My boyfriend and I come here on occasion since it's close. The staff is nice enough in my opinion, hence the two stars. My main concern comes with the wait time, it doesn't matter how packed or empty they are, it always feels like we're always waiting at least 45 minutes to get looked at. We went there a few days ago, due to some ear pain I was dealing with. We went around 6 or 6:30 pm, I wasn't seen by the dr until at least 7 something. And by the time she finished looking me over and prescribed me something for my pain, the pharmacy was already closed. They also took forever to see my boyfriend who was dealing with nausea a while back, he almost threw up on the floor due to the long wait times, and by the time they saw him, his nausea finally subsided. read more

I went to Newton Urgent Care with a UTI. I was given a prescription that was "a general antibiotic" and told to expect the results of the culture so that if the RX needed to be changed, they would alert me. Time for the test results: 3-5 days. I waited 7 days to hear from them. When I called, I was told that no culture was sent out for me. I then spoke with the doctor on call ( not the one I saw initially). All the advice he offered was that I should see a urologist and contact Atlantic Healthcare with my concerns. I asked to speak to the facility manager. He was currently "in the field." I left my name and number and asked for a call back...I never heard back. As advised, I posted my concern on the Atlantic Healthcare site. No return call or follow up e mail. My takeaway: They get the patient in and out, promise them good follow through attention, then bill Medicare. End of story. Atlantic Healthcare? No follow up, no concern...just the MONEY. No matter what my emergency, from now on, I will not go back to this or any other Atlantic Heatlcare facility unless I'm at death's door...I wonder what would happen then? read more

