SCAM - and the rudest customer service! I rarely leave negative reviews. In fact, most of my reviews are overwhelmingly positive because I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt. It takes a lot for me to become genuinely frustrated, but after three separate cancellations over two seasons, I feel compelled to share my experience. My mother purchased a Groupon for my son and me to go tandem parasailing with California Parasail in Santa Barbara. My son was 8 years old and incredibly excited. Attempt #1 (2025): We booked months in advance. About an hour before our scheduled trip, it was canceled due to "wind." From where we were, the weather appeared perfectly calm. I'm not a boater, so I accepted their explanation, even though it was disappointing. Attempt #2 (2025): We rescheduled for about a month later. Once again, roughly an hour before our reservation, the trip was canceled--this time because of "mechanical issues." I had picked my son up early and spent the day building excitement for the adventure. Telling him it was canceled again resulted in nothing but tears. When I tried to reschedule, I was told they were closing for the season. Attempt #3 (July 2026): I booked another trip three days in advance. Before booking, I checked the weather forecast (no significant wind expected) and even looked at availability, assuming any mechanical issues would have been addressed before a busy weekend. Yet again, about an hour before departure, I received another cancellation due to "mechanical issues." Once again, I had to tell my son the trip wasn't happening. Once again, there were tears. I understand that weather happens. Mechanical issues happen. Safety should always come first. But three last-minute cancellations over multiple bookings--with no meaningful effort to make things right--goes far beyond bad luck. At this point, it's difficult not to question whether these trips are consistently operating as advertised. What disappointed me most was the customer service afterward. I spoke with Amileah to explain how upsetting this had been, especially after three cancellations and repeatedly disappointing my young son. Rather than acknowledging the pattern or showing empathy, I was told that if I really wanted to parasail, I should drive to Long Beach--nearly three hours away. When I expressed my frustration, she told me that because I was "on the defensive," there was nothing she could do for me, encouraged me to "write all the reviews you want," and ended the call with an overly cheerful "have a great vacation." That response was more disappointing than the cancellations themselves. Santa Barbara is my hometown, and I hate writing a review like this about a local business. I genuinely wanted this experience to work. But after three failed attempts, countless disappointed conversations with my son, and customer service that left me feeling dismissed instead of valued, I simply can't recommend California Parasail based on my experience. Had such a great time with California Parasailing! I booked online through their website as a birthday surprise for myself and my partner, and it was absolutely worth it. They have a coupon code BIRTHDAY that gives the birthday person a free parasail ride when you purchase one for a guest, just make sure it's used on your actual birthday (they verify when you check in). Each ride is $95 per person and lasts about 10 minutes total (5 minutes up and 5 minutes coming down), with the option for a fun dip in the water. The weather was perfect, bright, sunny, and beautiful and we had such an amazing time! We decided to add the photo package for $40, and I'm so glad we did. They later texted and emailed us a link to download all the pictures right to our phones. The two crew members helping us were incredibly kind and made the whole experience even better. Don and Julio were awesome. They did a great job explaining everything. We were 800 ft in the air over Newport Beach and Harbor. There was a massive southern swell this week so it was fun watching surfers in the Harbor and surf the Wedge. Waves got over 40ft but we saw 20 to 25 easy. So our tour recieved great seats to watch incredible surfing plus the 10 minutes in the air with parasailing was peaceful and therapeutic. Title: DISGUSTING SERVICE. 1-HOUR HOLD AND STILL WAITING. FIX YOUR CATALINA SERVICE. I am writing this review WHILE I have been on hold for OVER AN HOUR. This is, hands down, the most unprofessional and incompetent customer service I have ever experienced. I called to redeem a Groupon for a Catalina Island trip in June. A female agent picked up and rudely told me she had "people at the check-in desk" and to just wait. Since then, I have been ignored on the line for 60 minutes straight. If your staff can't multitask or at least provide a realistic wait time, they shouldn't be handling customers at all. I was going to book a flight, but I didn't even get the chance to speak. I have already canceled my Groupon and will never spend a dime here. To the owner: You need to take immediate action. This specific agent is actively driving away paying customers and destroying your reputation. If there is no proper response or action taken regarding this incident, I will not stop here. I am prepared to escalate this to every social media platform and travel forum to warn others about the Catalina service. California Parasailing at the Balboa location is also known as "Balboa Parasail." I bought