Queen Anne's was exactly that for us. We had about 75 guests, and were comfortable, but cozy. Here are some words that come to mind when I think of the space: chic, vintage, intentional, beautiful, versatile and lovely. Amanda, the owner, was great from the start. Patient, kind and helpful. Her experience was evident throughout our entire planning process. She worked with us to up to the very end, easing our little anxieties and assisting us with whatever we needed. The staff at Queen Anne's was amazing! We were so pleased with the above and beyond service. A room flip was needed after the ceremony, for the reception. It was done in a timely, efficient fashion, and for that, we (and our guests), were so grateful. Food was exactly what we expected- and delicious. We opted for food stations, rather than a formal sit-down dinner. Appetizer platters, salad, sliders and pizza. Everything was fantastic. No complaints from us or our guests. We had a blast! This goes for the NYYC Harbor Court station in Newport, RI. Our Commodore was having his "Commodore Cruise" in New England and the closing dinner was to be at Harbor Court. Now, with COVID there was a limit on guests amd total crowd for a dinner. We had over 100 cruising ew England and over 80 were due for the final dinner. Add Henri the hurricane to the mix and we had some challenges for the dinner. We had cocktails on the front lawn. Then, the NYYC set is up outside in the motor court area for dinner. This allowed us to get our entire group together. Weather was perfect. Calm Before the storm as they say. We even had the opportunity to watch the clubs "colors" ceremony when they retreat the flag each evening prior to sunset. Now getting to the food and service. With COVID it is especially hard to find amd keep good servers. We struggle with that at our club. It here at the NYYC. First they had plenty of staff. A welcome reprise from those businesses who can't seem to ramp staff back up. Even more impressive, their staff are trained very well. Women first, serve from left, remove from Right etc... I was thoroughly impressed that during COVID, and the night before a major hurricane, the NYYC was able to host the dinner for the StFYC and do so at such a best-of-class level. The Meeting Place was hosting musician Big John Short and a small crowd of happy onlookers. We decided to check out the event and were welcomed in right away. Once we sat down, we were asked what we wanted to drink. Wine and beer were brought over, and when we reached for our wallets we were told, "the drinks are on us - just tip the musician!" WHAT?! How great is that? The vibe of the Meeting Place was so welcoming, fun, and alive. Everybody knew that they were witnessing something wonderful in both our hosts and the musician. Eventually, seats were cleared away and a dance floor opened up, bringing a room full of strangers together in foot-stomping, arm-swinging dancing. We were all laughing, sweating, and having one of the best nights, ever. Music stopped at 11:30 due to ordinance rules, and we made sure to make every last minute count. A few of us hung out once the music ended to chat with the owner and staff, who were, as expected, awesome human beings. This place is a great addition to the fabric of Newport and I'll be singing its praises to everyone I meet. Walking into the room for the first time completely took my breath away. It is absoultely STUNNING. The views of the newport bridge and water are pefectly framed by the wall of stunning windows. From the mouldings, to the ceiling, to the grand staircase, to the chandeliers... WOW JUST WOW! They have an amazing property and have done an amazing job highlighting the space. I was incredibly disappointed with our paranormal investigation at Fort Adams. The weather was…read morebeyond unsafe--torrential rain, frequent lightning, thunder, gale-force winds, flooding, and standing water. Under those conditions, the event should have been canceled or rescheduled. Instead, guests were expected to drive through dangerous weather and then repeatedly walk between buildings on uneven terrain with some individuals carrying umbrellas, which only increased the risk during an active lightning storm. The conditions made the investigation itself nearly impossible. Because of the weather, we were only able to experience a fraction of what was advertised--probably around 25% of the normal investigation. We spent much of the evening trying to avoid the elements instead of enjoying the experience we paid for. I was also disappointed with the investigation methods. At one point, the investigator placed nearly every piece of paranormal equipment together on and around a staircase within inches of one another. Anyone with experience in paranormal investigating knows that equipment should be spaced apart to avoid interference. Unsurprisingly, one device began going off repeatedly, and it was suggested this was paranormal activity. However, it appeared much more likely that the equipment was simply interfering with itself, making the results unreliable. The biggest issue, however, was safety. The walkways were soaked, slippery, uneven, and covered with large puddles. Wind-driven rain made visibility difficult, and the constant lightning created an unnecessary risk. We returned home completely soaked to the bone (our own personal paranormal equipment that we bought with us was also soaked) from what felt like a hazardous trip both to and from the event. We genuinely questioned whether we should have been on the road at all. No event is worth risking people's safety. A reputable organization should know when conditions have crossed the line from inconvenient to dangerous and make the decision to cancel or reschedule. Instead, it felt like the priority was avoiding refunds rather than protecting guests. This was, without question, one of the most disappointing and unsafe event experiences I've ever had, and I would not recommend it based on how the situation was handled.
