The cost of this paper, Greensboro News and Record, is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and absurd! One hundred dollars for 13 weeks of a paper that we NEVER get on the day of the news but one to two days LATE, for reasons I do NOT understand. We get another paper through the mail as well and it comes ON THE DAY of the news and that paper is FORTY dollars cheaper for the same 13 weeks! FORTY dollars cheaper!!! Unfortunately, my Father has dementia and enjoys reading his paper every day; he has lost so much - I cannot take away his paper too. SO...I will continue to pay this ungodly fee for this POOR service! DO BETTER News and Record! I always liked the Greensboro News & Record. Living in High Point, we subscribed both to this paper and the local paper, the High Point Enterprise. I think we always preferred the News & Record over the Enterprise because it generally had better articles, but the Enterprise had better local coverage of High Point. The News & Record is the third largest daily newspaper in the state behind the Raleigh News & Observer (largest) and the Charlotte Observer (second largest). Growing up a Wake Forest men's basketball fan in the 90s, I particularly enjoyed the News & Record's coverage of Wake basketball during that time. Also, I liked the paper's coverage of ACC basketball in general and specifically, the special in-depth pieces they wrote during the weeks of the ACC Tournament. For those that don't know, the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) is headquartered in Greensboro and the tournament has been held at the Greensboro Coliseum 27 times since the conference was founded (1953-54 season). Did you know the News & Record used to sell internet service? Our first ISP (internet service provider) after AOL (America Online) was the News & Record's InfiNet service. It was dial-up internet and we connected using our 56 Kbps modem. My email address ended with @nr.infi.net, the "nr" standing for News & Record. I believe many newspapers sold internet service during this time. In general, I thought the service was good and reliable, though we'd get kicked off from time to time. InfiNet was our last dial-up ISP before we switched to cable internet (Time Warner Cable's Road Runner service, now Charter Spectrum). We never had any delivery issues with the News & Record that I can recall and we subscribed for decades. read more

This has to be the worst newspaper I've ever seen. We started the paper about a month ago. They failed to deliver the paper 11 of the last 12 days. I called in. Supposedly, the district manager and circulation managers were engaged multiple times. Yet 9 days in a row and 11 of the last 12 we didn't get the paper. Unbelievable. I explained this to the person who answered the phone when I called to cancel the paper. Yet, they were going to charge me $5 for cancelling the paper. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after being on hold for 5 minutes or so, the fee was waived. After all my delivery issues, that was even a question? Unbelievable. read more

This has to be the worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. I have actually been TRYING to subscribe to print edition of the newspaper for several weeks now. Since I already have a digital account, they ask you to go online; I did, and the online system does not work. So I called. Well, that's a joke; I have yet to receive a call back after several messages. So I wrote an email and received a very curt, short, unapologetic reply from "Cynthia O". She definately needs to be retrained (or trained?) on customer service. Finally, I tried the Chat Room. What a joke! After explaining that I would actually like to subscribe to the newspaper, I was handed off to "JustAnswer" (their $1 audio/video experts). I tried to explain I didn't need audio/video assistance, I just wanted to subscribe to the paper (!) but it locked me out. It's ironic that I am actually TRYING to purchase their product and can't seem to find anyone who will sell it to me! I hope that management sees this so that maybe it will help them. I do know that leadership starts at the top and get the strangest feeling that there is absolutely no leadership taking place at the News-Record at all. read more

