It's been awhile since I have not done my yearly check up.. so thought of going & finishing my yearly checkup. Appointment was very easy got it for next day with Dr Jessica Wang , had a wonderful experience with the Dr & the staff everything was explained very nicely the whole process went very smoothly . After the examination I decided to upgrade my glasses it was a nice experience never got pushed or pressured in buying .. took my time & finalize. I've been going to Newberry for many years and had my husband and kids come to. When Dr Newberry was seeing patients it was such a different vibe. Today I witnessed the lady at the front desk talking horrible about patients, sighing when calls came in, being rude to patients, and telling peers to misuse patient information, where the other person stated it could be a violation of how they are using patient information. She seems to be the office manager as she was talking about doing interviews. She should know better. You sit in the lobby are, we can hear you. If you are trash talking other patients or being annoyed when they call, we assume you'd do the same to us. There are other places to go, and I'll be looking. Makes me sad because I use to love this place and referred many people. read more

I was just there today for a check up. This was after other rounds of visits which scripts were prescribed with of course a follow up, so five appointment in all Today she prescribed as eye drop they had up in front case (in case someone wanted to steal them I guess). Anyway, it was 22.00 for one bottle 2.5 ml. I asked the girl upfront if they was an over the counter drug so she said yes, but more expensive and so I purchased it. So when I got home, I looked up the drops online (Amazon) and for two bottles, the cost was less that $22.00. What's with the add ons just to rip off their customers. BTW Dr Newberry is not there anymore. Looking for a new eye Dr next year. Too bad, I was a customer for about ten years. read more

They are a pure ripoff! I have 100% eye exam with my insurance but they think they can not go through insurance and charge me for not necessary and tell me I have good eyes but they have to charge for something! Do not respond newberry - nothing will be solved! Keep sending bills - you will not get one penny! Stay away and I will complain to insurance company to remove you! read more

My family and I have been patients for over 10 years and up until last year experienced no problems. This has changed into a nightmare recently and we will no longer be using their services. I'm not sure if it's new Dr's but whatever it is it isn't worth a 1 star. Thanks for the good times though. read more

Dr was sick, but they didn't let me know prior to arriving. Saw another Dr who was friendly. I wanted glasses, she recommended contacts, then charged me over $100 more. Contacts didn't work out, but they did not refund my money. Would not recommend. I will not return. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Newberry for about 15 years. I don't go every year like a good patient but Dr Newberry has ALWAYS been exceptionally caring and attentive to my needs. He truly cares. This time I saw his associate, Dr Ahres (probably spelling it wrong) and she mirrors his personal ethic for caring and personal attention. I cannot compliment them enough. I now live in Celina and it's still worth the drive to see professionals who truly care that my particular vision needs are met. They exceed my expectations. Thank you! Clear your schedule and sit back and relax because you will be waiting for a while! My appointment time was for 9:30 am, I will say my appointment started around 9:50 am, that is when a technician saw me. At 10:45 am I left because I had an appointment at 11:00 am and I still had not seen the optometrist yet. The facility is great, and the staff is kind and efficient, just not the best with managing and setting expectations of time or respecting it. So if you have time to wait, you are good to go! read more

I went to my primary care doctor for what I thought was an ear infection. She noticed my pupil was misshapen. I was immediately fair to Newberry vision Center and I saw Dr. Ahren. She suggested a few different things that she would like me to have blood work done to test for it. All three things came up. I am now being treated at the early stage of what could've been really bad. She was very compassionate and kind and extremely knowledgeable. I have been going to Dr. Newberry for many years. He has always been very nice and knowledgeable. Recently, I have seen Dr. Ahrens and she is wonderful! The optical office has worked with us many times on finding the right pair for our kids-the picky ones! I went to Dr. Newberry without having read up about him because he's the closest doctor to my office that takes my insurance, and I had to go at lunch. The staff was helpful in trying to fulfill my request that I get in and out in an hour, and seemed to have genuine empathy for my time constraints. The waiting area is pretty plush, this is McKinney after all, and the magazines dont suck (at my MDs office I get to choose from "North Texas Welder's Quarterly" and "Ferret Fancy"). The trick, and I should have learned this a long time ago, is to get a full price quote for everything on insurance and not on insurance before seeing the doctor. I was assured over the phone it would only cost my copay but after the appointment an extra $40 was magically tacked on to the final bill. I think this is good form for any sort of service or purchase, but make sure to ask. That $40 could have gone to a lot of martinis. read more

