Exceptional office staff and physicians. Everyone is so kind, friendly, and knowledgeable.

Making an appointment does not mean you will be seen at that time. Nor does it mean you may be seen 45 mins to an hour plus in waiting area filled with other seniors wasting their lives away to be seen by a office and doctors who are inconsiderate of their patients time. Up selling is another thing. Not everyone has a budget for the premiums. Not everyone fits their 3 options. If I cover one eye and test them this is what I see. I see extremely well out of my left eye. Switching eyes: My right eye is fuzzy and a tea color vision. I use readers to see up close for 25 years. I see great at a distance. I feel I only needed cataract surgery only on the right eye. But seeing that was not even an option nor did they strongly encourage a great out come even if I did both eyes with a premium lens in the right eye and the regular Medicare lens in the left. I just decided to go to another facility. read more

As for the actual eye surgery I think it was ok. As for the money side of things it was not ok. The total cost was just under 7K for the lenses I selected. I paid for everything up front. My insurance covered $480. They apparently sent the money to Newsome instead of sending it to me directly. After only 2 calls It took Newsome 9 weeks to reimburse me my $480. It's not a lot of money but that's not right. Imagine 1000 patients at $480, close to 1/2 million making interest for him. read more

I have astigmatism and nystagmus met with Dr Newsome and he said Toric lenses would not be a problem. I went for my preop and the tech tried measuring my eyes with a Vario test and was unable to get a measurement. Then I see Dr Sheety who said I had to get an MRI before they would do the surgery even though I explained the nystagmus was congenital. So $1000 later I returned they tried to do the Vario test again on my right eye and still not able to get results. Met with another doctor who told me since they couldn't get good measurements I should go with standard lenses that would cause me to need glasses for distance vision and different glasses for close vision which I currently don't need glasses for. And Even though I told them the vario test was inacurate and only tried on one eye they insisted "JJ" to charge me $135 for each eye. I am trying to get ahold of Larry the office manager to cancel my surgery and get a refund but they transfer me to his voice mail that is full and doesn't allow messages. read more

"I love my Newsome Eyes!" That's the tagline for these folks and in my case it's absolutely correct! I was diagnosed with cataracts which is like a rite of passage for older folks in Florida. Thousands of folks have the surgery every year. Did I tell you that it involves replacing the lens in your eye? Yup, they take out the old lens covered in cataracts and put in a brand new artificial lens. Did I tell you they do this while you are awake? Yikes! Does that sound scary? It sure as hell sounded scary to me but it turned out to be absolutely painless! The process involves several appointments. Pre-op, Post-op, and each eye surgery is done separately, separated by two or three weeks. You need to take several eye drops, several times a day for a few weeks. Huge kudos to management here for their skill in hiring wonderful employees. Each employee that touched me was friendly and most importantly caring and competent. I can't say enough about the quality of the employees. So was it worth it? You bet! My eyesight is like a twenty-year old's again! I love my Newsom Eyes! read more

I loved Dr. Newsome. He was awesome and I felt I was in very good hands. However, I cannot go back to him because of the rude and nasty staff I have to deal with. I was treated very badly by the staff because of my service dog. I was yelled at and embarrassed in front of other patients. I will miss Dr. Newsome. If you can deal with nasty staff then he is excellent. read more

I went to Newsom Eye because I have some medical issues that affect my eyesight. After the first consult I was given a couple of different treatment options, but I needed to come back in a month so they could re check their findings. I was also told that I would be seeing another Dr. because my current one was leaving the practice. When I went back this new Dr. told me that my condition was much worse than they thought and I would need shots in my eyes for over two years in order to keep me from going blind. The type of shots would depend on what my insurance would cover and what I could afford. They found out that my plan would pay 100% of the cost and I needed to schedule right away. I was very uneasy with that so I decided to go back to my previous eye Dr. They had my records for 6 years prior. They also showed me that although my condition was getting worse that it was at a very slow pace, and that I would not need those injections. I think that Newsome was only out for the money and once they found out my insurance would pay they were going to give me a treatment that was not necessary. read more

When a prescriber completes a contact lens fitting, the prescriber: (1) Whether or not requested by the patient, shall provide to the patient a copy of the contact lens prescription; and... I welcome a response from Dr. Forde about this practice. Your staff delayed my purchase of lens due to this policy. I still do not have the scrip: I asked in person, on 8-1-18, at the second fitting, again by phone (no longer in state) 8-17 and again today 8-21. read more

I had cataract surgery in December 2018. To start with some of the paperwork that is requested to be signed should have had been a warning sign to RUN AWAY. Signing a paper that said I wouldn't sue and requesting to hold a credit card on file so they could automatically withdraw money. I did not sign either and paid with a check. Day of surgery most everyone was nice in the prep for surgery in their triage area. That was until I was rolled down the hall and this attendant came, did not introduce himself, I asked who he was and he appeared to be flustered. Then he was taping my head to the stretcher. Again I should have run away but I was already somewhat sedated. Next thing I knew my vision in the laser treated cataract eye was at first double and has remained cloudy since the operation. I did not have this experience when I had my first cataract surgery in 2002 opposite eye. So two weeks later I go back for follow up and told them my problems. The dr. was not the surgeon and I was told my vision improved to 20/60 from 20/400. So why was my vision still blurry. Moreover I could read without reading glasses before surgery and now I need a whole new pair of bifocals. I am Not Not Not Happy with my Newsom Eye, but I guess I'm stuck with it! Going to see another ophthalmologist to see what can or cannot be done. read more

