Soul Good understood the Valentine's Day assignment I got their French silk-inspired cold brew, and it was such a fun seasonal treat. It had that rich, chocolatey depth you'd expect from a French silk pie, but still kept the bold smoothness of cold brew. Omg, it's finally open! I've loved Soul Good Coffee since their cute truck popped up around Skokie--at farmers markets, schools, and even giving teachers free coffee. Read this review as more of a 4.3/5 I really like this coffee shop. Since I was introduced last month, I've gone several times to drink hot chocolate and work. The baristas have been friendly and kind and the cocoa is great, if slightly expensive. When I can snag a good seat, the experience is even better. I have some suggestions to bump this place up to a 5/5, listed in order of importance: 1. Put some curtains (or tinted film) on those huge windows. Since the shop faces south, the sun becomes nearly unbearably blinding if sitting at one of the tables designated for laptop use. The seating options become more limited once you can't see your own screen. 2. Speaking of seating options, those itty bitty tables are too small for more than one person to use. :( 3. Adding charging ports to the big table would be incredibly helpful, as charging cords stretching across the floor is a tripping hazard. 4. I get that the nonworking among us need places to sit, too, but those adorable "nooks" in the back would be perfect for secluded working spaces, but they're currently listed as a "no laptop" area. :( 5. The for-here mugs are only available in the smaller drink size. I've been meaning to try Soul Good and was excited to find out they have a pop-up residency situation inside the Skokie Sketchbook location. (Which is extra nice because I don't really drink anymore, so it's nice ot have an option when meeting people at the brewery, although they aren't open the entire time the brewery is). I had a decaf americano and it was really good and priced similarly to other local coffee shops ($3.50 or $3.75 plus tax). I'm not sure what coffee beans they use, but there were Backlot bags of beans for sale on a table outside the coffee window, so perhaps they are getting them there (which would be awesome if they're supporting another local coffee shop). read more

Great potential and love having them in the neighborhood! I'm rooting for this place, especially since it's walking distance for me. I ordered a latte, empanadas, and a cinnamon roll. While nothing completely stood out as amazing, the food was decent and there is a lot of potential here. A few things could use some tweaking. The cinnamon roll had a really nice cream cheese topping, but the bread itself felt like it was lacking a bit. I love when they have a glaze and cinnamon, but the pastry part was just too dry. As for the empanadas, I ordered one lechón and one potato, but ended up receiving two potato ones instead. They were served warm, but I personally wish the crust had a littke crisp at least. It was still good but not sure I would order it again. I'll have to try the lechón next. I noticed they have the right equipment/machine to make empanadas crispy, so I think they just need to find that sweet spot for the time and temperature. I also completely understand how the order mix-up happened. It is very loud inside. Everything echoes, so it would definitely help if they added some decor or acoustic panels to the walls to soften the noise. I truly hope they get better with time. I'll definitely be back to give them another try! (P.S. To anyone who has been here frequently - any suggestions for their best coffee drink to try next time? Very family friendly, which doesn't bother me, even though I'm older and so are my children, because they have little nooks where you can sit and have nice conversations with your friends and you don't even realize how busy the place is. Plus everyone there is so friendly and nice, the staff as well as the patrons. Their selections of coffees and teas are awesome and they have really good chocolate donuts. You go up to the counter and order your food, but even though there might be a line, it moves quickly and everyone is just so nice nice and in a great mood. The Winter Specials menu included Soul Good, Soul Merry, Soul Jolly, Soul La La , Soul Bright, and Soul Hazy - we ended up ordering: +Soul Good - prepared with espresso, orange syrup, orange blossom water, cinnamon, and whole milk +Soul Bright - prepared with espresso, pistachio-honey syrup, almond milk, and a sea salt dust +a Chai Latte with almond milk - had a nice kick to it Note that all drinks are automatically prepared with whole milk, but they have skim and almond milk as substitutes. Drinks were good, but I wished that it was stronger; it was a little thin/watered down for my taste. Note that they are cashless! We learned that they found a permanent space that they'll be transitioning to in the spring/summer, so Skokie-ians have something to look forward to! Staff here are super friendly and welcoming! We are so delighted to have Soul Good coffee in our neighborhood! The coffee is delicious. The people who work there are warm and friendly and the service is great. The space is comfortable and inviting: regular coffee, cappuccinos and a really delicious chai tea latte are all top-notch. I've had their gluten-free muffins and they are delicious as well. The only drawback is that the space is very reverberant and can get really loud. My guess is that they will figure that out as they continue to grow as a coffee shop. This place is community centered. The owner lives in the neighborhood and treats her guests like they are her neighbors. Zelda's, the kosher catering company that is already well established in the neighborhood is opening a place right next-door to Soul Good very soon. read more

There is no " start no added sugar" option. 2 ordering on the app. Is clunky, choosing something I already ordered gets a "no longer available" warning. And the same day I can walk in and get the item. 3 I can't redeem unattainable discounts on the app and they are not available in the store...yikes. I really love their food and drinks, but if you just can't make the online stuff work don't offer it, I hope this is helpful my friends. Sugar free chai is awesome! read more
