    General Tso's Chicken

I'm on the hunt for the best General Tso in CLT. Unfortunately New York Restaurant only gets 3 stars. The texture isn't good. Too much breading and kinda spongey. The flavor was fine, but I just can't get past the texture.

same planet, different world: apparently tables in a chinese takeout is a carolina thing... and dining in too? four for four on the tally. probably the best chinese take out I've had in the south, crab rangoons are properly pinched across the corners and well filled with a crabby cream cheese fluff leaving some room on top for hot mustards :-) lunch-size kung pao chicken is really just too much of a good thing paired with a generous serving of fried rices: green peppers, bamboo shoots, baby corns, water chestnuts, and chickens and peanuts and stuff in a light gravy (plus mushrooms) is just like mother used to order out. fried rice is exactly that and stands up well to being served omelet-style in the finest tradition. ...and an egg roll :-)

    a bug

I took the food back and the lady takes the bug and squish it in between her fingers and said it was a piece of the mushroom.

Not a fan. Barely edible. Meal had no peppers, rice was mushy. Chicken had odd shapes and texture.

Good cheap Chinese food, large portions. Always a favorite nearby option. Crab Rangoon here are probably some of my favorite in the area.

Over time though, maybe exacerbated by Covid like so many other things, the food went way downhill. I am really happy to report that not only is it back on top. Kind of reminded me of the texture of spanakopita in a bun. They were generously filled and delicious. Yangzhou fried rice had a mix of scallops, shrimp, chicken and veggies. Portion was huge, husband could barely finish it. I ordered spicy wonton in chili oil, and mini spare ribs in black bean sauce dim sum. Loved them both. Seasonings and spice level were perfect. I'd order those again. We also got a selection of dumplings - pork and veggie shumai, steamed potstickers, and crystal shrimp dumplings. Loved all of them. I love the relaxed vibe here. Our server was attentive, professional and gave us space to enjoy our meal with minimum interruptions. We were greeted when we arrived and she waved goodbye when we left. While dining, I saw quite a number of takeout orders picked up by customers and dashers, which is something we'll definitely do in the future. The dining area and bar are in one big room with huge windows that make the space feel spacious and light. Even tho it's one big room, tables aren't crammed together. Music is low enough to talk at normal volume. We really enjoyed our first time here, plan to eat here again and highly recommend it if you haven't been.

I went back to my car and looked up reviews before driving away. Most of the reviews were good. At that moment, I made a decision: "We're going in!" Even though 'we' is just me. Don't judge; I'm sure you do the same from time to time: consciously or subconsciously. I ordered a Quart of Wonton Soup (very exciting) and Roast Pork Lo Mein (pretty cool). The wait was 10-15 minutes and I paid ahead of time. It was $16 and change but the woman behind the counter stared with great anticipation if i would leave a tip. If I could go back, I wouldn't. For what? They're already marking up prices and this part was strange. Not a fan. Fortunately, the food was good. There were only five wontons (quart usually has 6-8) but it was very good!) The Roast Pork Lo Mein was also strong. It actually had too much Roast Pork for me. At this location, I might just get Chicken Lo Mein next time. But I have been seeing more TikToks with chickens on farms and they're pretty chill so maybe just Lo Mein. I would eat from here again. Hope that helped!

The atmosphere and service made the experience even better. I would definitely come back again and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal!
