop exclusives. -You really can't record anything you are not supposed to record. You will be in alot of trouble trying to record an exclusive clips or movie trailer, the guards will be watching like a hawk and probably run after you and try to get in that ass. -Crowds and more crowds, I will just repeat, you will possibly get humped in the front and the back, it is just that much traffic around. +Overall, great to come to once in your life or once every four years. I would rather see the Nintendo Powerfest come back or something like that from my youth but still you can take a trip to Comic Con next year or the new Anime festival which has returned. read more

The worst. This was going to be for my birthday (this would take place after my birthday but my mom surprised me with the tickets). I should have know they were shady when tickets were selling out before the General Onsale. VIP gets first pick for ticket sales so unless you want to go all four days or a specific day to go see someone you really wanted to see, too bad cause that will most likely not happen unless you have VIP or you are fast enough. I bought tickets for Thursday and Friday for 2023 to go see the cast of Critical Role. However when the time came to buy Autographs and Photo-Ops, since you need to buy them beforehand and can't get them on-site at the convention, you needed to get on a different website to get them. I was there for General Onsale at 3 pm EST like they said they would open and the website would constantly crash, delay, or give errors. Even if I could just get one person from Critical Role that would have been great but nothing. I can't get my money back for my tickets and can only get the money back if I sell them through Lyte. I am not satisfied and would highly recommend everyone to find a convention that is much more organized and not do shady things like this. Thank you NYCC for wasting my time and not letting me have the experience I could have had. And just so no one tells me that I'm lying, here are images to back up what I am saying. Lots of panels, great guests, artists, and industry booths. But incredibly high ticket prices, as much as the cost of a 4-day pass to smaller conventions. And talk about hidden fees! They force you to pay them $14 for expedited priority mail shipping with tracking for your badge, and won't even offer you the option of picking it up at will call unless you have an international address. If you select a US address it forces you to pay them $14. This is exactly the kind of hidden fee the Biden administration is going to be cracking down on in the future. Then greedy ticket sellers won't be able to pocket the seven or eight bucks they make by paying for flat rate priority mail and pocketing the difference. read more

Oh Man! I think this was my best Comic Con ever. Not only did I try some food from the inside vendors and the food trucks outside, but I actually got the chance to order three custom works of art from the artists in Artist Alley. My personal favorite is Sara Woolley who is busy putting some finishing touches on what will be hanging in my living room soon. So of course, my feet are burning and my arms and shoulders ache from carrying stuff for about 5 hours. However, this year it didn't bother me at all. I was having a blast! NYCC topped out at 151,000 tickets sold this year and took the title from San Diego of most attended Con. Their popularity has grown by leaps and bounds as geekdom and nerdishness has become popular in the mainstream. It's a far cry from the old days when the Con just took up the ballroom at the Hotel Pennsylvania, but now it's the big time at Jacob Javits. This year was a bit of a letdown because the big houses of Marvel and DC had nothing spectacular to show off. Marvel just finished up with the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and totally unprepared to hype next year's Avengers movie. DC had the 75th Anniversary of Batman and all they could cook up was to show the Batman costumes from Michael Keaton to Christian Bale?! womp womp. Gaming was at a minimum this year also with no big setups from any game producers and no tournaments or announcements as had in the past. Snooze fest. Despite the crowds, we were able to circulate around pretty well. Got the t-shirts, some swag, picked up some toys, saw some great cosplayers, so I was happy. We even got to meet Jordan from the Toy Hunter TV show! read more

I have been going to New York Comic-Con for about ten years now. Originally I attended as a regular paying attendee, but in recent years I have attended with a Press badge for my Transformers web site. This generally means I try to attend all four days to maximize my time at the convention. Over the years, NYCC has grown in scope and size. There was once a time you could attend on Thursday or Sunday and the con would be relatively uncrowded, but now every single day there are huge crowds and you know what? That can be a good thing. Sure there is a lot of elbowing through crowds and at times of course waiting on lines for bathrooms but this also means that on any given line you will likely find someone who will geek out with you about a favorite TV show or comic book. This also means when you are in panels, people roar with enthusiasm right alongside you. The communal experience is absolutely wonderful. Due to the limitations of the Javitz Center, NYCC has expanded to the Hammerstein Ballroom and the Madison Square Garden Theater. That means more than in the past you have to be very strategic about how you plan your NYCC experience. Days before the convention I highly recommend you lay out exactly which vendors, celebrities and panels you want to see and make sure you make time for all of them. In general I find Thursday to be a good "shopping" day to pick up exclusives, leaving the rest of the days to focus on panels. Cosplay, geekery, celebrity photo ops, studio "experiences" and more make for an awesome experience every year and I feel fortunate to be a part of it! read more

