I took my car to get transmission changed. The owners where very nice and professional. I had to take the car back to get programmed. They weren't able to program it but their people made sure they stole my sunglasses and airmoto. When I called to put in the complaint I got the answering machine. Left a message of what happened and no one ever returned my call and my car was never fixed. I have a 1965 Thunderbird convertible. The car is fully detailed and is "my baby". I fix everything that my car needs right away and the rear seal on my transmission started to leak. First and foremost, I have to credit the 20 reviews prior to mine. I went to New York Transmission Group to have my car repaired because of those 20 prior reviews. I went to NYTG on a Saturday morning due to a transmission fault code. Arriving at the shop, I saw mechanics and cars being worked on. I went directly to the office on the left side of the building. Jeff, the president of NYTG, said a scan and road test was necessary to do a preliminary diagnosis on the car's transmission. After the road test, Jeff assessed the transmission had an electrical issue and would need to be left at the shop for further diagnosis. I left the car there and got a ride back. By Monday afternoon, NYTG contacted me and explained some broken wires could be the source of the problem. By Tuesday afternoon, NYTG contacted me and said my car's had been repaired. By Wednesday morning, I picked up my car and drove to my commute. As far as I can tell, the people at NYTG are honest, hardworking people. Their reputation is solid and a fantastic model for local businesses to follow. I wish them continued success. My car started to make a horrible grinding sound and after doing some research, I found the stellar recommendations of NYTG and brought in my car. Their shop appears extremely busy. Initially they thought it was the catalytic converter, so we left the car for further testing. After a few days, there were able to take a closer look at the car. It turned out to be an oil leak which ended up being a much less expensive repair. We felt extremely comfortable with this shop, they explained everything clearly, and the fact that the ultimate solution was much less expensive than their preliminary evaluation attests to their honesty and integrity. Well, I will be honest. The staff was responsive, work took 2-3 weeks. It is a transmission. All good. Price for me stuck me good. Folks it is a transmission. My key was lost in the work but the staff gave me 50 bucks back for another key. Thought 7-11 was the only place to get another replacement key and they obliged that was great. The transmission itself? Oh my good lord it was like I was and still am driving a new car!!! Stellar work, pricey but far reached the warranty terms which is all I wanted to prove a point. I was having some car problems (entire car was shaking, "Service Engine Soon" light came on/flashing and most of the acceleration power was gone), and also I was hearing screeching of metal-n-metal coming from one of my front wheels and the brakes were being a little janky so I went to my usual mechanic. They hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and both codes that came back were transmission codes. They don't handle transmission jobs but referred me to a guy out in L.I. who is a transmission specialist and told me that he usually gives referrals a hook-up with an extended warranty as well as would come and get the car towed to his shop. So my mechanics speak to the guy in L.I and give him the diagnostic codes. He comes back and says it's definitely the transmission and that in his shop they just get a new transmission from the dealer and swap it out. When I asked about the price, the guy in L.I. told quoted me $4000 + another $200-$300 if the computer on the new transmission wasn't programmed and had to have someone from the dealer come in. On top of that, there was no special extended warranty, "Just the manufacturer's one-year warranty", and I would have been responsible for covering the entire cost of the tow. Because of all this, I started looking local and shopping around. From the very start, Cary was very straightforward with me and personable during our 10 -minute conversation. He said that they specialize in transmission rebuilds and if anything is wrong with the transmission they would go that route. He told me that sometimes engine issues can mask transmission problems and found it odd that the "Service Engine Soon" light was on with no engine codes. He told me that if it was an issue with the transmission that it would not be as expensive as the quotes I got for getting a brand-new transmission and talked to me about some alternatives. He also said that regardless of where I end up going, it would be ill-advised to take the word of someone who hasn't actually gotten their hands on and driven the car. He then offered to run his own diagnostic check and take it for a spin to see if they can pinpoint what was wrong. The following day I get the car over to NYTG. Cary is very friendly and accommodating and we even cracked a few jokes. After about 20 minutes, the diagnostic check and drive is done- now 3 codes are showing (the two transmission codes and now one engine) and the mechanic who drove it said it seems like it could be a misfiring cylinder or similar thing. Cary tells me that he wants to take care of the engine issue first and then move on to the transmission. He graciously asked me how I was planning on getting back home and told me that his driver was going to take a trip and could drop me off if I didn't mind waiting an hour or so. I was a little taken aback as I never have been offered a complimentary ride at any mechanic before, but I opted to take an Uber back. After a few days, he calls to tell me that one of the cylinder coils was dead and also suggested replacing the spark plugs and giving the car a tune-up. I agreed and after a few more days he said that the engine issues were fixed, and there are no longer any transmission codes. What it cost to fix the engine was about 1/6th of what I was quoted for the transmission (and what could have potentially just been switched out when the issue wasn't even with the transmission, had I ended up going to the guy in L.I.). Cary also told me that while the car was up on the lift they saw the brake issue and told me flat-out, "Your front brakes are completely shot- it's just metal rubbing on metal, you have a broken caliper on one and I'm surprised that you haven't gotten into an accident with how bad this is". I did already know about and was planning on getting the brakes fixed but was going to have it done at my usual mechanic once the engine/transmission problems were taken care of. Cary did also say, "Since we have the car here already I can take care of it, though I honestly wouldn't feel right about giving you the care in this state because of how dangerous it is" but did give me the option to go elsewhere. I asked Cary if he could just do the repairs. Several days later Cary gave me a call and told me the car was fixed, but did say that his driver was off that day but could try to arrange for a pickup which again was unheard of to me, but I again took an Uber. Cary did say to keep an eye on things over the next hundred or so miles and if anything comes up, to let him know and he'll take another look. So after getting the engine and brakes taken care of I still ended up paying less than half of what I was quoted on the transmission at the other locations and the car has been running great. I really appreciate the honesty and customer service experience I got from NYTG and I would highly recommend them!!! read more

All the work was done clean and neatly, they explained all work that needed to be done prior to fixing it. I actually found this repair shop on yelp and reading the reviews made me gravitate to them , I needed a transmission for my 2000 Honda Odyssey for the second time around and these guys noticed someone hands had worked on it and they didn't do a good job . I gave these guys a shot and they knocked the ball out the stadium. My van is riding like 2019 not that I rode in one before but you get what I mean. Turned to K&B after the transmission completely failed in our 2015 Hyundai Elantra. They were really helpful over the phone, got all my information and arranged for the tow truck - even calling to confirm they'd received the car once it arrived. Can't remember whether it was Jeff or Cary (the work was done almost 2 years ago), but they explained exactly what was wrong with the car and why we'd need to completely replace the transmission, and then made every effort to get us the most economical solution. While the final cost came in at roughly the same that was quoted elsewhere, they were very helpful and informative throughout the process and it was clear they had thoroughly researched all my options and gone the extra mile to make sure we got the best solution.
