Princess' dad and I divorced this last spring and I moved Princess from a house with cats to a petless home. Her dad is keeping the furry kids with him, for reasons that make sense.I didnt mind the lack of vomit, pee, or poop. But. This left my beast loving Princess pining for furry or scaly companionship. We explored the idea of a reptile...I'm just not a reptile person. I tried to get over it, no, just no. So while Princess complained, pined, demanded, cried, attempted emotional blackmail, wheedled and begged, I scoured the local shelter listings for our new cat friend. Ive never really gotten to choose my own feline before. They chose me or were foisted upon me. Just this time I wanted one that called to me. Found him.His picture spoke to me. No. It really did!! He was living here at Animal Aid for the last five months after being moved from Multnomah County Animal Services . Ive had past connections ( a friend adopted two cats here) with Animal Aid and I actually appreciate their somewhat stringent adoption practices. Our kitty was described as misunderstood with a lot of character...Im really good at animals with big personality. Really. I showed Princess his picture and profile on the website. Awwwwww!! Can we go tomorrow??he needs us!! So we did. And we fell hard. We filled out our application and they called our two references, our property manager, and our vet and this weekend he moved in. They very helpfully hung onto him for a few days while we went out of town for a previously planned vacation. The volunteer adoption counselor brought him here with accessories and paperwork and it was clear both she and the staff wanted him to have a great home. He does. We LOVE him already. My daughter was blissful that he slept on the foot of her bed last night. Its a great match. Do check them out if youre looking for a rescue animal. Dont let their rules daunt you. Theyre not snooty or weird, really, they just want their animals to have a permanent loving family and do what they can to make that happen. There isnt anything bad about that. P.s. All the animals are spayed/neutered, up to date on their vaccinations, have had vet care, and are microchipped.

Excellent shelter and adoption center. I got my cat here years ago and she's my best friend :) Animal Aid made sure to take great care of her before I took her home, like making sure she was spayed and up to date on shots, as well as personally dropping her off. They had loads of helpful information on taking care of cats, like recommending food and veterinary clinics. They even gave me a run down on what her favorite activities are! The application process was incredibly easy and stress-free too, which was appreciated as a first time pet owner. Thank you everyone, and Maisie says hi!

Animal Aid is unlike any shelter I've been to because all the dogs and some of the cats are in foster care. The cats that are on site live in community rooms. There are no rows of depressing steel cages. Instead the cats get to run around, play with toys or nap in the sunshine. The Animal Aid staff members care deeply about the cats' welfare and are always seeking ways to improve the shelter. As a new volunteer, I've witnessed several extremely shy cats come out of their shells and become more adoptable. Please take a look at the cats (and dogs!) online at http://www.animalaidpdx.org/ or visit the shelter if you're interested in adopting a pet from a worthy organization.

Great animal rescue group with a dedicated staff and group of volunteers, of which I have been one for 19 years.

I brought in a beautiful little songbird that I raised from a hatchling until it was nine days old…read moreI decided it would be best to turn it over to the Audubon Society because they could help it to learn how to eat on its own and then release it. It was in perfectly good health. I brought it in on a Sunday. I will attach a picture. They never called me or emailed me even though I marked the box to be notified and I kept calling for 2 weeks and finally one of their reps that I will not use her name called. She said when you brought the bird in it was dehydrated and was found dead the next morning. This bird was eating so well I was feeding it mealworms crickets and also a liquid mash. I fed it very well before I dropped it off and it was an excellent health. Less than 24 hours later it was dead. She then admitted that 31 birds were brought in that day and they have volunteers that follow protocols. That meant there were too many birds and mine did not get its food on time and basically they did not feed it or give it liquids on time. It then got dehydrated and could not recover. I have a video of the day that I left. the bird This was not a dehydrated, weak bird. they were understaffed and did not let me know. I told them the day of the drop off I that I was doing a great job with this bird and the only reason I was dropping it off was so that it could learn to be with other birds. All they had to say is we are taking in too many birds today and since your bird is doing well with you maybe it's best to continue to work with it but instead they admitted it and they could not keep up and it died. I was also told these things happen. Well when you put your love into a little bird and get up every hour to two hours to feed it around the clock for nine days and watch it grow all its feathers and starting to learn how to fly and eat you bond with it and you care and it's not just another little Bird. It's the bird that I loved and put all of my energy into it while taking care of Family, horses, dogs, and cats that are all rescues. I've been in the Vet industry for 26 years and I know what it's like to be short staffed and when we could not take more, we would at least let people know that we're at our capacity and give them the option to make decisions. Some of us are very good caring for animals and are just trying to do the right thing so that the bird can go free. Be honest about the situation and not be flippant about a small bird passing away. My bird was not injured in anyway and it was looking wonderful. This is very sad and a disturbing situation. It will stay with me forever.