a Groupon deal in the summer and wanted to go in the autumn when there were fewer tourists in the area. Due to high winds and foggy mornings, I had to reschedule three times, but the communication was prompt and friendly. I chose to park at the Balboa Pier Parking Lot to not risk having to circle around for parking closer to the Fun Zone. Our captain and crew were nice and friendly. Unfortunately, due to the high winds, our flight time was maybe 8 minutes as opposed to 12. We were in and out of the harbour/ocean within an hour for four parties. While disappointing, it was understandable from a safety perspective. The boat ride was fun. You get to see a lot of boats and people partaking in water activities as you cruise in/out of the harbour. We also saw seals in the ocean, which was nice. I have motion sickness, but the ride was not too bad (I did not vomit). The takeoff was really smooth and the whole parasailing experience felt like levitation, and the views from 800' above is amazing. I also ordered the photo package for $40 because I did not know if there would be other people who could take my photos. I did receive the photos a couple of hours later, which was really fast compared to other reviewers' experience. If you are with a group of friends, I would say you can take your own photos. Stole $150 of my sisters money.  She purchased me a sea lion tour through groupon. She booked the date for redeeming the groupon specifically with the Long Beach branch of this company, after speaking to someone on their direct phone line, for a tour to see the sea lions at Catalina. Because she is not from Long Beach she did not realize that you can't get to Catalina and back in an hour and a half Basically, this tour she booked is a ghost tour, because not only is it impossible to get to Catalina Island and back again in an hour and a half, this branch of the company is not legally allowed to give tours as they do not have the proper licensing nor insurance to do that in the Port of Long Beach. Now, these tours ARE properly licensed, insured, and approved for the island of Catalina location, another branch of this company. But NOT in Long Beach.  I realized the amount of time to go to the location we were being promised to be taken to was not the correct amount of time, and I realized that this company was not properly licensed nor insured to offer these types of tours in the city of Long Beach, the day before we were supposed to go on the tour so I attempted to contact the Long Beach Branch directly during business hours. I tried for over an hour to reach them over the phone and nobody would answer. I texted, no one has texted back  When they wouldn't answer the phone I drove down during their business hours and no one was around. I waited for ten minutes- no one.  I confirmed with the only boat operator on that section of the harbor, Spirit, that Long Beach Parasailing branch offers no boat tours at all- and they only do parasailing.  Again, you also cannot get to the sea lions and back again in an hour and a half, there is no way to do this. It looks like they are doing this grift specifically to scam money from Groupon customers by offering a service they do not give and refusing to refund when they can't do the tour.    Shame on them! read more

Liars!!! Their policy says that cancellations and no-shows get a 50% refund, but they lied to Groupon saying that "services were provided" when they never were at all. I called over 9 times the same day before the departure and they wouldn't even pick up the phone. I also emailed their company and received no response. I went to a Groupon supervisor via email and they won't do anything because this horrible company keeps lying to them saying that services were provided when we couldn't even find parking for an hour that day and never even got to the stand to check in! Couldn't love our experience more!!! The whole family went... all 6 of us. From 8-43 years old, we all LOVED it. I was worried we would be scary or it would be too hard for our youngest but it was neither. Easy easy easy- didn't even have to wear a bathing suit because you don't get wet. And it felt so safe and not nearly as scary as I thought... maybe just a little but I'm terrified of heights. I would recommend this to anyone!!!!! The staffs are friendly and professional. You are expected to arrive early, however, you may have to wait for the staffs to arrive a bit later. They may still be out in the water serving customers arrived before you. During our boat ride, they were informative and entertaining, they hyped us up even though they have done this hundreds of times. They took excellent photos. BEST TIME EVER! This was my first time parasailing & definitely won't be my last thanks to the amazing experience that was provided. The sign up process is super easy & the prices are super fair. I love that you're able to purchase a photo package with your ticket ($40) I went with the photo package & the photos came out amazing. The ride itself was soooo much fun. The way my experience went is we were boarded on a small boat with a group of group of people. We were explained the rules & then road out in the water which was almost as fun as the parasailing itself. They played fun music & kept us safe & entertained the whole time! The parasailing itself was something I'll never forget. I was made to feel completely safe & comfortable. When you're up in the sky it's extremely peaceful. Man!! What