I volunteered to become a foster parent. I fostered 3…read morekittens that were orphans. Sharon the owner/the woman who runs this shelter told me that the "family" that dropped them off were completely unreachable. So she asked me to foster them. The day I picked them up I expressed openly that I would want to adopt them (being as they were orphans). One employee and the previous foster mom who passed them to me told me that was possible. Over 3 weeks later we received a phone call from Sharon saying that she had made a mistake and that the family wanted them all back. After the fact that several foster homes raised them during the difficult stages. Of course this was very upsetting and heartbreaking to me and my family. Come to find out she wasn't being truthful about the situation. We were told that it was 1 family that was out of town on a vacation to Europe. But the truth came forth that it wasn't 1 family but yet 3 different people. We have no idea what was in it for her financially but this seemed wrong. I received thereafter a phone call from the police dept. telling me that she was stating that me and my family had stolen these kittens. Demanding their return. This came as an incredible shock to us and our children. Who has done nothing but love, and care for these babies for weeks! My children are devastated to have to have said goodbye to 3 sweet souls that they grew to love. With reluctance we arranged a time and day to return them to her care, to avoid any legal issues. She then proceeded to accuse us of not returning the correct kittens. Again I received another call from the police dept. I just want anyone and everyone to be VERY aware of this shelter and this woman before considering adopting from them. My understanding of a shelter is to give animals a loving home and keep them off the streets. Obviously this is not her/their intent. My want to help and foster has been completely tarnished and I am now scared to ever try and help again. We hope that every animal in need finds a loving home and we would hope that this entire staff of people will find their way back to the intent of this business.....

Incredibly disappointed in this rescue. My partner and I saw a dog online that we were interested…read morein and filled out an application. We requested a low energy dog and was told the one we were interested in was like this. His ad mentioned some training required but that he was otherwise laid back. The shelter told us he was only leash reactive. This was not the case. We brought the dog home and he was high energy and needed an incredible amount of training. Most notably he was highly reactive, which requires special training, and we were never informed he was like this. Reactive dogs can turn aggressive if it is not dealt with. His vet records, which were only given to us after his adoption, showed that he had a long history of reactivity and being on anti-anxiety medication that we were never told about. We reached out to the shelter for help 3 days after bringing the dog home and they didn't respond. It wasn't until we told the shelter that the dog was not a fit for our family that they responded, 2 days after our initial request. The shelter then told us we had to wait 9 more days before we could return the dog to their care, even after requesting a sooner date because he was causing a lot of stress to our household. When we returned the dog, the associate did not let us inside, and took his leash from my hand. I asked if we needed to fill out any intake paperwork. She said no so I asked if we could fill out paperwork because there was a lot of information they didn't tell us about the dog. She said no again, said there wasn't anything else they needed from us, and shut the door in our face. We had to wait nine days for an intake appointment that lasted less than a minute and required nothing but us passing over his leash. This was after we explained the amount of distress he was causing our dogs and the safety risk he posed due to his energy level and my partner's disability. It is clear that the shelter does not care where their dogs end up. This was an incredibly stressful 2 weeks for both my family and the dog because the shelter was not honest about his personality. This dog needs to be with a very specific household, and based on everything we told them about ourselves, we were not it. It seems it was more important to them that he was adopted by somebody, rather than him being adopted by the right family who could provide him what he needs. He suffers the most in this situation.

The screening process was thorough, but easy to navigate. Everything was straight forward and we appreciated they already scheduled his surgery to be neutered, which was included in the adoption fee. All the staff and volunteers we meet there were so wonderful. You could tell how genuinely they cared and loved animals. We adopted our pup right at opening time on a weekday which made it really easy and it wasn't busy yet. Highly recommend adopting a dog from Oregon dog rescue.

Got an amazing 5-year-old female German Shepard about 4 months ago. The moment we met, I knew we…read morewould be good for each other. The person who helped me was great and knew everything about her. It was so easy, just fill out a little paperwork, pay, and take the animal home. Getting my dog was the best thing I have done for myself in years. From the first night she gets on my bed and sleeps at my feet. I have PTSD from the Army, and when I have nightfrights she always comes to me and gives me comfort. She it atuned to my emotions. I take care of her, and she takes care of me. The ODR is the best place to get a companion animal or to give a donation. Thay care about the animals enough to make sure it's going to be a good match. If you need or want an animal friend, go see the animals at ODR. I'm sure they will help you and you will not be disappointed.

I was concerned that cold and detached staff or volunteer members didn't give me any incentive to return. I have not. With such pressing needs for this facility, and a dependency upon the county and donations for funding, the administration responsible for the use of funds- the way it's run and staffed (for starters) needs improvement. It's just a job .. prerequisites should require compassionate, kind staff - to animals and respect for people coming through their doors.

I got a prompt response from Furry Friends. They are extremely organized, kind and great organization. They asked appropriate and responsible questions and asked for my vet and a reference. The kitten I saw online had been adopted, but we got to spend time in a cat playroom with her 2 siblings and choose. The kitten we adopted had been fostered in a home with cats, dogs and kids and is awesome. ( very well socialized and we love him) I had some questions about the vet records and volunteers got back to me quickly. They were patient and gave me great advice on how to socialize the new kitten with our current cat as well. Great organization.

It is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization and one of the only area shelters with facilities for geriatric and feline leukemia positive (FeLV+) cats. House of Dreams has a medical unit for cats who need separate living quarters while undergoing treatment too. The facility is entirely dependent upon donations, grants and events for funding. Volunteers work every day, 365 days each year, to clean and maintain the shelter, feed and look after resident kitties and those looking for their forever homes. No kitty is turned away. All cats have been spayed or neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, and are current on vaccinations, plus any additional dental and medical care the cats may need are taken care of during their stay. Every November "The Pretty Kitty Holiday Bazaar" is held and features handmade gifts for people and pets. An amazing raffle is held that is the highlight of the event. May I suggest that you use them when entering dog adoption kennels. The kennels can get very noisy. 2) Meet and greet areas are available for you to get up close and personal with the dogs. 3) One of the keys to a successful dog adoption is finding one whose energy level matches your own. A high energy dog and medium to low energy owner is not a good match. 4) Basic obedience training is a very, very good thing. Believe me, you don't want to be the one chasing your happy-go-lucky dog down a busy street after it got loose! The recall command (come) can literally save your dog's life.

Unfortunately out of my home she is so other dog aggressive she can't really go anywhere. She even jumped out of the window of my moving truck to attack a dog walking down the street. I called there behavior pet line twice asking for help with her behavior. They return the call, act like they care and say the will get back to me. Then they never follow up. About the age, the vet said she is more like 2. I cannot recommend this shelter.