HORRIBLE delivery service.... don't bother, as you'll only be disappointed. My first subscription (Sunday only) was a nightmare, so I cancelled it. A few months later I received a call and a great rate to try it again, so (foolishly) I did. It was OK for about three weeks, and now it SUCKS. Out of five Sundays in November, I received only ONE paper (despite calls to their worthless customer service requesting the paper). HORRIBLE delivery issues.....I had a paper route at 12...no issues. These folks cannot figure out how to get a newspaper to a house! I have lived in Denver, Tampa, Southern California, and Atlanta and there were rarely delivery problems. I moved from Tampa in October, 2019 and have had issues weekly. They are very proficient at debiting my bank account for payment. I get home delivery of Wall St Journal, USA Today, and NY Times and have no issues. Complaints to their call center go nowhere. We have been subscribers forever and haven't gotten our paper regularly in a very long time. We live on the fringe and thought that is why we weren't getting our papers, but it looks like even people in Greensboro aren't getting good service! What is going on? This morning my husband went in to town to buy a Sunday paper because our's wasn't delivered and all of the paper boxes in Troy and in Biscoe said "This newstand will no longer have the News and Record." If I could give NR less than 1 Star I would. Like so many others, we are just sick of the poor service and there doesn't seem to be a way to improve it. We took the paper for 48 years. Heck, my husband and his brothers delivered the paper when they were children. When they were gobbled up by a big company there was no more community paper and no one there cared about the customer. We have even been in a feud with them, trying to cancel our subscription. Evidently they don't keep good records of calls. We called to cancel last October. We just received a past due notice. The news and record customer service stinks. You call and inform them that your paper was not delivered, they reply we will have 1 to you in 2 hrs, really, well 2 hrs passed. Called again oh sorry we will get 1 to you right away, yeah sure now its 1:30pm and still no paper. Called again we will issue an alert and get you a paper out shortly. Well its after 7pm still no paper. Really this is ridiculous, and its not the first time. They do not care about the customer at all. They wonder why subscription rates are down... well its their doing. I have had enough of this. They need to care about the customer more. STOP outsourcing, and do it yourself. Over 30 year subscriber. 21 years in same location. Also subscribe to the New York Times which they print and deliver. One delivery in the past week. Two telephone calls, two e-mails which are forwarded to an outside vendor. I pay over $70 per month for this non delivery and non caring. Revamp your Distribution system. It sucks!!! Worst delivery ever. Never know each morning whether I'll have a paper delivery or not. Make the call, get escalated to supervisor and is told the same thing over and over. The Record seems unable to fix my delivery problem. Don't want to read the morning paper at 10 or 11:00am. read more

We had the news and record for years. In the last few years, they have gone downhill dramatically. We lived in the Oak Ridge, NC area. We were told they were having difficulty getting a courier to deliver there. When we finally got a courier, she sent a letter out to the community asking for tips. In her letter, she instructed the customers not to call the News and Record because they would block tips she received. She provided her home address for tips to be sent. Half the time the paper didn't show. I called the News and Record repeatedly when we didn't get a paper. After we told them to cancel the subscription, they tried to charge us the full price. Customer service needs to go back to school. Hold times were awful. Supervisors did not get service corrected, the entire neighborhood had issues getting their papers. No one wants to beg for service when they've already paid for it. I suggest that the news and record take a hard look at why they are losing money. Everything boils down to impressions and the way they are leaving negative impressions, it is little wonder to me why everyone is agitated. The customers may not always be right but when you alienate your customers, you lose money. That should be common sense 101. read more

We finally got the subscription started-it took contacting the publisher-but canceled it after a few months. No end to delivery problems. Some days the paper arrived, some days it did not. If we left town and cancelled the paper, that almost guaranteed delivery. Most days the paper was not delivered early enough for me to read it and it wound up unopened and in the recycling bin when I returned home from work. It's interesting that paper delivery problems has been an agenda item on our neighborhood association meetings and a nearly constant source of complaints and questions on the listserv. Skip the home delivery and get the online edition. Much less hassle. read more

This is a never ending problem! I am a seven day subscriber, but I am lucky if I get the paper more than once a week. Here it's Sunday again and no paper again! Three out of the last four Sundays NO PAPER!!!! It does not do any good to call, we still do not get a paper after calling and the service only gets worse than it was! read more

How can my subscription rate(no taxes) go from $171.60 for 2018 go to $260.01 for 2019? That is a 51.5% increase! In 2013, my rate was $121 so that's a 116% increase or more than double in 5 years. This paper obviously has very little interest in straight forward news reporting. It's main concern is telling it's readers what they can say, what they can think and where they should go.
