I retired after being a law professor for forty years In Houston. I am a well respected resident of THE WOODLANDS having resided here since 1985 and have been, and still am, involved in the community. My point is that this review is absolutely honest. My story is simple. I purchased the best Starkey hearing aid from another provider. I wasn't very satisfied with the service, so I contacted Clarity Hearing. I wanted to get a new hearing test and my hearing aid programmed accordingly. I was charged $260 for (one hearing aid) this service which took about one hour. My other ear has an implant and I don't need one for that ear. I thought this was a little expensive, but understand they were not making any money that they would had I bought from them originally. After a week, I realized that my hearing was not as good as my three year old Phonak. I just called them, explained the issue, and was promptly told it would cost me another $130 to fix what should have been done originally. This is a TOTAL RIPOFF. They are MANY PROFESSIONAL HEARING SPECIALISTS IN THIS AREA. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. Go somewhere else. REPLY TO CLARITY. For the reader, you need to read their reply. You are correct that professionals bill for their time. But, lawyers, doctors, cannot ethically bill you for the same service. I paid you to program the best hearing aid that Starkey produces. That model is their EDGE AI 24. You did program it, but I cannot hear as well as I did with my older Phonak. What does that mean? Either you did not properly program it or Phonak makes a better product. Tell me which is the answer.

The hearing aids are decent. Be sure to make sure BEFORE YOU BUY the aids that they pair with your phone which you can only do by looking on Oticon website (again I was not warned of this) and I discovered that I had over upgraded my phone and went through a lot of time and misery redowngrading. In any case pairing is hit or miss depending on the day. I was fortunate enough to have great insurance to cover otherwise this would have been very very frustrating.

I wasted a LOT of time waiting on these people to do their job, and they failed. I am now looking for another audiologist to start this process again. Heights even "opted me out" of my own insurance plan and got me a "discount" with their equipment provider, which, of course, cost me more money. If you need an audiologist or hearing aids you would be much better off to go someplace - anyplace - else.

I spoke too soon. Earlier this month I said it was a good experience going to Heights Audiology and…read moreHearing AIDS. That was until I picked up the heating aids. I paid up front the total and when Blue Cross finalized it, Heights had over charged me $1300+. After 20 minutes on hold with BCBS while they talked with Heights explaining that being in network they had to abide by BCBS guidelines, Heights refused to refund the difference siting my bill I signed where it said Payment is expected at service, payment is your responsibility and I accept financial responsibility for my bill. They claim that allows them to charge whatever they want and not follow BCBS guidelines. Well, anything you buy from anyone, it's your responsibility to pay for it. They didn't state, we don't have to follow BCBS guidelines. Who would sign that. They tried to be deceptive. Despite having called them initially and they told me their top of the line hearing aid, any brand, was $2800 per ear, now they say mine are premium and they fall under a different billing, even though on their web site it says my brand and model is $2800. Last night they said that was because they haven't updated the web site for 2020. That doesn't explain why they verbally said the top price was $2800. They are siting some old BCBS guidelines from 2008 and 2012 that says they can balance bill even though BCBS now says they are over charging me. Avoid doing business with this place unless you get it signed in writing what your cost will be and it matches what your insurance says. Plus don't sign ANYTHING until you go over it with a fine tooth comb and have them explain every word in detail. They claimed they explained it all to me. Liars.

In my experience the hearing aids have a better quality of sound than other brands and are also very reliable. Another thing I like about Beltone is the minimum amount of feedback that happens when something is too close to my ear. There was never a need for a repair on my old set and routine servicing was very easy. It is so convenient to go to one of the many Beltone offices and reassuring to know that if something happens on a trip that help is usually easy to find. I have recently bought a new Beltone Amaze RIE aid and am surprised at the sounds that are now within my range. The aid is a little more complex due to the control available with the phone app, but the ability to hear better is well worth the complexity. The automatic adjustment works well in most instances and is usually all that is needed. However, I can use the app to focus on a single voice in a noisy room and actually understand what is being said. I am able to watch TV without subtitles, which is something that has not been possible for years. One thing I do recommend to people who have significant hearing loss is to find a Beltone Hearing Care Practitioner with many years of experience and/or a user of Beltone aids. A practitioner with hearing loss better understands the limitations of their customers. I am now using Mike Silva who is located at 1509 W 18th street in Houston. Mike listens to your concerns, has many years of experience with Beltone, and is a Beltone customer himself.
