This is possibly the worst post office in any place I've ever lived - it's a dinosaur. They contract the carriers and the lack of attention to detail is astounding. Carriers will not take outgoing mail so you have to physically go into the post office to drop your mail in the outgoing slot - one of the actual USPS staff inside recommended that I do not use the blue mail boxes outside due to theft. Unbelievable. Wish we still didn't need USPS, but because we do and because they know it, customer service doesn't need to be number one for them. read more

Does it get the job done? Yeah. So if that's what you're looking for, I'd say any post office (including this one) will work. But I've never experienced someone so uninterested in helping a customer before. Maybe I've just been lucky but the other USPS locations I've visited in Bellevue and Covington (Latonia) have always been super kind and helpful when I am mailing a package. I usually get to the counter with my item and the clerk gives me an idea of the best way to package it, either handing me the right envelope/box or pointing out which one to pick from the selection available. Once I fill out the info and package it, the clerk has always reinforced it with packaging tape from behind the counter. It happens every time I go so I assumed that was standard! Well, at my visit to the Newport location, I got to the counter with my item (a book and card) and she just looked at me and said "yeah you'll have to package it, you can't mail it like that." Ok, I understand, I was wondering the best way to send it. She just pointed to the envelopes and told me to pick one. Alright, I guess I could have just started with that myself. After I packaged it, I noticed it was a tight fit and I was worried the stickiness wouldn't hold so I asked if she could reinforce it with tape and she literally handed me Scotch tape. In what world is that going to be sufficient to reinforce a package going through the mail. I asked if she could actually use packing tape and she just pointed back at the shelf and said I could buy some. What?? I was honestly a little shocked so I asked if maybe each USPS location was run as a franchise (you know, each one having different policies) - just trying to give the benefit of the doubt. But she just said she tries to follow the rules and it's definitely not allowed to use their own tape to reinforce customers' packages. I mean, I know in the grand scheme of things, this isn't a huge disaster of a visit, but if you're looking for cheerfulness and helpfulness, go elsewhere. P.S. no, it was not busy. I was the only customer in the office at the time. P.P.S. The older I get, the more I sound like my mother and it's depressing. I've never wanted to complain about anywhere or anyone. I'm a freaking millennial - it's just not our thing. We're all just out here trying to do the best we can, right? But geez people are making it hard to be optimistic in life. The lady working the desk on Tuesday, 2/23/21 is so unbelievably rude it hurts my heart. It appears that the clientele at this post office seems to be older and the lack of patience and condescending attitude is a true shame. Fun Fact about Cindy: I've never actually had to go in a post office. I have either just shipped something directly from fedex, or had Justin drop stuff off on his way to work. Today the Newport Post Office took my virginity and I have to say, it was pretty glorious. Sounds weird to be excited over a post office right? Well let me tell you -- I was super anxious being on a schedule knowing I had to ship something yesterday. I figured the line would be out the door at lunch time for the holidays. When I walked in it was exactly the opposite. There were a few people getting their things together and as we were trying to figure out the perfect box the lovely woman behind the counter waved us over and basically did everything for us. Is this a typical experience? All I had to do was write the label, she picked out the box, taped it up, packed it and shipped it out for us. I was so excited at how quick and painless this experience was she said, "You don't get out much do you?" hahah! Long story short we were in and out in less than five minutes, no joke. THE CARRIER for the Columbia Street Newport area is the WORST EVER!!! He NEVER arrives at a regular time, rarely takes our outgoing mail even when it is in the same spot that it has been for the past 3 years. Mail sometimes is delivered on Sunday or after 6pm through the week and sometimes no mail is received then a load of it is delivered like it's been forgotten. I've had several incidents where we have had Express Mail going out and it has not been picked up for DAYS. Most recently I did an Express Mail and it was to be DELIVERED on 11/25/19 and I returned to my hotel today and it is STILL on the counter waiting to be picked up!! I paid $10.50 for express mail and what a waste!! DEFINITELY need some changes there. HIRE REAL RESPONSIBLE EMPLOYEES!! read more

This is the post office branch I use most often. Although I wish they had automated stamp machines, the employees are friendly and helpful. I mail packages here because it's easy to get in and out of (given the one-way streets), has plenty of parking and I usually don't have to wait very long. read more

I've been using Newport Post Office for years and it's definitely the best one on the south side of the river. I can always get in and out within five minutes, and the line rarely lingers. The building is easy to access, which is impressive for an area with one-way streets. I'm usually able to find a parking spot quickly too. If you're a regular, you'll get to know the clerk, Mary. This by far the worst post office i have ever had to deal with. They are understaffed the manager Mike is extremely Rude. I been told twice i would get a call back from him regarding two packages they have lost within a weeks time and nothing. The government needs to shut this location down and do a total overhaul of its staff. I am constantly receiving other peoples mail/packages cause they dont have a normal carrier on my route and im know for a fact other people get my packages as well, some people are nice enough to drop them off to us but some are not and we have to take the loss. read more

I was surprised to find that this U.S. Post Office isn't tiny and takes up a whole entire city block. I ordered a canvas to make a rug and my item sat last week at this post office for FOUR DAYS, and not on a Sunday when the post office is closed either. Pretty ridiculous, really. Post office says it's OK for the worker delivering the hill to kick and pepper spray dogs. The last guy that did the route would give the dogs treats. Now the new worker is abusive towards them and the post office does nothing. I don't know how they could condone a worker pepper spraying a friendly not aggressive animal. I thought a worker should have to feel threatened to take action but obviously not. The neighborhood is sick of it and some dogs vomit for hours after sprayed. Some how some way we need this guy gone. I'm not sure how a dog walking up to someone waging its tail deserves to be sprayed and gets sick afterwards. The fact that the post office sides with the worker sickens me. Even dogs in there own yards aren't safe from this guy. Post office says because mailbox is in the yard he has the right. Worst customer service of any government entity. . . . This place is a joke. . package was received at the post office on November 28. . . it has sat at the Newport branch for over a week without delivery . . . called to check on shipment - response was can you call back later our systems are down - call back next day, the phone rings 30 times and someone picks up and hangs the phone up immediately. . . this process occurred another 3 times. I was expecting a package Monday morning, i had been tracking it meticulously for days and I could not wait for it to come! At 10:30 I got an update that the package couldn't be delivered because there were workers working too close to my Office's mailbox. Needless to say i was disappointed. I called and spoke to Jake, he told me that my package was still on the truck and that it would not be delivered that day, also it wouldn't be coming back to the post office until almost five which meant I couldn't pick it up on my lunch. I Wouldn't get my package until the next day, I was heartbroken. But Jake called me back about four thirty, He told me that he had my package and that he would be personally dropping it off to me on his way home from work! I couldn't believe it! Jake was so good to me and he went way out of his way to make sure i received my package. He truly made my day with such a huge gesture of kindness and commitment! Thank you so much Jake!! read more