my daughter is traumatized by this facility her thoughts…read moreand feelings right here.Today I got some heart breaking news that sent me into a RAGE, that made me shake right as my lunch break ended and for the next 30min I worked and quietly cried until I had to hide in the bathroom stall at work. My SWEET baby raccoons. The night I gave them to this "rescue" I had nightmares all night, seriously I did. I even jump awoke from what I thought I heard was one of the babies crying in my ear, I heard it plane as day as if he was laying on chest. Now I know why.. they came to me to tell me my nightmare wasn't a nightmare but a vision of what happened to them. THEY WERE KILLED by the people that told me they would take care of them. And I say killed bcuz if something doesn't have to die but you make it die it's killing. I know one possibility 2 of them weren't going to make it but I knew for a fact 2 of them were just fine so for them to first tell me that they were ill is bullshit 2 of them had all the energy to keep crawling out of their home and crawl 50ft from their tree up 2 stairs to my front door and then walk into my house. They had the will to drink off a bottle I was giving them with kitten replacement milk, they had the energy to play together, they had the will to survive even tho their mother had abandoned them. They came to me for help, And I mistakenly went to the wrong place. I called this "care facility" before going there and you can only leave a voicemail and they call u back so explained the circumstances and a women called me back and she TOLD ME DIRECTLY that she got my voicemail and she told the staff about the message and they were looking forward to being able to take care of these babies! She lied.. not only was the lady not even at the facility she's a volunteer taking phone calls off site but they never had the means to even care for them. When I arrived at the "care facility" the lady that took them back SAID DIRECTLY TO MY FACE that they were going to give them fluids and make sure they were ok and then transfer them to an actual rescue SHE SAID AND I QUOTE "you came to the right place this is the first stop to getting them rehabilitated to be released back into the wild" SHE LIED Now I know some of you are probably thinking it's a raccoon there's hundreds of them and they carry disease and who really cares they aren't like a pet dog or cat. But let me tell you something if something is fighting and reaching out for help no matter what or who it is do you just say no you don't deserve to live. And it's not just the fact that they killed them. THEY LIED about everything first it was they were sick and to weak, then it was cuz they carry disease, then it was they don't offer care to this type of species.. and for one these babies and their mama have been LIVING INSIDE the tree that is INSIDE my dogs outside kennel, if they carry such bad disease why haven't my dogs gotten sick they were at least a few weeks old and mom had to of only been gone 2days I cuddled them for 4hrs I am not sick my son held them he is not sick my cats sniffed at them they are not sick.. WHY WHY did they lie to me in the first place first when I called, or again when I arrived there. THE LIES and the cruelty to kill these babies that came to me to help them because they wanted to live. And these people knew the moment I called them and the moment I dropped them off that they were gonna kill them and they lied to my face. Why why did they lie and why do they call themselves a wild life care facility if they don't care! I wanna know what animals they do treat cuz they don't take in birds of any kind they don't take raccoons or deer or most mammals so wtf are they providing care for!?? I am not a very emotional person but when it comes to animals that have no voice to speak for them selfs and they are treated so poorly I get emotional animals have feelings they have the right to live just as anyone does... what makes their life any less worth of saving! Please share this so the world is aware of what this place really is and other animals that are fighting to survive don't end up with the same fate as my babies did. These raccoons weren't in distress as they said they were.this place needs to be looked into by the BBB and shut down.
