When you go for a hearing test, what is it you want? What I want is competent staff that answers the phone and arranges the appointment, excellent staff that provides the hearing test, excellent staff that explains the issues and answers questions in a way that is understandable and competent billing. My two encounters with both the front of the office (Melanie) and hearing professional Dr. Cristina Vallejo not only met but exceeded encounters with others in this business and my own expectations. Rather than go into a very long review, I will hit what I see as unique to Dr. Vallejo. We had 2 different visits. The first was for my 90 year old mother with the second visit being for both my mother and myself. Dr. Vallejo's uniqueness and excellence can be summarized as follows ... attention to detail while administering the hearing test -- what I mean by this is she noticed that my mother was leaning toward the ear being tested at certain times which signaled to Dr. Vallejo that my mother thought she heard the sound but was not sure enough to press the button, so Dr. Vallejo would remind my mother to press the button even if she thought she heard the signal. And, then Dr. Vallejo would retest those sounds. At other testing businesses, the audiologist would hit a button and let the computer do the test. That is not what Dr. Vallejo did ... she ran the test manually and retested the same sound/frequency/loudness multiple times to ensure a better result. Dr. Vallejo also made the time to explain what was being tested and explaining that it would be frustrating to struggle with the test ... and then, when she saw my mother getting frustrated, Dr. Vallejo acknowledge what was happening and offered encouragement. While this was very empathic, it also lead to a better hearing test. The final piece was this office has a piece of equipment that tests how the hearing aids work within your ears so that your hearing aid settings are based on your hearing with your hearing aids based on your ear canal shape. This is different as the majority of places set your hearing aids based on the hearing test which are usually different than what you actually hear once the hearing aids are in your ears. My personal hearing tests and experience were not any different that what I observed with my mother. I highly recommend this office and Dr. Cristina Vallejo. read more

My wife was in the market for her first hearing device. After doing a bit of homework on the internet...we visited several hearing clinics in Houston. I had been in denial about my hearing loss for years. I could no longer pretend. I could not hear the TV unless I had the volume on "80." I could no longer have conversations on the phone. Family members and friends were frustrated (and angry) with me for not "fixing" the problem. I went on line, found The Center for Audiology, and made an appointment. I was "matched" with Rosangela Moira, Au.D. I won the lottery!!! She was calm, beyond competent, listened to me, and she "taught" me about using my hearing aids by using language I understood, taking the time to make sure that I understood how to use them before I left her office. I was searching for my first hearing aid and shopped at 2 different audiology providers. At the first one I received what I considered appropriate assistance and was allowed to test the recommended hearing aid. While I didn't find anything amiss with this provider I wanted assurance that I was getting appropriate advice and service. FANTASTIC SERVICE AND EXCELLENT TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS The Center's audiologists are constantly improving their technology and using that knowledge to improve their care. When I moved to Houston four years ago, I was using a brand of hearing aid that almost nobody in the Houston area supported - Dr. Nagel obtained the necessary software and quickly mastered it to make adjustments that improved my hearing. When it came time to replace my hearing aids, Dr. Vallejo allowed me to try out a set for a couple of weeks to see how I liked the different brand, and then worked with me to purchase just the right set - neither too many features nor too few. It was a thrill and a big comfort to find Dr. Moura after having 'lost' her for more than a year! What a pleasure to work with her again to find just what I needed to help me hear better. She is an experienced, helpful and knowledgeable professional that takes the time to work with her patients to make they are comfortable and satisfied by the time they leave her office. Plus, she is readily available to answer any and all questions if a problem should arise. Dr. Nagel and the entire staff at the Center for Audiology were tremendous and made the experience of getting hearing aids for my elderly mom easy and pleasant. My mom tends to be tough and skeptical, but when she walked out of there with her new hearing aids she had tears of joy in her eyes. Everyone was just great with her. Cristina Vallejo is the best audiologist in Houston! She is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and experienced. I ought to know, since I have been to several other audiologists and none of them fit me with a hearing aid that I could stand. I now have the Phonak with rechargeable batteries that stays in my ears from early morning to late evening. No hearing aid I ever wore was tolerable all day long. Not only that, but it is incredibly low maintenance. Dr. Christina doesn't just hand you the hearing aid, but shows you how to insert it properly. My mom was recently diagnosed with Sudden Loss of Hearing and she got Tinnitus with it, which is a ringing in the ear and it was literally driving her insane!! The ENT just gave her steroid treatment but nothing for the ringing and I started to do some reasearch and I found this place and everybody is soo sweet and nice Dr. Sara Nagel is amazing she was soo patient and she gave my mom a hearing aid to mask the tinnitus and the moment she put the hearing aid on, she couldn't hear the ringing anymore and got so happy that she started to cry tears of joy. I got custom Westone earmolds from The Center for Audiology, and they are truly AMAZING!! They are totally perfect for my spin class because the music is way too loud and the disposable earplugs were always falling out of my ears! They're incredibly comfortable and not noticeable at all! I can actually focus on my workout because I'm not distracted by the music being uncomfortably loud anymore. They're also perfect for studying without any distractions (I'm a law student right now) and at any event where music is uncomfortably loud. I have been to Audiologists in Houston for more than 10 years, including the best in the Texas Medical Center. TCFA is the most professional, most personable, and the best diagnostics, of all of the firms I have used in the past. For more than a year, I did not purchase new hearing aids. Dr. Nagel made a profound difference in my father's life. He has been suffering from both deafness and dementia, and I did not realize how much his lack of hearing was negatively impacting his life. After being fitted for a hearing aid, however, his mood is extremely upbeat, and he is profoundly more engaged in life, despite the memory loss. Center of Audiology's website says that Dr. Cristina Vallejo has a passion for helping hearing-impaired patients improve their quality of life. I found that to be absolutely true. The first pair of hearing aids were challenging for me and Cristina was very supportive of me trying a different solution. The second pair was like hitting a ball on the sweet spot for a home run! Dr. Vallejo is patient, friendly and very knowledgeable. Melanie, the Office Manager, is friendly and helpful as well. I'm glad I found this group of professionals.
