I was quite impressed by this location, particularly the hot food. I was staying in the nearby Hilton Orrington/Evanston and this is the closest coffee shop I found on Yelp. The coffee is standard (nothing special) but the hot food is what really impressed me. I had the bacon egg and cheese croissant, and it came out so fresh and hot that I couldn't touch it for a few minutes. Once it cooled a bit and I sunk my teeth into it - oh my! Delicious. It doesn't like much in the photo (and it comes wrapped in paper almost like a fast food sandwich), but the taste is great. I liked it so much that I came back the next morning for a Cajun breakfast burrito and same story - piping hot and delicious. Portions are perfect for breakfast. Location is perfect for those at or visiting Northwestern. And the dining area is quite spacious, welcoming, and clean. Staff are quite nice as well. After being quite impressed with a Colectivo Coffee in Madison, Wisconsin, I was a little bit surprised to see that it was a chain. While waiting for my car to charge nearby, I decided to pay this location a visit. I ordered one of their seasonal lattes, a small hot one. All in all, there was a lot to like! First, the coffee wasn't overly sweet and had some actual coffee notes, instead of all of it being buried under milk and sugar. Second, they have more than enough seating for everyone who wants to grab a cup. Because of the number of people working, I can't call it a "third place" but the fact that they are welcoming to students and Yelpers alike without making them keep buying beverages or banning laptops outright is worth a shout-out (you'd be surprised) One of the best things about this place was the service. The person taking my order was very kind and welcoming, and the coffee came out very fast, especially considering how busy it was inside. Final verdict: I appreciate that Starbucks has to deal with ten times the online and mobile orders. Seems like a very popular cafe spot to work at among Northwestern students. The space is sunny with ample seating indoors and on the patio. The drip coffee is so-so -- it tasted like a slightly watered down Pike Place roast from Starbucks (which I find to be bland and over roasted to begin with). It's not an apples to apples comparison but between this drip and the cappuccino at Newport Coffee I had earlier today, Newport made the higher quality cup. We were visiting my in-laws for the weekend and grabbed some coffee and food here on our way out of town and, though it was brief, had a fantastic experience! I ordered a caramel sea salt latte and it was so good. Rich, and though a little on the sweeter side, so very delicious. Get it with whole milk for a really decadent treat. For food I went with the potato and bacon burrito which was also very good. Though just an fyi they do cut it in half. We took ours to go with plans to eat in the car during our drive, so next time I would ask that they hold the chop since it made it slightly more challenging to eat on the go. But it was very tasty. I also got a pumpkin cranberry muffin to snack on later in the drive and it was really fantastic. My husband ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich and he raved about it, saying it was not only a generous portion but delicious to boot. The space is also very cute and it was packed on a Sunday afternoon. Full of folks socializing over coffee and/or studying. I didn't see many open seats so prepare to perhaps wait if you come during a peak time. Oh! Efficient service on a busy morning, unique selection of flavors, plenty of savory and sweet food options to choose from. I stopped in about 9am on a weekday and it was relatively busy. The employees worked fluidly to get drinks out and people through the ordering line. I spent $15 on a large iced smoked vanilla mocha and 2 scones. The smoked vanilla mocha was delicious, the ice to coffee ratio was perfect. It's a unique but subtle flavor. I think it was a great choice for my first drink here. I also ordered the lemon lavender scone and the mocha scone. Both were soft with a nice crust on the outside. Both are covered in a light icing. Although the icing itself didn't taste like much, it was supposed to be flavored. I am a refugee from Peet's on Chicago Avenue, as its last day was Friday, 1/30 -- boo hoo. Colectivo has a nice ambiance, plays unique rockin' music at a reasonable level. The baristas were friendly. Another plus -- it has self-serve water spigot. I asked for a cup of dark roast coffee -- the guy who waited on me said, "Well, we have a 'medium dark roast' " so that's what I ordered. Truth is, it's just not as good as the always-available rotating dark roasts at Peet's. But I will return -- perhaps they will deliver a richer dark roast cup in the future. read more