I recently had a lower eye lid droop lifted by Dr DeAngelis. She has credentials better than most in her field in Tampa or Orlando. She did a wonderful job with my procure with the best bed side manner of any physician I have had contact with. The staff, especially RN Josette and Tech-Teri, were exceptionally skilled in their job as well as making a potentially tense situation not only relaxing, but something nearly enjoyable. If I need further treatment, I will not hesitate to return to this particular staff grouping. read more

DONT GO HERE FOR LAZER SURGERY, do not trust this man who is probably a multi-billionaire now. He cares less about the outcome and will lie to you. He is getting extremely rich in Florida where all his victims live. He built a huge new building in Sebring and now is building one in Tampa. Dr Newsome is charming, however, I had cataract surgery by him. I had closed angle glaucoma surgery by another surgeon and went to Newsmen for a second opinion. He told me that because I had glaucoma surgery before, I didn't have room for the cataracts to grow and lied about needing more glaucoma surgery. He said he was going to redo the glaucoma surgery and cataract surgery all at once. The first week, I had the RIGHT eye done and woke up in the middle of surgery. I lightly moaned. I was shocked! I could see two people, him sitting above me with his instruments in his hands. Pretty scary stuff! My right eye can barely see blurry figures in the distance now. I have continuous pain shooting behind that eye daily. It is getting worse every year. I use to be able to see distances very well until he screwed that up. When I had the left eye done the anesthesiologist told me I was not given enough medicine to keep me sleeping and assured me I would get enough for this surgery. I already experienced pain in the RIGHT EYE. I asked him if I jerked, but he didn't answer. Newsome told me I never have to worry about glaucoma now that I had his surgery. BS Yeah right!!! I recently had my vision checked. Because of my RIGHT eye sight failure, I was told I don't have depth perception which is a huge problem for poor balance. She advised me to start wearing glasses again. My balance is failing more every year. read more

At this very second I am writing this without the difficulty I have had for over a year. This is my third visit in the past 18 years. Originally, I never really thought about my eyes until they didn't work anymore like they used to [I'm 72 now]. I work in a hospital so I knew that handing my eyes over to just anyone to fix them is not a inconsequential decision. One "oops!" and I pay the price. I researched first and then conversed with co-workers and Newsome Eye kept being recommended. So several years ago I went and they did what they do and my vision was back but as years went by every part of me aged and so my eyes needed attention again. No hesitation. Newsome Eyes! Do I have a clue what they are doing with that laser thing? Nope, but they know and once again I am fixed. On every visit the staff has been incredibly friendly, helpful, professional and they liked my dumb jokes. The doctors took all the time I needed and answered all of my questions. My eyes are too important to me to ever go anywhere else but Newsome Eyes. Y'all...thank you for taking care of my eyes as if they were your own. read more

Don't waste your time or money here! If I could have rated ZERO stars, I would have! Lost my glasses and needed to do a routine exam and get a new pair. When I called to make my appointment, I was told that they did accept my insurance. Had an appointment at 10 am. When I arrived and signed in, I again asked about my coverage and was told that everything was covered for the visit. Took 2 hours for me to be seen! Doctor didn't listen, instead tried to push things that I didn't want or need. When the exam was finished and I was to pick out lenses and frames, I was told that my insurance did not cover lenses or frames and the price I was quoted for lenses was double what I have paid at other places. I knew that my insurance did in fact cover a part of materials, but I left without questioning and without ordering glasses. Not to mention the very small selection of women's frames, 2 very small racks. Went home and called my insurance to verify that they do in fact cover a portion of lenses/frame. Called 2 other eye doctors and confirmed again that my insurance does cover a portion of materials. So, I called Newsom to find out if I was told incorrectly that I had no coverage for lenses/frame. Called the local number, which turned out to be a call center or switchboard and not the local office. I explained to the woman on the phone and she put me on hold and transferred me without saying anything. Miranda, at the local office answered and I had to explain everything again. She informed me that Newsom only bills my insurance company for the exam not for lenses and that I can take my prescription to another provider that does bill the insurance for lenses. I told her that I wish that I had been told that both of the times that I asked about my insurance coverage. She responded by saying, "Sorry, that's not my job." I in turn got upset and her response was, "I can transfer you to a manager because I don't have..." and then she stopped. What amazing customer service! This place was a joke and a waste of time. Go somewhere, anywhere else! read more

did not really need cataract surgery yet! Saw absolutely no difference after surgery; and it took them 3 months to let me know I had an eyeglass prescription. The customer service reps were condescending to me. Very disappointed and spent way too much money. read more

This practice is more interested in your credit card than treatment. My wife went to them and we paid a balance due after insurance paid per their statement. Two weeks later she got a call on Thursday telling her she need to make two payments before her next visit on Monday. She was told to bring payment and they would have the bills. They also want payment at time of services for what they say Medicare doesn't cover. I do not pay any medical until insurance is processed and I get a statement to review for accuracy. She no longer goes to Newsome Eye. I am still talking with billing to get an accurate final bill. Way too much trouble. read more

I was recently seen at Newsom Eye by Dr. El-Jabali for a routine follow-up exam. During the exam Dr. El-Jabali found a retinal tear and was able to repair with laser that same day. He was very kind and compassionate towards me. All the staff was also wonderful. I would highly recommend him. read more