The front desk staff were professional and very nice however the women doing the urine test was very rude and nasty. She treated me like I was a drug actic and I never touched a drug in my life. The bathroom was disgusting and unsanitary. There was urine everywhere and they used the same bathroom for both genders. Absolutely filthy. Then the CNA staff were rent a CNA of the year. They all couldn't find the veins for Lab work. Then threatened to send us up to the hospital who would have found the veins in one shot. The stupid president cut their funding for the proper arm needle that was needed. Don't get Lab work here if you have deep veins they only have butterfly needles no other needles. They can cut funding for food stamps ECT. They need to shut down this office in Newton NJ. Then the doctor said that he could get the labs done but we will have to come back later that same day so we walked 45 minutes home and 45 minutes back only for this man bun retart to draw blood from the artery in the wrist which pissed me off because if they had the proper deep vein needle that would not of been an option to stick a 16 year old girl 5 times in the arm getting no vein with a stupid butterfly needle and six time into the wrist. The doctor drug screeners and CNAs were absolutely pathetic. Last evening I had to go to urgent care because I had injured my big toe Saturday. My toe was throbbing and turning black under the nail and it was very swollen even though I had been icing it for two days. It was getting worse and needed to be drained. The service at Newton Urgent care was excellent both at the front desk and the medical care. I want to especially thank the nurse who treated me. Newton Urgent Care is a good place to go if you don't want to go to the ER. I went there for my daughter's ear ache. I saw a nurse and doctor Alvarado. He was great! He took out my daughter's ear wax and was professional throughout our visit! The receptionist there are attentive and even checked on my daughter who was in the bathroom feeling nauseous. I would definitely pay this place a visit again! Noting that Atlantic Urgent care of Newton is affiliated with Atlantic healthcare system. Went there twice on the weekend because my doctor was not open. On June 23rd, 2024 and again on August 10, 2024. Both times ONLY a nurse practitioner was available. The first time at least the woman asked what my doctor prescribed for my diviticulitis. My memory escaped me so I was told by her to go up to the ER. And again she should have been able to research what she could prescribe. At the hospital they did a scan and lo and behold, it was diviticulitis. I just called my gastro guy on Monday of which is what i am going to have to do yet again. In the interim Dr. Kalum scheduled and performed a colonoscopy to make sure nothing else was goin on. It was as diagnosed before diviticulosis. Now this happens quite a bit and will probably need to be addressed with surgery but in the interim I know the sypmtoms, I know the pain in the same exact place everytime. I know what it is I really just needed an antibiotic to address it. Of course it flaired up over the weekend again, so i decided to go up to Urgent Care knowing now what he prescribed me, i didnt think there would be an issue. The second time the NURSE PRACTITIONER "Erin Harwood". Steps into the room does not examine me nor ask me any questions about my condition, but tells me right off the bat, she cannot diagnose me therefore she cannot give me a script for bactrim, as dr. Kalum used on me since i am allergic to amoxicillin and augmentin. So With that, i told her i know what the symtoms are and i know what it feels like. I told her what my diagnosis was because I KNOW IT!!! Long story short, 2 times i went to Newton Urgent Care and two times my insurance was charged but I was not diagnosed nor treated either time because they ARE NOT DOCTORS. I would imagine that is a touch of insurance fraud and I will be making a complaint against them. I went there for a medical consult and it could not be performed by either nurse practitioner and there is no actual doctor on board i would imagine that is how they leave the place on the weekend. They take your money and send you up the hill. If they are not able to diagnose and treat WHY are they seeing paitients on their own. I will be making a complaint regarding the medical inusurance being charged and services not being rendered in any way shape or form. They are quick to take your insurance cards and then not treat ??? Really? Not quite the same as when the real doctors matteson and gannon. They made a difference and truth be known this place should just shut down. I am not even sure they could handle the common cold at this point in time. They didnt even take a blood pressure this time and no examination, nothing. That facility is quite the joke, and I will NEVER go there again. Do yourself a favor and go directly to the emergency room because chances are they will be sending you there anyway. Very incompetent to say the least. Now i sit in pain until i can call my own doctor as i cannot keep going to the ER for the same diagnosis and hours long wait. All I needed was an antibiotic for God's sake. I was there for conjunctivitis. one person in waiting room. i waited 1/2 hour to be shown a room. Sat there for 40 minutes and finally went out to see if they had forgotten me. immediately I was told it would be soon. Dr. A. Herrera immediately appeared. He did not wash his hands or put on gloves before he touched my face to look at my eye. Despite the office requiring masks, he did not wear one. i cant imagine the wait if there are many patients. Dr. Smith took great care and sent us home with everything we needed. I understand the negative reviews for Sparta because we have experienced similar issues there, but Newton treated us right! I've had a terrible experience at this place, I'm truly baffled at the good reviews here I wonder if they paid for them. Jeff is the " case manager" of the place, he came out to give me and my girlfriend a COVID test had no sympathy for her when she complained after he shoved the 6 inch long swap up her nostrils we all know that's uncomfortable as is, imagine with an attitude she asked for her vitals and to know what her oxygen level was because she has a heart condition and he completely ignored her and when we asked him for someone else who can preform the test who's not a complete barbarian and tries to be a little more gentle he answered us NO!! When we asked to speak to the manager he yelled at us I AM THE MANAGER!!!!!! But that is not why I am writing this.. there's no need to abuse your position in any establishment especially when your having a bad day doesn't mean you go against your Code of Ethics making this place and everyone who works in it look terrible. How can you say this is Quality honesty and integrity in everything you do if the person who they have to look up to is unprofessional disrespectful inhuman has no empathy or compassionate towards the ill. Negative ten. My sister went into this urgent care with an appointment for her walking pneumonia with an appointment at 12:15 was not seen at all from 12:15-1:35. She then heard the workers outside of her door talking about taking everyone else before her as no one wanted to enter the room because they thought she had covid. So instead of them giving her a test even though she tested before coming in they sent her on her way an hour later with no medicine not even a minute of time. She was wearing a kn95 the whole time. She is a lupus patient and needed care that was not given when she wasn't seen she wasn't even reimbursed so now she'll need to come back which costs gas money and the effort as she's already doing not well all because medical professionals were unprofessional and chose not to do their job. Our country needs to do better with the way our health care treats people and that starts with the individuals that decided to do health care as their job. Please do your job. read more

I was there this past Monday for Sciatic flair up. First I was in treatment room for 45 minutes waiting because I was forgotten. Than the Practitioner came in and gave a minimal exam. I explained the severity of the pain, I had to leave work. well, I was given a prescription for a low dose steroid, not even a muscle relaxer and told to continue taking Advil, which I clearly stated was not helping the pain. Told to see a Orthopedic if problem still persists. So they basically gave me a home exam and sent me on my way. Currently missing more work because the Practitioner was too tentative. A week prior my daughter went there for a animal bite, they cleaned the wound and stated if it gets worse go to hospital. Clearly this place gives minimal exams at best, than refers you somewhere else. read more