This was my first nycc, but not my first con by far. The celeb guests seemed to be lacking a bit this year. The crowd was ridiculous. No fights or anything like that just extremely crowded. Long lines for more booths. Everything was on the expensive side. With that said it's huge so there is plenty to look at. The entire today took me about 4 hours to get a good look at things. I had been going to NYCC for a few years. However, each year it seemed to just get worse to the point where you better be in queue online at 12 pm to buy tickets asap before they're sold out. When you do get tickets (which are now so difficult to get), you're a sardine in a can inside the convention hall. It's actually quite disappointing. You have no idea how many times I've felt like cattle being ushered around through the aisles. Also, the lines for the q&a and panels are ridiculous. You better jump on the lines super early. Thursdays and Fridays are definitely more bearable than the weekend. Saturday and Sunday is ridiculous. I have been recently to other comic book conventions and it's just a lot nicer. They need to find a bigger space. There's just not enough room in here for everyone. read more

NYCC 2016! Although there are a lot of cons, going to the "comic con" is a must at least once. For me and this year, it was mainly due to this year being Stan Lee's last east coast appearance and my son and I wanted to meet him. While this is obviously not star studded San Diego and technically a weaker overall line up than some of the other state comic cons, it wasn't a slouch either. I was mixed at first due to the ticket buying process and the verification process. Yes, it is nice due to scalpers and sites like Stub Hub with their higher prices, the overall process wasn't too pleasing. This is a con, not dinner at the White House. While most of the staff on the day of the event both inside and on the local streets were fine, staff on the site weren't that efficient or great. I can understand being overwhelmed with questions (some stupid), that is what they are there for - shouldn't be an issue with a con. I've been to multiple cons over the years and have never have had the frustrations of this one. Even their site is unorganized and sloppy. Hardly indications of anything and you can hardly plan if you want to be selective with dates or autographs/photo ops. Basically if you don't go all 4 days, you're missing something in some way. No matter how you plan, you'll get an 11th hour curve ball. Again, never an issue with any of the multiple cons I've ever been to......ever. Speaking of photo ops, while they try - it wasn't as smooth, timely, or great as they claimed when I made my purchase. I can understand due to volume why they have to rush you in and out, but things could be a little better for fans who are not cattle. And be prepared for the laminate scam on the way out. You get a print of the picture and then you get nailed for $5 more for the protection of the picture if you choose. That should come with the picture automatically since they're cheap - but no, $5 more here. Next time, I will have the picture protection with me since I can get a pack for less than half of what they charge for 1. The Javits Center was a good space for this con, though we had to walk many blocks around to even get into the doors. If you have a FitBit, you'll use it nicely here. Between the 5 block radius walks and inside the con itself, I must've walked several miles for the day at least. The con itself was what it was. There are some freebies available for all and others on a first come first server basis. Bringing a backpack is a must. A lot of vendors with all sorts of prices - some stuff you can find online for cheaper and others you can't find online at all. I could have easily spent hundreds if I didn't have self discipline. While the con autographs/pics are pricey to begin with, the celebs at the dealer tables also are - so be selective unless you don't care. The food in both the Javtis Center and on the con floors are predicable priced and subpar. As another reviewer mentioned, there are plenty of local options outside the Center that are both cheaper and taste better. The con gets VERY crowded and it's actually a hassle to walk in certain spots. I can't blame the con for the clueless, oblivious, rude, smelly, and zombie-like patrons. There isn't a great amount of seating options at the Javtis Center, so people will sit in random spots on the floor and along the stairways. I despise crowds of this level, but it's a part of the game so get used to it. The first hour or two is better for less crowding but after that be prepared for heavy congestion and lines throughout the day. The costumes (or cos players) range from excellent to Times Square hustler quality. Most dealers are friendly. I didn't bother with panels, so no comments about that. Overall a good time (sans the crowds) and worth going to at least once. If you like it, you can always go for all days of course. I do think the site and their site employees need work as well as their "announcements" and pricings, but once you get past that it's all uphill from there. read more

