I adopted my best friend some fifteen years ago while doing small volunteer work for ODR. I had recently lost both of my Doxies and had no intention of adopting another. Long story short, I did. Jenell was nothing but nice to me, and she literally gave me a new lease on life. I recently lost my friend after many years of great companionship and mutual admiration. Yes....she has tight guidelines I guess, but can you blame her? I look forward to rescuing another dog soon once I am ready, and I have nothing but admiration for ODR and it's many volunteers.

I can't say enough about the incredible experience I had with Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc. When circumstances forced me to re-home my beloved dog, Girffy, they stepped in with an abundance of love and kindness. April, in particular, went above and beyond, sending me regular updates and heartwarming pictures that assured me Griffy was in caring hands. Their dedication resulted in finding Griffy a fantastic new home, and I'll forever be grateful for their compassion and unwavering support during a challenging time. Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc. is a shining example of what animal rescue should be. Much love and appreciation, Lisa Paul Junction city, OR

We adopted our sweet Keta From ODR in January 2022. Ginny, our contact at ODR, made the adoption smooth and easy. We love our quirky little girl.

We used Tails and Trails 3 times with mixed results. Important to know- you create detailed notes with the owner (Jeff) on how to access your building, routines, where leashes are, etc., etc., when you have your introductory visit. Our instructions ask that the handler only feeds the cats their canned food, nothing else. 1st time, week-long trip (June 2024)- handlers were 2+ hours late regularly. While this wasn't the biggest issue, we don't have a doggie door and that level of lateness pushed the pup's bathroom breaks longer than we're comfortable. But, we liked the service offered and adjusted how often we scheduled handler visits for the second and third visits. 2nd time, 1 week of walks while both of us were gone for longer than 8 hours (September 2024)- Great! Annie (I'm not disclosing employees' full names for their privacy) had no problems and was very helpful. 3rd time, overnight away- 4 visits requested: Sat afternoon and evening; Sun am and afternoon (October 2024)- Day 1- We left the house at 8 am and scheduled feeding/walk visits for about 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Around 1:25 pm, Chloe (office manager) texted me to ask if we had scheduled for 7:00 am that day. When we said we hadn't, a communication between Chloe and a handler led to the 1:00 pm visit being skipped. We talked with Chloe that evening and she said the handler would roll the afternoon and evening visits together, apologized for the miscommunication between herself and the handler, and credited our account for the mistake (all great). The handler arrived around 7:00 pm. They had a difficult time accessing the building so Chloe texted us to say the handler would hang out for a little longer before leaving if they couldn't get access. Once they did get into the building, they couldn't find the food or leash. The access information, food instructions, and where the leashes are were all in the instructions. The handler fed the pets and took the pup for a 15-min potty break. Since we were only gone for a night, we didn't book anyone to stay overnight. We considered cutting the trip short and wish we had. Day 2- Oscar was our handler. We got notifications that both visits were completed and everything seemed to have gone smoothly. When we got home, a glass jar with cat treats had been taken from the closed closet and left open on the counter. When we got home, there were treats all over the counter and SHATTERED GLASS MIXED WITH TREATS all over the floor. All three cats had engorged stomachs. While Chloe apologized and said she'd speak with Oscar the next day, we didn't hear back from Tails and Trails' manager or owner. We'll be anxiously monitoring our furbabies for a few more days.

I messed up and had to change the date and they responded with "no problem, we adjusted, look forward to speaking to you." When we finally had our phone consultation both my husband and I fell in love with Ursula's bubbly personality and knowledge. She spoke to us about our dog's issues and made some suggestions for immediate help and then suggested a trainer for anxiety. But we wanted to make sure we could try with her first so we are setting up an in person as we feel she can definitely help us and our dog. They are responsive, understanding and truly care. Ursula listened carefully to our concerns and gave us great suggestions and feedback. So I cannot recommended them highly enough just based on that. BUT I know we will love her when we start training (and I'll definitely update my review!)

Ursula and Dennis, are not only dog whisperers but are easy to communicate with, quick to respond to any questions or concerns and are all around two of the nicest people we've met in Portland. They did not promise a "quick fix" but rather provided us with a foundation of rules and tools to help improve both our lives and Habibi's life. We enrolled Habibi in the Lodge & Learn program, and we could't be happier or more impressed with the results; he came out obedient, confident but still his goofy self. Honestly, we were anxious to to trust someone with our baby for an entire month but after speaking with Ursula on the phone, we felt confident he would be in good hands and that the Lodge and Learn program was the right fit for him. The transition from our home to their place, was the hardest part, but also went flawless and was executed perfectly. Once he was back at their place we constantly got pictures & texts to update us on his progress and they always felt like just a text or phone call away. They have continued to be impactful and available in Habibi's training once he has been home. He continues to grow and improve thanks to their love, training and guidance. The visible changes Habibi has shown speaks volumes to the program they run & the people they are. They have given so much love and attention to our guy & instilled confidence and happiness, and Habibi is truly a BETTER DOG! His ability to listen to commands, walk on a leash without pulling, or simply sitting at a park has brought so much happiness to my family. We will forever be thankful for the work The Better Dog Co, Ursula & Dennis have done for our lives & Habibi's life.
