I often went to SquareHouse Pizza thinking it would be like when they first opened, but it makes sense after they separated from Satchels it would never be the same. I have come time and time again disappointed with the pizza size and the time it took to make it. Size: Pizza used to come in the size of their box! As you can see in my picture, that is no longer the case. It is no longer an actual square like its namesake but a rectangle. It reminds me of "all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares." And while it makes me chuckle to think how SquareHouse should know that. I am still disappointed in paying for that much of a pizza when I could get a larger one to share with friends at the same price point elsewhere. Service: Now I understand they can get busy but one time I waited 25 minutes with only one person ahead of me for my food -- a before anyone says anything. I ordered their waffles. Another time, they never called my name. They have a speaker but don't use it. It is a food park with tables everywhere. If you don't use the speaker system and know folks sit further than you can scream, then I think they should give a beeper. Ambience: It's at the food park which is great as long as it's not raining bc spaces to sit under covered areas are limited. And bc it was previously partnered with Satchels it has the same vibe. Been meaning to try out Squarehouse again since it's been a good 3 years since I've had their pizza. I stopped by with some friends on a Saturday right before noon and we had the Motor City, Grumpy, and Seoul Food. I know the size of the pizza has stayed the same according to the Owner's comments to other reviews, but it lowkey just felt smaller than before. Maybe it's just price inflation, but $18 felt a bit pricey for the size of the pizza as they're more personal pans. However, the flavor and toppings were delicious as usual, and the crust of the pizza gets super crunchy and delicious. Wait time is longer because they make everything fresh, so make sure to keep an ear out for your name when they call it over the speakers! FINALLY returned to this gem in the 4th Ave Food Park! I came here over a year ago and absolutely loved it. I am personally a big fan of Detroit style pizza and thought they did a pretty good job. While they aren't owned or affiliated with Satchel's anymore, the eatery still offers that same unique vibe of Satchel's. Ordering is simple, just order inside and they will call your name out when it is ready over an intercom. Everything is made fresh to order, so be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes for your pizza. It is served directly out of the oven and is very hot and fresh! They offer some specialty pizzas, but they have so many topping options it is super easy to curate your own pizza too. The pizzas are a nice size, about an 8x10 pan size. A good personal pizza size, but could easily be shared too. Along with pizzas, they offer salad, waffles, some desserts, and brews. This go around, I customized my own pie. I went with pepperoni (they use the cup pepperonis!), black olives, mushrooms, and basil. These toppings balanced out perfectly and there were ample amounts of each. The pizza was covered in toppings, with a nice sauce to cheese ratio. I love the cup pepperonis and find they hold a lot more flavor, bringing more to the pizza overall. The saltiness of the olives and the fresh mushrooms accompanied the pizza perfectly. The edges were nice and crisp, the sauce flavorful, and the cheese was divine. It wasn't soggy by any means either, which I GREATLY appreciate. This pizza was phenomenal, while it wasn't the most authentic Detroit style, it was certainly close enough! I also got a salad, which was underwhelming to say the least. It was supposed to come with "homemade croutons", but lacked them completely. Definitely not worth the $8.50...wouldn't recommend the salad. While the pizza is a little more expensive, especially considering they only offer takeout, the quality is present. And I do think the serving size is bigger, so I say it's worth it! Overall, I was super pleased with my experience and was more than happy I finally returned. The pizza was just as good as I remembered. This is one of best places in Gainesville. Definitely in my top 10. This little pizza shack is a Detroit style pizza place with a twist because they sell waffles too. We always order the pepperoni with Hot honey. If you haven't tried this combo yet then you are definitely missing out. The pizza is always so fresh and they are all made to order. This is (as the kids say) low-key one of the best pizza places in Gainesville. I like it so much more than the original Satchel's, which I feel is highly overrated. Located in the 4th Ave Food Park, Square House Pizza offers waffles, salads, breakfast pizzas, sodas, beers, and of course, the square pizza. You can build your own, with each topping being $1.25 or order with one of their specialty squares. I went with the Motor City, which was double pepperoni and hot honey. Now when they say double pepperoni, they mean it: the meat was stacked up and the sweet and spicy honey layered over the savory pepperoni was a match made in heaven. While the square size does seem a bit small for the $16 price, these pies are thick and more than filling for one person. They have seating just outside their side door, otherwise there is seating all around the 4th Ave Food Park area. The only shame of all of this? I only got a chance to try out Square House once before I moved away from Gainesville. Best believe it's on my list of places to return to on my next visit. read more

While I typically prefer thinner New York style pizza, this pizza is also delicious! When I came here a long time ago I wasn't much of a fan, but this time it was so much better! I got the Motor City pizza, which I highly recommend (double pepperoni and hot honey). The crust and cheese were excellent and the flavors were all really good. Frankly, I would go to Squarehouse every time, except it is half way across town and that doesn't lend well to needing to grab a bite to eat for lunch. The pizza was good! So, I found a great lil pizza place as I also found shelter from the coming summer rain storm. He told be it would be about 15 minutes, so I went out on the covered porch to enjoy the rain and try to avoid listening to the three coeds, two tables over, who were talking about their dream jobs! Before I knew it, my name was called and I went to the sliding window to grab my food. Another friendly encounter, and a "thank you" from the same worker who greeted me at the door! The pizza was amazing!! The texture all around the sides of the whole pizza was crisp and delicious. The red sauce was tangy, and the basil and sausage just made it even better. The cheese, the crust, the sauce and the different textures (I didn't forget the mushroom factor), made it so eat to enjoy! I could hardly