I'd highly recommend adding an image with yearly options and prices separately from the call feature if only using FB for informational site. Same on google maps. 2) We did go on a week day morning when the weather was gloomy and they technically advertised opening at 9am and when we arrived at 9:30am it wasn't open. We called and left a message. Due to the weather they were opening late and someone was in sometime after 10am. So make sure you call ahead to make sure someone is in and leave a message if going outside peak times. We ended up going for a walk along the lake while we waited to see if they were going to be open. Prices seemed high but I'm not sure the going rate for these sorts of items though and everything is priced 'high' these days :) It was a great day to get out on the water. A great activity to get outside!

I stand by that the staff here is insanely helpful and courteous, as well. You can't go wrong with signing up your kiddo for: - SWIM LESSONS. The times are convenient, the staff is knowledgeable, pricing seems right. My only knock on this is you can't register online, only via the phone. - SUPREME LEAGUES. My children have participated in basketball and football leagues through the Coralville Rec and I can say from experience of signing up one season with another rec center in the area-- they do it best. Communication is on point. -FREE PARKING. The Iowa City Rec Center is a nightmare to park at most times. And honestly, the NL Rec Center (while it is free) is chaos as well. -SPARKS CAMP. This is hands down the best camp offered in the area. The price is right. It is offered ALL summer. They do field trips, pool visits, library days and tons of fun activities. The staff is always great, too. Be sure to sign up right away! It fills up fast around March. I think my biggest knock is just that the facility itself is pretty dated. Get your kid active and thriving, sign them up for programmed at the Coralville Rec Center.

I didn't know beforehand that it was privately owned, and I'm sure for liability/insurance purposes they require everyone to sign in before heading up the trails. Speaking of which, there are three different trails. All go up to the top of Mount Trashmore. One is strictly for bicyclists, one that both walkers/runners/bicyclists can use and then there's the short route (or road) that is also the steepest of the three. I chose the last one, and boy they were not kidding on how steep it was. But I made it. You get great views of the city of Cedar Rapids from the top, and they have sitting areas. The chemical smell from nearby was kind of a turn-off, but hey - I guess nothing can be perfect.

Penn Meadows Park is a solid location for softball tournaments!…read more It boasts nine well maintained baseball/softball fields, plenty of space for warmups, a few batting cages, trees for shade between games and plenty of bathrooms. My only three qualms are that 1) parking can be a bit crazy on tournament days, 2) the dugouts are insanely small with only one entrance and 3) the fields are numbered however they are named, too. You really have to scope out the map to figure out where 'OPTIMIST' field is or 'Pizza Ranch' field. (I get sponsorships, but let's just keep fields numbered as it's more intuitive...) I believe it is the largest park in NL. It has: picnic shelters, a few soccer fields, a playground, a volleyball court and some newer tennis courts. Additionally, there is a trail around the park. My 10U softball team took second place at the tournament here this weekend! We definitely enjoyed playing at Penn Meadows Park.

Unless you have your own horse, lessons are on farm owned ponies. I love the fact that my daughter can learn the ins and outs of taking care of a horse. There isn't any hop on a saddled horse and run around the ring fluff. She starts by grooming the horse, saddling, and building confidence around a large animal. Her instructor is amazing and gives phenomenal, personal attention for the safety of the student and the horse. They start with the basics and eventually over time work their way up through a walk, Trot, Canter, and Gallup.