I had a nice experience here with my son during the Saturday session for 2018. The official comic con website said kids under 12 are free and adults can bring in 2 kids per paying adult. To my dismay on the way there I saw the nycc site state that kids under 12 above age 5 need to have their own ticket. Also there is a complicated registration process. Luckily the nice lady at the checkpoint let us in after I told her about the confusion. From there we had a lot of fun. There was an awesome break dancing jam session with staff or possibly just cosplayers. Lots of stands selling comics from old rare ones to the latest. Old toys were being sold including transformers from my own childhood and the old skool video game systems. There were many featured talks. I happened to attend one featuring with Frank Miller, a comic book pioneer. Cool! The cosplayers were awesome. Everyone of the people in cool costumes we asked were nice enough to pose for pictures with the kids. Many got a kick out of posing with kids and wanted a picture for themselves. Just nice friendly environment and atmosphere at nycc for people of all ages. read more

New York Comic Con! Let's dress up and get in a line. Then let's squeeze through huge crowds of people and get into some more lines and go shopping! Joking! Sort of, but that is what NYCC has become. I've been going to the New York Comic Con for the past few years. It's definitely a super fun event to go to check out presentations of new games, movies, and tv shows. I also love all of the creative cosplay outfits! It's amazing to see what people can do. However, as each year goes by, there seems to be less major celebrities showing up for main panels and presentations have gotten fewer. It has pretty much become a huge shopping mall for fanboys and autograph/photo ops session, which you have to pay a shit ton for. In the past, I had no trouble getting into the Walking Dead panel. Now when you want to go to a main panel, you need to get in line for a wristband and then another line to get into the panel. Basically, you will spend all day in line so plan your events wisely. Good luck getting passes. If you want to buy passes, you have to be on the website right when they go on sale at 10AM and even then, you will be sent to a virtual queue joining thousands of other people to wait even longer. This can take hours! The prices of passes can range from $40 (1-day) to $105 (4-day). Of course, prices will increase each year due to increase in popularity. *If you have the time and money, get the four-day pass. Thursday and Friday are more chill days because of fewer people. Attended my first ever New York Comic Con today and had a blast. I was lucky enough to win a pro badge to attend Thursday (opening day) of the NYCC. With the pro badge I had the option of attending any panels and events at the New York Public Library and Javits Center. My first stop was the NYPL. Since only pro badge holders were allowed at the NYPL, the crowd was significantly smaller. Which meant we were able to have up close access to the artists, publishers and vendors there. There were also a lot of free books, magazines, posters, buttons and stickers given out to the attendees. For the second half of the day, I spent it at the Javits Center. By the time I got there the place was completely mobbed. There were lines everywhere you looked. I ended up spending most of my time downstairs by the main stage and smaller conference rooms. And even though the Javits was completely mobbed, it was still fun seeing everyone dressed up in various costumes. I had no idea cosplay was such serious business. What a fun and exhausting day. I'm definitely coming back next year! read more

Comic books, action figure, costumes, video games, this is basically a nerds heaven. This was my first time going to ComiCon. I attending only the Saturday event. I have never seen so many creative costumes in my life. You can see the time and money spent in some of these costumes. This is way more serious then your average halloween party. Basically you can dress as an superhero or villain character you like. If you have a costume on people will ask to take pictures of you and with you as well. I picked up some comic books each for $1. In addition, I picked up some drawings/posters from artist alley. If you like and have the $ you can have them create a customized print as well. Also, you will get some freebies. I received a free shirt and two comic books. I will definitely be coming to this convention again and checkout my photos I attached. read more

