I requested to speak directly with the owner, Jessica, but instead received a call saying they had decided not to proceed with my appointment because I had questioned the price and the hair color. Despite expressing full trust in her professional judgment and confirming that I still wanted the service, she told me I was "not a fit" and abruptly canceled everything. This is not how you treat a new client, especially someone trying to settle in a new country and looking for a reliable salon. The experience was unnecessarily rude, unprofessional, and frankly, upsetting. I was refunded, but I will never return--and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone seeking respectful and trustworthy service.

I recently went to Kellen's salon for a color correction. I have only been a bleach and tone for the past 6 years but I took a break for a year. I made an appointment for a color correction to platinum blonde. I paid $475 + tip at my appointment for a color correction and hair cut (this was discounted from $525. I think because of the result of my hair.) They did also give me a free bottle of purple shampoo. This was nice but not necessary to make me feel better about the results. My appointment in total took 7hrs (It has never taken more than 5 hrs for a color correction and I have fairly short hair and an undercut). During my appointment 3 other clients were taken and I felt like I was left for very long periods of time without checking on my hair. I feel like for the price I would expect a little more attention to watching my processing. When my hair was done it was a very bright very yellow color with obvious bands. The top and underneath were two different colors. My hair was extremely fried and there was a ton of breakage. This has never happened once when bleaching my hair. I also asked for a bob haircut that turned out extremely uneven. The next day I messaged for a correction to my toner and they did promptly schedule me and did not charge me for the correction. I have to say I still was not satisfied with the outcome of the correction and it was still extremely uneven in color with a prominent band. The stylist doing my hair seemed to not know how to properly correct it. Another hairstylist (first day at the salon) advised them on most of the correction. She also was not able to fix my bob haircut and the new stylist had to take over to correct it (I would like to emphasize that the new hairstylist did a fantastic job on my haircut!) Lastly, for the service I received I think my appointment was extremely overpriced. Most of the reasoning for the price was due to the high rent in the building and the cost of the product. While I understand that, I think the price should reflect the skill and ability of the stylist. Rent and product should be considered in the price but not the bulk of what I was paying for. I have attached pictures of my hair after the second appointment, my hair before the appointment and my goal photo (my goal photo was my hair 4 years ago so I know it was achievable or at least in the realm of being close to that color)

Customer service here was subpar, which is usually expected with these type of businesses (Asian-owned in predominantly Black areas). I was not greeted upon entry. Fortunately, I wasn't followed around. They had a decent variety of products; however, not as much as Richway or even Beauty 21 (which isn't Black-owned, but the store has a large variety and I'm usually greeted). Prices here are about the same as most beauty supply stores. You need to purchase $5 worth of products to use a credit/debit card. I was thanked for my purchase, but not told to have a good day. I probably won't return unless I absolutely needed something and couldn't make it out to Richway or even Beauty 21 in time. I would have preferred to spend my money at Richway.

But while on my route, I came across this beauty store... This store located in an almost vacant shopping area. I believe Farm Fresh was located here and with it no longer occupying the space, this area looks like a ghost town. Aside from the beauty supply store there is maybe one or two other stores in the corner of the shopping area. Nevertheless, my baby and I decided to check them out. The amount of cars in the parking lot suggested that maybe one or two people were inside, but when we stepped foot inside, there were at least 10 people inside. I thought, this place must be kinda popular. We visited on a late afternoon and was impressed by how neat the store was set up. We did find what we were looking for... I asked an associate about some other hair I was looking for... Either she wasn't familiar or ... I don't know. But I ended up spotting what I was looking for and showed the associate what I was referring to. Overall, if I am in the area I may stop by again to fully check out the store.