take a picture of it, before I devoured it. Some friends and I wanted Sachels but it was a Monday so we decided to try their sister store (I think) Square house. Unfortunately the staff was very unwelcoming, so much so I asked them to make sure they weren't just about to close when I ordered my pizza because I didn't want to be that person but thankfully they had a few more hours until they closed. Compared to their sister store they are lacking a lot in that area. The pizza was good. Ranch was okay. But I think $20 (one pizza plus one singular topping) for a personal pizza is kinda pricey. Such a cute spot to come hang out with friends, especially with their lights strung up at night in the quite large outdoor seating area. They have a tiny market built along the walls of the waiting line, with cute trinkets and gadgets and whatnot that will occupy your time as you wait to order. This was my first time trying a Detroit style deep dish pizza, and it's safe to say I wasn't disappointed! I'm not really a big fan of pizza overall but I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza at Satch Squared. I was told by my friends that live up there that this location is also owned by a locally loved pizza place. The pizza had a good flavor and a bit of a spice to it. The crispy crust was my favorite part and the top part of the pizza was pillowy soft. We got one personal pizza that fed two adults and was the perfect amount. My favorite part about my experience was the ambiance of the place. It had a little Indy vibe and filled with cool Knick knacks that I loved. I ended up buying an oven mitt. I could go in just to browse the trinkets alone! I also really enjoyed the outdoor seating and how a sink was available to wash our hands outside. I don't even like pizza but this place is delicious! It's a little pricy for a personal pizza but it's well worth it. You walk in and order at the counter and wait for them to call your name from the window. It took about 25 minutes to get our order so call ahead if you're in a rush. Today I ordered a cheese pizza with ricotta, pepperoni and hot honey. Each topping is a dollar extra. The hot honey takes this pizza over the top!! They bake it in a deep dish pan and it creates this amazing super crunchy cheese on the crispy crust. If you're a fan of thin crust this isn't the place but if you love cheese, and thick deep dish you need to come here. There's no seating inside but it shares a common outside area with a delicious Mexican restaurant, and a few other local business in the shopping center. My mom got a garden variety which has roasted red peppers, artichokes, yellow peppers, tomatoes, basil. Since it's the Detroit style pizza, the sauce is drizzled on top across the pizza. The pizzas took about 10-15 minutes to make as they're made to order. Also being that the weather was in the high 50's to 60 degrees out, I'm so happy we decided on a hot pizza. My mouth was watering from how amazing the presentation was, the cup pepperonis with hot honey in each crevice - chefs kiss! The sauce was sweet but still had an oregano taste that made the sauce enjoyable and not overpowering. My mom enjoyed her option, stating it was very light with all the veggie toppings and very easy to eat. The crust was a highlight for us both as it's airy and perfectly crispy edges. I can't wait to go back to try other options like the Mariah Curry! I got a chance to speak with Brad - super friendly and nice as well - at the front who explained to me that the menu changes with the business adding new flavors every so often. It totally could've been a mistake though and if the time issue had nothing to do with this then I would say to potential customers that even though the wait is long, it is long due to popularity and the food being made authentically from scratch. I would recommend ordering ahead online or calling in, but I see that is not an option on the website. I think it would be really neat if this was added to customer experience eventually ! I appreciate that this is a local business and took their time to respond to my review. The original reason for my subpar review was not only the wait, but the wait with the discolored pizza to which I thought was mold. The business owner has since then informed me that this discoloration is due to oxidation of garlic and assured me that the pizza crust does not mold and that all dough is made from scratch! Overall, the pizza here is like no other with a cute outdoor seating area that really gives the venue character. The only thing I can recommend to customers it to note that the green color is NOT mold and if in the wet season bring mosquito spray! In Gainesville again this weekend and I find myself in the mood for pizza. I headed to Satch Squared pizza and waffles at the 4th Ave Food Park. They serve Detroit-style deep-dish pizza. A one-size basic pizza is $12 and each topping you pick is $1 each. I got extra cheese, bacon, and mushroom. The pizza was thick and the crust was so crispy and the flavor was fantastic. A wonderful way to fill the pizza-sized hole in my stomach. Since they also serve waffles, I got a half order with butter and syrup. These waffles are unlike any waffle I've had before. Most waffles are thick, fluffy, and sometimes dense. But these waffles were thin, crispy, sweet, and when biting into them felt like they melted in your mouth the way cotton candy does. It's one of the only spots I know of in Gainesville that does Detroit style pizza. It was my first time here and I really enjoyed it. Sauce had a little kick, but the crust, the cheese, I really enjoyed it. The only thing, and it makes sense with how the Detroit style is made in a pan, is that the pizzas aren't very big. With a traditional, round pizza, you get 8 slices. This one is 4. So, depending on how hungry you were, one would be enough for 1 person, but two slices seem to be a good amount per person because it's pretty heavy. I like that they also have a variety of toppings to choose from.amd even offer a vegan cheese pizza as well. I ordered a pizza with ham, jalapeño, and pineapple and it was $16 for a small pizza with extremely sparse toppings. Honestly disappointing, and it could use more salt. Then we tried a waffle with chocolate chips. They charged $13 but only gave one small container of chocolate chips (imagine Mac Donald's ketchup cup) and it cost $0.50 for each additional small container. Also, the waffles tasted almost alcoholic or fermented?? I had someone else try and they agreed. The discrepancy between the price and service leaves much to be desired. I took my 3 kids to the 4th Avenue Food Park yesterday. My oldest chose to order from Square House. They got a pizza with pepperoni, ricotta, and extra cheese. Holy Smokes was that pizza good! The crust/edges are so freaking crispy! They loved every bite of the pizza. If you are a fan of pan pizza, do yourself a favor and try this!