They had a patio outside that other customers took advantage of as the weather was quite nice. I've been in a cold brew spree lately so I always liked to try it whenever I went to a new cafe. I decided on the salted caramel cream cold brew and unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. It tasted watered down and I couldn't get a sense of that salted caramel flavor. This is hard to say cause I don't give 5/5 for coffee shops without a pour over. So getting a 5/5 is a real good rating for me since they don't have a pour over but they made up for it in other ways. They have normal Lattes and such but we got some specialty drinks and they were awesome. Both the Matcha and the coffee itself were great. They looked like they had awesome food. A nice smoothie as well. It looked like they had great food. Selling beans is a plus for someone like me. They also had a nice ambiance and a lot of seating (though it was packed). A charming and cozy feeling cafe just across the street from our hotel. The rainy morning actually added to the magic and welcoming feeling of the coffee shop when walking in. We had two beautifully made Lattes along with an Almond Croissant and Pumpkin Cranberry Muffin. The cashier who took our order was very nice and gave recommendations. I typically enjoy matcha drinks, and I love pistachio, so I tried to pistachio matcha latte. It came out pretty quickly even though they were kinda busy, so I'm curious about how it's made. The drink is good at first and has a very strong pistachio flavor, but after a few sips, it starts to feel way too sweet. The chocolate croissant had a good amount of chocolate in it, good solid chunks all the way though. I ordered a "smoked salt vanilla mocha" from the specials menu. I couldn't really taste any smoke or salt, possibly because I ordered it iced rather than hot. But it did taste like a good vanilla mocha so I was happy with that. We came because Le Peep had a power outage. Sadness! They've got indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter then they'll place your order in a brown bag on a rack. No contact customer service kinda thang these days. We ordered breakfast wraps, I got an avocado toast, while my sister got the impossible English muffin sandwich with egg and cheese. The breakfast wraps: eggs, veggie sausage, tortilla strips, peppers. The avocado toast was filling! It had a sliced boiled egg and pickled onion. Pretty delicious! I don't typically order avocado toast. The food was kinda light. Small portions that don't seem super filling. I had eaten earlier so I didn't Mind it but word to the wise... I got a regular cortado, my team got a flat white, cappuccino, and jasmine green tea iced. The coffee was meh..kinda disappointing. The space was cool! It's got tons of windows and plants all over. Lunch review. Need a quick bite? Colectivo will provide some decent options. In comparison to similar coffee shops that serve food, however, I found them average+. It was fairly busy inside. I had to wipe a table down and brush the crumbs away myself cuz no one seemed to be taking care of that. Once that was taken care of, we had a nice spot by the long window. As for the food - we arrived straight from a flight and very hungry having not eaten all day. My husband got a Turkey Club, which was serviceable, but not exciting. You know how packaged lunch meat at the grocery store often comes in little precut circles? That's seemingly what was on his sandwich. For $8 I feel they could do better. My sweet potato bowl was good on flavor, a bit skimpy on size and light on quinoa. Not a bad veggie bowl, but others do it much better. The interior atmosphere was nice, already decked out for the holidays. Maybe my impression would be better if we'd come for coffee and a breakfast item. read more

I have to concur with the attitude of the staff. I was there recently and placed my order with the cashier at the front of the line. She was the nicest of the 3 staff members I encountered. The barista was so busy forcing people to wait behind this obviously hastily erected line on the floor, that drink orders were backing up and another barista had to help her. By the way, pushing everyone behind a line on the floor into a tiny space which happens to block the table where the sugar, napkins, etc is located... probably not a good idea? And raising your voice to tell people to move - yeah no Bueno. And of course they got my drink order wrong, but the other barista was cool and slightly apologetic about it. He remade it quickly. Think I'll pass. There are plenty of other coffee shops around, ranging from the mom-and-pop shops to a Starbucks that won't force you into a tiny space behind a striped line, or raise their voice and be rude. read more