What do these conventions at Javitts have against adding benches and seats to the floor????? They expect us to walk around and stand for hours and and hours on end. Tired? Leave the convention or sit on the floor.... Meanwhile, all of the exhibitors have chairs. read more

SO my experience AT NYCC is great, and I've always had a great time, so my stars do not reflect that. However, they're a reflection of the management and the customer service, this year in particular. The lottery process was a disaster - I kept getting an error when I was trying to submit my legacy lottery, and I emailed ReedPop multiple times, only finally receiving an email attempting to help me 20 minutes before the lottery ended, which only provided half of a solution that in no way would have rectified the situation. To further this, my friend and I never got confirmed on each other's lottery and when we tried to seek a solution to this, I was then tossed around to a bunch of different people do get the solution. The staff and crew that was present at the con was fantastic, however, and all did their best to help us with our problems while we were there. We then arrived early to attend a panel at the Hammerstein and were near the front of the crowd, only to find out that the floor would be restricted to just those who won the lottery - kind of ruined showing up early. The finally opened the floor up a few minutes before the panel was to start, but at that point why risk losing our fairly good seats in the balcony. The floor never ended up filling up, so it just looked kind of depressing. Now, despite everything I just mentioned previously, the convention itself is a great time, so many exhibitors, artists, and panels to see. If you're into something even vaguely "nerdy", there will be something here for you. The community that attends, in general, is nice - you will never hear so many people apologizing for bumping into you elsewhere in NYC (and you bump into a lot of people here - there's a lot of congestion due to the sheer number of people that come here). You can easily strike up a light conversation with others while waiting on line for anything. The food in the convention center is subpar and overpriced, pretty par for the course with any kind of convention, but they also have food trucks, which move pretty quickly, but again, I've had these food trucks elsewhere and felt it was higher quality, but they are contending with quite a few people here. The lines for the bathroom are also absolutely insane, but they do their best to work around that with port-a-potties, which aren't ideal, but there's really no other way around this because there are just so many people. If you don't like crowds, NYCC is definitely not for you, but if you can jump over that hurdle, you can be among a bunch of like-minded people for an exhausting, but amazingly fun weekend! Just try not to get stressed about the unresponsiveness of ReedPop and enjoy the show they put on! read more

First year at comic con and don't know if I'll go back, unless they change locations or to the one in California. For starters it was SO crowded you could hardly move, it was nearly impossible to breathe not to mention there wasn't even refreshing air conditioning anywhere!!!! On a humid day like today, It was just needed, with the amount of people and leaving the doors open letting all the hot air in. It's honestly extremely hazardous. The lines for legitimately everything were all at LEAST a half hour wait if not more, my boyfriend waited on a Starbucks line for 45 minutes, such a joke. Everything in there was a goddamn line, even walking around the booths and the entire area was like waiting on line, having to squeeze your way through herds of people. It felt like It's $50 dollars to enter and there's no much to do, and for the most part you're paying to get inside and pay for everything else inside. The panels are always at "capacity" and unless you get there first thing in the morning when it opens and wait around there all day for whatever is going on to take place you won't be able to be there for it. The most enjoyable part for me was being able to look through some comics, watch an artist draw superhero's with copic markers and all the incredible cosplay. read more