a great time. Shout out to our captain and his 1st mate. These guys are awesome. They made us feel safe and welcome. Came here for my hubby's 56th Birthday. You fly free on your birthday. We checked in and were off to the races...or at least the boat. Once in, we had a brief safety speech and then we hit the open water. Whew!!! Hold on once you get in the ocean. What a fun ride ( but I was scared). Lol. We got hooked in, the music came on and we hit the air. So much fun Yelp fam!!! We were up there flying and relaxing. It was absolutely beautiful. The price was 95.00 a person without a Groupon. I paid 169.00 for 3 of us with a Groupon. So worth it. We would gladly pay full price. We spent a good 10 minutes above the water before we returned safely to reality. If you get a chance, you gotta get out to Newport Beach and give these guys a try. read more

Took my family parasailing 7/14 and it was an amazing and smooth experience. We were originally scheduled at 4:00pm and got pushed back to 6pm due to unexpected delays in the morning. I do wish we had been told earlier that the call we received at 3:23 so we did wait around since we had arrived on time. Parking is definitely a hassle especially on a weekend so do arrive early. The boat ride and parasailing was a 10/10. Our captain was Dustin but I did forget the gentlemen's name who was helping us on the boat, but they both made conversation with us and made sure our experience was top notch. Would definitely recommend a photo package for the group so that you have those everlasting memories, I was satisfied with how raw and in the moment they were captured. HORRIBLE, UNRELIABLE, BOAT BREAKS DOWN If I could give this company 0 stars I would. This company is extremely unprofessional and unreliable. The boat stopped working two weekends in a row. A guy named Kevin , who is extremely rude and has absolutely no customer service skills, canceled my first appointment the morning of, due to mechanical issues on the boat, and offered to reschedule me for the next weekend at 1:30 pm. I never received a confirmation email about the reschedule and had a bad feeling that Kevin had not put my name on the appointment book, so I called to confirm and just as I thought, my name was not on the list of passengers for the 1:30pm boat and now the boat was full. I was instead offered the 3:00pm booking and accepted. When I checked in the day of, I was told by the person at the company's check in station that everything was good to go. Then, at 2:15pm , I received a text that the boat was going to be delayed, and then another right after that the appointment was canceled, again due to mechanical boat issues. If you book through this company, please be aware that they do not have a reliable boat, there is a good chance it will not be working, and the company will wait until right before your scheduled appointment to let you know. If you have to drive to Newport Beach and find parking as I did, it is a HUGE inconvenience to have this happen. Especially two weekends in a row. Also, anyone booking through this company needs to be warned that the people running the company, namely Kevin, are so Incredibly rude, sarcastic, and unapologetic when they cancel on you at the last minute. It is amazing to me that people with such poor customer service skills could even have a job. Please save yourself a huge waste of time and DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY!!! read more

We come here to the New Port Beach area when we visit my Uncle but it's still business hours and he is still working at his Dental office so we decided not to stay at his house and use the time to change and go to the Beach , so we wandered around and saw this PARASAILING. Instead of Swimming we decided to give it a try this PARASAILING , before driving back home. I signed up 2 kids and 1 adult for 90 minuites ride in total . I paid full price for 2 kids and small fee for me so i can supervise them . KEVIN i believed the name of the guy who answered all my questions about what i needed to know about this PARASAILING . Nice guy and helpful It's a Bumpy ride while in the boat to get to the location where they are Free to Fly everyone in the PARASAILING, but its Fun 'coz the Music is Loud and I can see water Splashing 'coz of the speed we are at. My son was so excited and I see him getting Higher and Higher. To get a close-up Photo up there, one must be riding with you that has a camera like a family or a friend. If you are riding by just random people, just ask if you can take pictures of each other while up there, for sure they will want one too. When my son got down I asked him if it was scary he said not at all, and I was like oh yeah he just Flew/drove an actual Plane so this one is not scary for him, but he said he had a lot of Fun seeing sceneries while up there. read more

I was terrified, and they kept making sure I was okay but still trusted them to get me up and back to the boat safely. 10/10 you should do this at least once in your life so you can say you did it The boat ride was my favorite favorite part though, seeing all the dolphins was amazing! I chose California Parasailing to take my 10 year old daughter parasailing for the first time in Catalina. While the overall experience was fun, I am very disappointed in the photos that cost $40. I definitely would not purchase again. I would just ask someone on the boat to take the photos for us. Most of the photos were blurry or too far to be able to tell it was us. The ones that were close up of us on the parasail had a big shadow in front of my face. The only ones that were okay of us were the ones sitting on the boat. The staff booking were friendly. The guys on the boat could have been a bit more welcoming and engaging. No big deal though. read more