I arrived at 8:30 on a Sunday night after driving five hours, coming home early from a weekend trip just to go to this place because they advertise they are open seven days a week, 9:00-9:00. I walk in and they say "We take our last patient at 8:00. We open tomorrow at 9:00, or you can go to the emergency room." If you don't accept patients after 8:00, then list your hours as 9:00-8:00, and turn off the flashing "OPEN" sign if you won't accept patients after 8:00. Edited- I did return the next day for treatment. The service provided was fine. My beef is with them listing their closing time ad 9:00, when they stop accepting patients at8:00. read more

Try to find a doctor when you really feel bad and need immediate attention. Our local doctor has an average three hour waiting time if you're lucky enough to get an appointment. Newton Urgent Care to the rescue. My wife had a fever of 101 degrees and had been coughing and taking chills all night. I took her to Newton Urgent Care and they saw her within 20 minutes. The first 15 minutes were spent filling out the usual patient and billing info. The nurse took her vital signs: blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, and she asked a lot of medical history questions. There was a 5 minute wait for the doctor. The doctor, a pleasant fellow, listened to my wife's lungs and determined her malady to be bronchitis. A prescription for an antibiotic was written and we were out of there. The entire visit was 40 minutes. We aren't looking forward to getting sick any time soon, but we know where we'll be going if/when we do. It was a good experience in a time of need. read more

They denied me access to urgent care!!! I would NEVER recommend this to anyone!!!I had a rash all over my body and it was itching badly. I called my Dr and he was on vacation and no other Dr's in group had appts so I went to urgent care. I hadn't been there since the prior year and there was an unpaid bill that had been kicked back a few times for the insurance company and I called them to see the progress before I left to make sure it was still an open case which they stated. I had ticket numbers and info to back up but left at home before I left. When I got to Newton Urgent Care, I was denied service unless I paid the pending. This very unpleasant receptionist got very loud as I tried to explain the situation with bill and insurance company. Bottom line - they denied me access to urgent care! Our child recently had a sports related injury which required some prompt medical attention. When our primary care physician's office couldn't fit us in, they referred us to the Newton Urgent Care. It was a stressful time for us so we really appreciate the warm and kind reception during the check-in process. Although there was one other person in the waiting room, we were invited to the exam room within 15 minutes after I completed the forms or our arrival. The nurses (Geoff and Chrissy) who provided care were courteous, gentle, patient and prompt in addressing our child's medical needs. To alleviate physical discomforts, an option was offered and provided upon agreement. I really appreciate the positive and caring approaches that all the care providers had. The X-Ray tech Austin explained the process well and even gave us a view of the 3 pictures taken. The review of the result afterwards was concise, helpful and specific so we knew how to follow up for care upon leavings. By the time we left, we received a CD of the X-Ray, clear discharge instructions and a sheet of referral for the follow-up care. Many thanks to the team at Newton Urgent Care of New Jersey ~1630-1745, Monday, 21 April 2019 for giving our child and family in distress such great care!!! We hope that we do not need to return for your services any time soon but would definitely go to Newton Urgent again when necessary without hesitations. P.S. Drove up from Monmouth County to get my granddaughter who was at the 4H Camp because she needed to be seen by a doctor. Was told to go to the Newton Urgent Care because they were open till 9am. Arrived at 8:30 and told they stopped taking patients at 8:00 pm. If that is the case they need to turn off their open sign. Had to go to ER and wait hours. read more

These people are a rare breed: they are doctors because they want to care for peope and make them well. I came to them with a large burn on my right hand, some of which was third degree, almost all of it in the area between my thumb and the rest of my hand. It was doubtful that I would ever have the full use of my hand again. They were so wonderful: so patient, so detailed, so time-sparing, so encouraging, so intent upon my recovery; that you cannot tell there ever was a burn there at all. Dr. Mattes is an exceptional Doctor. I showed up one Sunday evening with a "little infection" that my aunt and uncle had been giving me crap about and which was apparently not responding to topical triple antibiotic. I had been referred by CVS and my expectations were fairly low. However, HaHa, jokes on me - my little infection turned out to be MRSA which can kill you or cause you to lose limbs and is very difficult to treat. I saw Dr Mattes several times over the next 2 weeks and the guy actually a)cared/followed up b)didn't charge me an arm or a leg c)used his experience to prescribe the correct drugs and correct care to clear up my little infection. I am extremely appreciative of Dr. Mattes and his care and professionalism. If all Doctors in this world were as competent and caring as Dr. Mattes the profession would have a far better reputation. read more

