It takes a lot for me to become genuinely frustrated, but after three separate cancellations over two seasons, I feel compelled to share my experience. My mother purchased a Groupon for my son and me to go tandem parasailing with California Parasail in Santa Barbara. My son was 8 years old and incredibly excited. Attempt #1 (2025): We booked months in advance. About an hour before our scheduled trip, it was canceled due to "wind." From where we were, the weather appeared perfectly calm. I'm not a boater, so I accepted their explanation, even though it was disappointing. Attempt #2 (2025): We rescheduled for about a month later. Once again, roughly an hour before our reservation, the trip was canceled--this time because of "mechanical issues." I had picked my son up early and spent the day building excitement for the adventure. Telling him it was canceled again resulted in nothing but tears. When I tried to reschedule, I was told they were closing for the season. Attempt #3 (July 2026): I booked another trip three days in advance. Before booking, I checked the weather forecast (no significant wind expected) and even looked at availability, assuming any mechanical issues would have been addressed before a busy weekend. Yet again, about an hour before departure, I received another cancellation due to "mechanical issues." Once again, I had to tell my son the trip wasn't happening. Once again, there were tears. I understand that weather happens. Mechanical issues happen. Safety should always come first. But three last-minute cancellations over multiple bookings--with no meaningful effort to make things right--goes far beyond bad luck. At this point, it's difficult not to question whether these trips are consistently operating as advertised. What disappointed me most was the customer service afterward. I spoke with Amileah to explain how upsetting this had been, especially after three cancellations and repeatedly disappointing my young son. Rather than acknowledging the pattern or showing empathy, I was told that if I really wanted to parasail, I should drive to Long Beach--nearly three hours away. When I expressed my frustration, she told me that because I was "on the defensive," there was nothing she could do for me, encouraged me to "write all the reviews you want," and ended the call with an overly cheerful "have a great vacation." That response was more disappointing than the cancellations themselves. Santa Barbara is my hometown, and I hate writing a review like this about a local business. I genuinely wanted this experience to work. But after three failed attempts, countless disappointed conversations with my son, and customer service that left me feeling dismissed instead of valued, I simply can't recommend California Parasail based on my experience. I sincerely hope others have a better experience than we did.

I'm terrified of heights, but our captain was so kind and reassuring that I actually felt excited instead of scared. The moment we lifted off, everything changed. It was quiet, peaceful, and unbelievably beautiful--like floating above the world. The boat ride itself was fun, the people were great, and the whole experience felt effortless from start to finish. They were wonderful, fun, and professional the entire time. It felt both comfortable and exciting at the same time which I thoroughly enjoyed. The whole experience took about 1.5 hours so you have ample time to spend time on the water and soak in the sun while other parties are up in the air. He wasn't just knowledgeable; he was genuinely excited to help the kids understand the science behind what was happening. He explained how the wind, lift, and boat's pull all worked together, and he did it in a way that was clear, fun, and totally kid‑friendly. On top of that, he inclusively added a marine biology lesson by taking us to see the sea lions and talking about their behavior and habitat. The kids were wide‑eyed, soaking up every detail. This was my first time going parasailing and OMG!! I definitely had a lot of fun and really enjoyed…read morethe experience!! I really enjoyed how the crew members explained the whole process and what to do in case of an emergency, especially when you're up so high. I also felt very secure with the harnesses and with how they distributed all 3 of us across the parasail bar. Once we were up in the air, it was so peaceful and nice to just take everything in and experience being so high above the ocean. And best of all, we were able to spot a seal swimming by, which was really cool! Apparently, we were the only parasailers from our little boat crew who got to see marine life while up above lol. For our ride, we also ended up getting the photo package. Upon viewing the photos, I thought they were alright. I think maybe next time, I'd just go without getting the photo package :/ But other than that, everything was pretty nice! :)

When I saw the gondola ride advertised, I thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We made the drive from Rancho Cucamonga, and traffic was horrible. By the time we arrived, we were stressed and running late. From the moment we walked in, the young lady at the front desk (she had blonde hair, and I'm so sorry I forgot your name! ‍) greeted us with the warmest smile. She immediately told me to relax and assured me everything was going to be okay. Then I realized my phone was on only 5%, and I asked if they happened to have a charger. Without hesitation, she handed me a portable charger so I could capture the memories from our very first gondola ride. Our gondolier, Waylon (I hope I'm spelling your name correctly! ), was absolutely amazing. He was kind, professional, and so knowledgeable about the history of the area. He made the experience even more special. At the end of our ride, the sweet young lady surprised me with a beautiful rose. Such a simple gesture meant so much. After the incredibly difficult year and a half we've had, this team completely turned our stressful day around and gave us a first wedding anniversary we'll never forget. It was great until the rope ripped that was connecting the boat to the parasail for the group after me. The winds picked up, it started pouring rain, and as they were driving the boat in the water, we watched the parasail start descending straight down into the water. I was having a conversation with another passenger right before it happened, wondering what the spot was on the rope. We thought it was a marker for the captain's knowledge, clearly that's where it was ripping. We had to race to the couple and pull them out of the water, thankfully they were not seriously hurt and they offered them a refund but after witnessing that, I will never be parasailing again.
