I was devastated that the Newks in Orlando closed years ago and was so excited to see one when visiting Gainesville! I made a point to stop here for lunch while on a work trip. I would like to note it is a bit difficult to get to the actual restaurant due to no turn in access in front of the restaurant. I was greeted by a super friendly worker. I ordered the special where it was $7.99 for a pizza and a drink. I ordered pepperoni. I also got a cookie. I wanted a slice of cake that I remember the Orlando Newks having so many of, and it wasn't until I was walking away from the register I noticed the cooler behind me of the slices. I would recommend the slices of cake being visible when walking in or closer to the ordering area. The sweet tea was good. I liked the spring festive cup. I've always passed by this place for years and never stopped in. One day I was killing time and decided to see what they had. I ordered a pick 2 and the cashier recommended the chicken tortilla soup. (There was only one table of two in the place filled.) When I finally got the food , it was not good. The bread on the sandwiches was hard, and the contents were not tasty. We found a great healthy lunch spot at Newk's. I had a pairing lunch with Chicken Tortilla soup and a Greek salad. Soup was thick and savory, leaving just a hint of heat in the back of the throat. Salad was yummy, with artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, a touch of feta. Drink cups are enormous! There are several options for ordering, but a staff member intercepted us before we could explore those. Food came almost instantly. Both my husband's and my dinners were delicious. The potato soup was tasty and warm with plenty of potatoes and bacon. My sandwich delightful and my husbands was very meaty. The picture don't do it justice , the flavors of the meals I got were incredible. Last time I was here was when they first had opened around the pandemic time I think 2019 or 2020. I loved it and the salad I had gotten. Since they had a Covid outbreak a few months later at the restaurant I was hesitant to go back so waited til recently. This time I wanted to try a sandwich and I got the $9.99 combo of half sandwich and half side . I got the potato salad and it was perfect not too much mayo or mustard and it wasn't overly seasoned. I love me a good potato salad and they did a pretty good job. I got the newks Q and the sauce was so good I asked for one sauce to go to dip chicken tenders. The bread was nicely toasted and the bread was so fresh. I would say this is a good replacement for Jason's Deli. I didn't think Newk's would ever actually open. The building had been sitting unopened in Butler Plaza for quite a while so I was surprised when I saw the parking lot full one day with customers. Ironically, a couple days later I overheard people talking about how great the place was and they were comparing it to Panera. I love panera so now I really wanted to check Newk's Eatery out. I decided to try Newk's out on a Thursday for dinner. It wasn't overly crowded and service was quick. You order at the counter as soon as you enter and then you get a number. There was plenty of sitting available. As you wait they have an area with complimentary condiments which I thought was cool. I ordered the steak sandwich with pasta salad as my side. Both were delicious. I really wish they gave bigger portions for the side. I was probably only able to get 5 bites out of the pasta salad. The sandwich was surprisingly filling! The cost was comparable to Panera which is kinda pricy in my opinion but at least to you know you are getting good food. I paid $9.62 for one sandwich and a small side. read more

This review is for two separate visits. It's nicely decorated. I like the center area where you can get toppings for your salad, sauces, spices, napkins, crackers, and breadsticks. It's always neatly organized and fully stocked. Drink dispensers. There are two areas and they both don't have the same drinks, which is slightly annoying. If I hadn't used the bathroom during my first visit, I wouldn't have known they make their own drinks. So, tip go to the other side by the restrooms. I didn't realize that if you want just water to drink you need to ask for a water cup and lid at the ordering/cashier area. The lids for the cups for drinks other than water are by the drink dispensing area. I like that they check on you often, but not an annoying amount. Food: Pick 2: Lobster/Crab Bisque and Chicken Salad Sandwich My friend ordered this during their free tasting event. She said the sandwich was good, but the soup came out room temperature. It was also in my opinion overly salty. We blamed the room temp soup as part of their busyness for the tasting event. We overheard the table near us also complain about the soup not being hot. The manager gave them a new bowl, and I'm sure if we said something we would've gotten one, too. Five Cheese Pizza It was great!!! I thought it would be salty with the cheese and pesto but it honestly was amazing! And it came out in the perfect temperature. I didn't find out til later but they had red pepper flakes in that center area. It didn't need it though. Pick 2: Tomato Basil Soup and Veggie Pizza I honestly didn't expect the pizza to be full-sized so it makes me wonder if I got charged incorrectly but this pizza was AMAZING! I didn't finish it all and brought it to a friend's house. She kept saying it tasted sooo good! So definitely recommend it! The soup was room temperature just like my previous visit. It tasted great! I loved the croutons and the chunks of tomato in it plus the presentation. I didn't say anything about the temp, but I'm sure it would've been better if it was slightly warmer. So, with the pandemic and everything else that has been going on, I hadn't had a chance to try Newk's out. It has been a long time coming, because they sat dormant for so long. But finally I have had a chance! Walking in, the place is clean. I spent a good ten minutes standing up front just reading over the menu and trying to decide what I wanted to get. Yes... ten minutes. Not because there is a huge menu, but because I was bouncing back and forth between a couple of things that sounded good. I am sure this plays hell on the wait staff at the counter waiting for you to place an order, but so be it. I finally decided on getting a pizza and a side of their mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was good... not to die for, but good. I prefer my mac and cheese to be more gooey than creamy, but the creamy style is the way that most like it, so that is what we get. Ah well. The pizza was good, but also not to die for. It was just a decent pizza. The prices were reasonable for what you get, so no complaints there, and the atmosphere sitting in the restaurant was fair as well. No issues. For a chain restaurant they are not too bad. read more

Got to the counter, ordered and then remembered I had a coupon, so the manager was super friendly and fixed the order right away. Our food came out and my salad had onions on it, even thought I asked for no onions, and the fat free ranch dressing was the consistency of water. BLECHHH!!! No thank you. The vegetable soup however was pretty good. All in all, I would probably not be back here. Absolutely amazing!! This was our first experience at any Newk's restaurant, so we were expecting something similar to Panera, but this place far exceeded our expectations! Everything we ordered was extremely fresh and yummy and the portions are very generous. I chose the half pick a pair with a Greek salad and it was by far the BEST Greek salad I've ever had...and I've been to Greece! The restaurant was also very clean and inviting, with great attention to detail. We were also pleasantly surprised when the owner (Cleveland) came around to ask how everyone's food was. I ordered a TURKEY avocado sandwich. It had bologna and maybe salami on it. Now I understand things happen and mix ups occur, however this was not an ordinary mix up. The salami looking meat had melted cheese and bubbling toasted edges it had been in a warm sandwich prior to being in my cold one. Well this is extremely worrisome. Was it served and sent back? Why was it in my sandwich? Who touched it besides kitchen staff? I have no idea what the heck happened to this place but this is improper food safety personified.