I have done this experience 4 times over the last few years and this last time was disappointing. I ordered the added fee photo package and we only got one up close photo when before we had received awesome photos including many up close images. We told them to get us wet to the thigh and I got dunked in the water up to my waist... without a change of clothes! That said, I do understand that how wet you get is out of their control, so I give grace for that. The service on the boat was good but when I texted the company about the photo package lacking good photos (and less quality than the other couples... we received everyone's pics for some reason), they never even responded. First timers, and birthday event per my son's request. As a mom taking my children to do something that can be extremely dangerous if not done right, I now know I made the absolute best decision with California Parasail. Unfortunately, our time slot got delayed but the communication was spot on. What could have been a stressful situation they made everything very simple to make sure we were scheduled back in at a later but convenient time. So definitely 5 star communication! We checked in early per instructions and that was a very simple and easy process and the person at the check in was very kind, knowledgeable and friendly. He answered all questions to the best of his ability and on questions we had that were more for the crew he was honest and said that would be more to talk with the crew about. He didn't just give answers he gave the best information possible. So for customer service that too would definitely be 5 Star We were walked down to the boat by the person who checked us in and the crew was very welcoming with great personalities and extremely helpful to load up. Once we left the dock the crew went straight into welcomes and talking to everyone to break the ice. They then started to breed us on safety measures. Once we got out to the area we would start our amazing journey in the sky they again went over safety measures and more in depth. They paid close attention in making sure everyone was properly geared up and safe at all times. With everyone on the boat to do the parasailing they made sure to know everyone's comfort levels and make everyone's experience a magical memory to last a lifetime. Everything was absolutely amazing and such a smooth transition for everything! I'm writing this the day after and feel bad I can't remember their names but the crew we had was a total vibe from the personality to the communication and then the jams along the way. My youngest who is 6 was a bit scared when he was in position to go up but the crew helped him and allowed me to be close by to comfort him and when he came in the crew and whole bunch on the boat cheered and made him feel amazing! Now he wants to go again. If I could I would give this crew 100 stars cause they definitely were the absolute best! We will definitely be back again. Review for North Tahoe flight. Can't recommend this company. My wife and two daughters went out with them over labor day weekend. The good: pre-flight communication was good. Water was choppy so it was unsure whether we'd make it. They kept us in the loop on what to expect. The bad: one of their staff members was entirely inappropriate. His off-color commentary was disguised as humor, with the butt of his "jokes" mostly centering on women. Several comments from the guests saying "that's not appropriate" did not deter him, nor did it cause his other staffer to speak up. The final straw was when he told my daughters that he's always on the search for new mothers, because he can have sex with them without condoms, because they can't get pregnant. The other crew member just looked away, so my wife is the one who had to tell him to stop, and to not say another word for the rest of the trip. What should have been a highlight of the trip turned into a regrettable moment. After the trip I sent an email to the company, and have heard no response. It's evident they have no internal controls for this kind of behavior, and a high tolerance for uncouth, boorish behavior from staff. I highly recommend you find a different company in Lake Tahoe. Our original appointment was at 4:30pm we get a call at 2:40pm saying they are going to have to cancel because of the wind. He says if we can make the 3pm appointment.We let the guy on the phone know we are 20 mins away . He says he can wait for us. We arrive, super nice guy! Just very inconvenient with last minute timing . The boat ride was amazing and staff was really nice. Only other thing we didn't like was that we ordered the package to take our photo but they said their camera malfunctioned and could not take our pictures. Harley, was the young man in charge of our parasailing experience. He communicated all protocols and safety very well, he kept us entertained and got everybody in the air with ease. The music was perfect, the staff was informative and just overall brought such a dope energy to the experience. I didn't know what to expect but it was peaceful, fun and such a rewarding experience.
