I stopped in to buy gas over the weekend at the Jackson's in Newberg Oregon. I had to wait a bit…read morefor someone to pump the gas even though a woman in a reflective vest was sitting there by the ice cooler. The w oman finally came over and told me that I could pump my own. I thought that was illegal but apparently the law changed recently. The thing is, the woman told me I was sitting in the not-self-service pump area which means that someone working there is supposed to pump my gas. However, she told me twice that I could just pump my own, even though I was not on the self-service side. She clearly expected me to stop bothering her so she could go back to sitting. I told her I wasn't interested in pumping my own. When you are dealing with self-service, you never know who used the pump last. Were their hands clean? Did they leave germs, feces, etc on the pump handle? Also, if I am dressed for work, I don't want to get gas or whatever else on my clothes. If I am parked at the not-self-serve pumps, then I have obviously made the choice to have someone pump my gas for me. And since there was an attendant on duty who was just sitting doing nothing, isn't that person supposed to be pumping the gas? Apparently the employee did not agree, and if this is the way things are going to go with Jacksons in the future, I will be shopping elsewhere.