I've been going to Dr Newberry for a few years now, and he's probably the best eye doc I've been to. He's super nice, explains everything in great detail, and the assistants there are really great. 2 years ago (July 2010) I decided on getting LASIK, and consulted with Dr Newberry. He explained everything to me, how he uses Clearview Laser in Southlake, and exactly what goes on. The only negative experience about the whole process was, when he measured my cornea thickness, it was borderline for Intralase. He went over everything about Intralase with me, but never discussed PRK at all. The day of my surgery, Clearview told me PRK was the only option, since my entire cornea wasn't thick enough for Intralase. However, I was able to get Dr Newberry on the phone (he was back at the clinic) and he went over PRK with me right away. He assured me about it, and told me how I'd feel after. He was about right with his assessment too. I'm 2 years out and have 20/20 vision and absolutely love it. The job done between Dr Newberry and Clearview was amazing and I'd never imagine wearing glasses or contacts again! read more

Outstanding service received by Molly and rest of the optometry staff on recent purchase of prescription sunglasses. Had an issue with my end presription sunglasses after receiving them that were the fault of the manufacturer and the follow up from manufacturer was not great. Molly stayed on top of this issue, kept me informed and really pushed the manufacturer to address the issue. It seemed personal to her and the rest of the staff although the issue was out of their control and not a reflection of them. Molly and Newberry Vision were very diligent in remedying this situation, actually beyond my expectations and although it was not their fault they made sure to make it right for me. Very disappointed in Newberry Vision we have been a customer for years this year we received a call in the mail to make an appointment that card is postmarked April 6 I called the office and made appointments for the family and had our appointments on April 24 only to find out after the appointment was completed that my eye care insurance is not going to cover the visits as it must be 1 year between visits. My 1 year would be 5/1. Why was I not called when they verified my benefits and had the appointment moved till after 5/1??? This was 7 days after my appointment. Instead of paying $10 for my visit it cost me over 70 and the staff has absolutely no explanation and I've left messages for the office manager without a return phone call. read more

Took my son in today for his annual exam. Our vision coverage is 100% for a routine exam, which they did. They also did an Optomap Retinal Scan, which is not covered, without asking or even advising that there is an additional cost. They fit him with contact lenses, what they call Level 2, and charged us without explaining that they were not medically necessary. Additionally, even for elective lenses our coverage is more than they charged. Working with them now to correct the billing. We'll see. I'm extremely disappointed and not sure if this is "Scam" type behavior or just poor management. Future customers should beware! read more

First off, lets put this into perspective. Newberry is a great guy, unfortunately his staff has made me change views of his practice. Went through complete hell, multiple missed days of work due to incompetents of his staff and trying to fit my eyes for contacts. Finally went back to my original contacts. I have a contact script that expires 6/12/16 and I ordered one box for each eye cause I'm out. Ordered through Walgreens this past week,which Walgreens verifies the script with Dr. Newberry's office, which was denied by his wonderful staff with the explanation the script is expired. Not true, I have the script in front of me which proves different. Really sad when there is a good Optometrist with a horrible staff that makes him lose good people. read more

Her words and actions were unacceptable and after over 10 years of going to Dr. Newberry, I will find another optometrist where the entire staff is friendly. My son and I both go to NVC for our vision needs. We always have a great experience. Both doctors are professional and thorough. And the front office is also so helpful with my scheduling needs. My only complaint would be that they will not allow you to be more than 15 minutes late for your appointment or else you are forced to reschedule however, you might wait anywhere from 10-25 minutes before you are called back for your appt. Hmm, they won't wait for us but we have to wait on them??? read more

I didn't wait long before being seen. The exam seemed to be comprehensive and the doctor talked to me and answered all my questions without seeming to be in a hurry. Unfortunately, I have not had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Newberry and based on my recent experience I will be pulling all 7 family members from the practice. I tried multiple times (during booking and later confirming the appt, and in the office on my appointment day with the receptionist, technician "Ashley" and the 2 cashiers) to say that I did not want the retina scan for my 13-year old. They continued to force the service citing it was protocol to provide a retina scan - which they charge you for - and I could not get them to let me opt out of the service. It went so far that they sat my son in front of the retina scan machine as I was telling them I do not want the service. I literally had to tell my son to stand up and walk away from the machine to enforce my rights. Then I still could not get them to allow me to opt out of the service. So we walked out. You can't force someone to receive a service and furthermore charge them for that service as well. This is unethical and against your legal patient rights. If you do not want a service, they can't force it on you and force you to pay for it out-of-pocket as well. This is wrong. Really bad and service was imposed on a minor. read more