COMIC CON = NEW YORK CITY GEEKS UNITE!!! NYCC 2013 was bigger and better than last year! I was very fortunate to have tickets for Saturday (and got hooked up for entry on Sunday) so I got to go on the two biggest days of the weekend. As you can infer from my event pictures, I was a costume girl this time (GO VIPER!) and had such an amazing experience. I met so many other cosplayers and other fellow geeks and it made this year so special to me. True, it's not as big as San Diego Comic Con but I think NYCC is fantastic in its own right. Here are Leslie's Standard Rules for Comic Con: -Clear out pictures on your phone beforehand so you can take a million more -Bring CASH just in case a vendor doesn't accept plastic -Bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at water fountains -Eat beforehand -Bring snacks -Make sure all fake guns have orange tips -If bringing a lot of stuff, utilize the bag check for only $3 -If in costume, bring a change of clothes so you can avoid a very uncomfortable cab ride home in full costume (this is where bag check comes in handy!) -Look at the list of vendors and guests beforehand so you don't almost miss an opportunity to meet your favorite author from childhood... -Also research the floor layout beforehand so you know where to go if you want to see a panel versus checking out artwork or gaming areas etc. -Be prepared to wait in line for the bigger panels like "The Walking Dead" -Accept that you will probably not be able to get any autographs unless you are at the very front of the panel room or are willing to wait over an hour for one -Wear comfortable shoes... I would say this mostly pertains to the ladies but I saw a few fierce gentlemen who working heels like nobody's business! Overall, great second year of NYCC for me and I can't wait to go back again next year! Tickets sold out super fast this time around so I've learned my lesson... I'm going to just go ahead and buy the Three Day Pass for $65 since it's cheaper than buying Saturday and Sunday separately. Plus, in case something comes up where you will miss half a day (oh say, I dunno, a 20 mile run for example), you'll still have another full day to get your geek on. TILL NEXT YEAR.... stay geeky, my friends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On a side note, I don't understand why people are moaning and groaning about Comic Con on here and attacking those who attend it. I don't get it. It's a giant convention where people come to see and be seen in costumes plus relate to others over their love of My Little Pony, Transformers, Anime, computer games, TV shows, Star Wars, Star Trek, 90s cartoons etc. etc. If you're not into any of the things I just mentioned, then why the hell did you buy a ticket for this? Just so you could write a review on Yelp making negative remarks and sweeping generalizations about those of us who actually enjoy all of these things? Yeah, just stay home next time. Besides the will call line being long as hell (as expected) still had a blast. If you want more time inside, buy your tickets in advance so you don't have to wait. This was last minute for me, so I didn't have time to prepare an outfit. Perfect place for someone who loves people watching & super heroes. I loved the little kids in costumes, better than Halloween to me. The South Park 20th anniversary station was fun. I forgot about a lot of these characters until I went through this exhibit. If you're into the panels & stuff, you'll need a 2-3 day pass. If you just want to people watch & buy some cool merch, 1 day should be good enough. You definitely will be getting your 10,000 steps and then some for the day. So wear your comfortable walking shoes & be prepared to sit on the floor or a curb if your legs are tired. read more

Pro: The nerdiest yet most awesome thing an adult can do to feel like a kid again! This was my first time embarking on such an event. Truthfully, it can be a bit overwhelming if your "inner nerd" isn't fully developed, but that's a good thing. Virtually every bit of comic lure, anime, video game, and fantasy/role based gaming lives at this event! I had a few star-struck moments, i.e. "Hey, that's 'Dante' from the Kevin Smith movies!" and "Damn, I hate that we missed Billy Dee Williams, but I'm glad he's back in the new Star Wars movie!" I also had a few learning moments--by the way, never confuse Attack on Titan with Promised Neverland! But I digress... I witnessed gamers gaming, Cosplayers bonding, and parents acting like their kids. Good times. Con: Even on Sunday, aka "the slow day", it was packed! Also, the scheduled guests mostly show on Fridays and Saturdays. I missed Paul Rudd and Tom Hiddleston. I'll catch you next time, Loki! Bottom Line: Solidify your inner nerd's power with an event like this! read more

How to have a great time at Comic Con: 1) Have patience. There are lines and they are long. There are also queues for the panels and you may or may not get a wristband. Deal with this and move on. 2) Bring a camera. No, not the one on your phone. A camera. You want HQ images of these fantastic costumes. 3) Wear comfortable shoes. Ladies, if you must wear heels for your costume, bring a change of footwear. 4) Bring cash. The ATMs charge you your first born child so bring cash and prepare to spend it. 5) Bring food. This is allowed and will also save you a ton of money. Including a water bottle that you can refill just about anywhere. 6) Try to come all 4 days (or at least 3 of them). Trying to pack everything into 1 day is damn near impossible. With that said, NYCC is a blast! There are panels, a screening area if you didn't get into the panel of your choosing, and TONS to see. Every nook and crannie of the Javits Center is used to house costumes, stages, toys, comic books, etc. It's fun to walk around and happen to see Batman. It's fun to play video games that have not yet been released. You make new friends as you're all crowded together. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The staff. Most of them are volunteer and you can tell they really don't care about their job. They will tell you 10 different things. Figure it out on your own and navigate the Javits Center without any employee assistance. Other than that, this is a great time even if you're not a huge comic book fan. It's also an excuse to walk around Manhattan dressed as a character, weeks before Halloween. read more