My husband was clearly racially profiled and treated like garbage. I myself am a nurse and had to step in after what I witnessed. This place clearly lacks judgement in who they hire for their front desk not to mention the clear violations of HIPPA as the women discuss patient information freely in the open. My husband went for his CDL DOT physical 6 months back, he failed due to his vision. We had to a second eye exam, get prescription glasses and retake the test. He passed. When he went to DMV, the employees at DMV said they constantly have this issue with Newton Urgent Care and that they do not check off the appropriate boxes on the paperwork. They sent my husband back to get the boxes that stated CDL Apllicant checked off by the doctor, the form was incomplete. When my husband arrived, instead of the woman at the front desk faxing the doctor to complete the incomplete paperwork, she argued with my husband and told him the paperwork is fine and they know what they are doing and he is wrong. He explained to them several times that he just came from DMV and restated what they told him. He then also put the clerk at DMV in contact with the woman at the front desk. While on the phone the Newton urgent care employee who goes by the supposed name (Jessica) began to tell DMV that it was my husbands fault the paperwork wasn't filled out correct by the doctor. My husband then asked the woman to not lie and tell the truth because she made a mistake and he told her several times how it needed to be filled out for an applicant for the road test. The woman then got nasty with him and it escalated, my husband asked for her name and position along with another woman sitting behind the desk. This woman refused to give her name or information, he politely asked if he can have her license number thinking she was a nurse because this is how unprofessional she was and nasty. She then wrote her name and position down and threw the piece of paper and flung it towards him. My husband had to call the cops to protect himself from further escalation as he felt targeted at this point by this woman. The woman then told the officer that she was being abused by my husband who asked to several times to kindly talk to him respectfully and not throw things in his face. After the officer left the employee then went on to tell my husband that he has to Re-test because the doctor was not there to complete the paperwork. This is medical fraud, instead of faxing the doctor the incomplete and clearly wrongly filled paperwork she told him to re-test. They then failed him and told him to go get a new prescription and glasses. Despite all of this my husband did not argue and just left to go get it done. We had to pay $138 out of pocket now for another exam which he passed at a lens crafters due to their mistake because now insurnace will not cover a second exam. We come back to the urgent care the same night with the appropriate prescription and note of passing and the doctor will not sign off to pass him until he comes back to take another exam. This is when I had to step in because it was evident this was about race because if I had stepped in that facility as a white female healthcare worker this never would have happened to me.I spoke to the woman and explain to her this is not only medical fraud but about race, they should have right from the beginning faxed to the original doctor the paperwork to complete and that my husband had additional prescriptions from another center passing his vision. The Dr. then pulled his chart and reviewed his prior exam and passed him realizing they were in the wrong and had already passed him. This was a CLEAR case of a racist secretary not doing her job,being professional or courteous behind the front desk. It gets better, she then called corporate at my husbands job and said he was abusive to her and he is never allowed back at that facility in Newton, I stand witness to a false accusation. If he was abusive why did she not get a police report? Why did they further continue to treat him? That woman needs to be fired. read more

Great facility staffed with helpful, professional, friendly, knowledge doctors. Have used them several times when my primary care physician was not available. Went to facility on December 2, 2018 and was seen by Dr. Mattis for what I attributed pain to a pulled muscle in my right side. He quickly checked me over and ordered my husband to immediately take me to the ER in Newton Hospital that is around the corner. He was to call and order tests as he suspected a burst appendix. Arrived at ER and they were waiting for me and the ordered tests began. I did have a burst appendix and had surgery within 3 hours. I thank Dr. Mattis for his quick and professional diagnosis as it saved my life. He even called me when I was released from the hospital 8 days later to check and see how I was doing as he was worried about me and the seriousness of my situation. Best doctor ever and best urgent care I ever have gone to. Thank you Dr. Mattis and staff. read more

The doctors here are great but one of the receptionists is truly nasty. I am a Federal employee with insurance for myself and my family. My adopted son also has Horizon NJ Health as a secondary insurance due to his adoption. I know this facility doesn't take the secondary insurance. They do take my primary insurance with a copay. Even though we've been here multiple times today when one of the receptionists heard about my son's secondary insurance she nastily said, "he has Medicaid? Medicaid as a secondary insurance?" She then told the other receptionist who was checking my son in not to see him. I explained that I have primary insurance that covers my son and I would pay the copay and she accused me of insurance fraud. I just can't fathom why she would come up with such an outrageous and ridiculous assertion.