As crowded and hectic as Comic Con is, I'm surprised I don't hate it. Me + Large Crowds = Unhappy Camper, almost one hundred percent of the time. But Comic Con attendees are not the annoying, shoulder bumping, body rubbing, hot breath on your neck kind of crowd. People are actually civilized, thank goodness. I was introduced to Comic Con 6 years ago, when I met my boyfriend. My boyfriend and his best friends are huge nerds. I know nothing but the basics about few comics, mangas, animes, marvel and DC movies- things of that nature. But I'm so glad to be a part of their nerdy world. Now I go to Comic Con with them every year. I even want to dress in cosplay at some point. There is literally a million activities to do at this convention; speed dating, panels (I went to an Adventure Time panel and met the cast, YAY), celebrity autograph signings, it's WILD. Last year I saw people watching the first episode of Walking Dead Season 4, and I believe it was before it aired on TV! Trust me, you will find something to like about Comic Con. I recommend attending at least once in your life. One day I will make my way over to Comic Con San Diego! read more

Reedpop (the promotional company for NYCC) always seems to go out of their way to eff us ticket buyers up, year after year. Be it the extra step in the registration process... or their newest monkey wrench, the sale and purchase of single day passes only, ugh. What will they think of next?? In addition to the logistical pitfalls, it's easy to see that NYCC hardly commands the same star studded lineup that its San Diego iteration is privy to. Guess that's the benefits of having easy access to Hollywood (doubt NYCC will ever see a guest panel featuring Earth's mightiest heroes)... but that's not to say that NYCC doesn't put together some panels with amazing geekdom credibility. For all the pitfalls that NYCC has, at the end of the day you will have a great time here. Whether you be donned in your custom-crafted cosplay outfit, or suit up with t-shirts with some of the most esoteric of nerdy references... you can rest assured that there will be something here to whet your whistle (or tickle that nerdy funny bone of yours.... that sounded a bit dirty, didn't it). So be ready to bust out your phones, because I'm fairly certain you'll be lighting up your social media with pictures and videos of the glorious nerd-dom going on for the duration of the convention. Heck, if you decide to dress yourself up as well, don't be surprised if you have people going up to you and requesting that they have pictures taken with you (or more accurately, a picture of the costume you've dressed yourself up with). They do allow you to re-enter the convention, so feel free to go out and about the immediate vicinity (it's safe, don't worry). You'll notice plenty of other people wandering about too, gloriously displaying their outfits to a bewildered public. This is especially true if you have to venture closer to Madison Square Garden, if you plan on attending some panels at the satellite locations (i.e. the aforementioned MSG, or the Hammerstein Ballroom). It's fun to see the reactions of other people who have no idea what's going. While we're on the topic, the satellite locations tend to have tighter security, and will not allow outside food or drink; I'm sure the same standards apply to the main convention at the Javits Center, but it appears that event security there is more lax; makes sense (at least for MSG), who hire out their own security for their facilities. Overall, this will probably be one of the nerdier things you can do in NYC. Be loud, be proud, be nerdy AF. read more

First time at Comic Con and I was very overwhelmed by the whole experience. My family called me the morning of the event to see if I wanted a free ticket...and of course...I always say YES! Although I truly admired everyone's effort on their costumes (which was the highlight of the day), the event itself was a total mess. As my cousin puts it, "It's the nerdiest flea market you'll ever go to." Haha, very true! I honestly had to take an intermission break in the middle of the event to grab a beer. The IDs were pretty high tech. When you come in and out of the event, a staff member would scan your ID on an iPad. Try to come early to sign up for the panels, I was definitely not able to. Jennifer Morrison and Lucy Liu were both at the event this year. read more
