This was the worst urgent care experience I have ever had. I have visited this facility many times…read moreand usually received decent service. However, today's visit was especially disappointing. I waited over an hour in the waiting area, even though there were no other patients in the waiting room waiting. Perhaps there was one person being seen.  When I was finally called in, the assistant took my vitals, then the doctor entered the room. She didn't introduce herself (I later learned that her name is (Bernice Monroe )and kept asking if I had been wheezing. I responded negatively, and she briefly listened to my lungs and heart--about ten seconds. She then said she would prescribe a steroid, claiming it would treat the condition if it was allergies. I questioned this, clarifying that my symptoms didn't suggest allergies, and explained I'd been experiencing a chest cough and chest pain for several days. During this, she visibly yawned, looking tired rather than disinterested. I voiced my concerns about the steroid, noting there was no reason to prescribe it. I asked if she detected signs of pneumonia or bronchitis, and she responded no, but still planned to prescribe a steroid for allergies. She said if my symptoms worsened, possibly indicating bronchitis, it would treat that too--despite my clear statements to the contrary. I also pointed out she hadn't examined my ears, nose, or throat. She rolled her eyes and said, "oh, it's one of those days," before grabbing a tongue depressor. When I asked her to wear gloves, as she had requested me to open my mouth, she threw the depressor away, declared she was done, and left. I was so shocked by this lack of care that I told the waiting people they were about to be seen by a terrible doctor. This outburst was completely unlike me. I was just so outraged. I am at a loss for words about this whole experience. I am very disappointed because this location is quite convenient for me.

The nurse practitioner Aaron was not very compassion and he told that without order from the surgeon, he cannot change a dressing. So even though my experience with the front desk was positive, this makes me question them. Overall this was a standard urgent care. I liked how quickly I could schedule an appointment and how friendly the front desk was. The issue was that the PA could not actually properly treat me because the beds don't recline at all. I had to see another specialist and pay another copay for a service I should have gotten from them. She was nice but I didn't feel like the level of care matched what I should have received.

Personally, in the year 2025, Hackettstown hospital is a great place to go to to die. That's about it. I've had several bad experiences with different nurses there. There is an ICU nurse in particular who I am absolutely horrified is involved in patient care at all. Outside of work, she drinks and drives and has a horrible drinking problem. The hospital should be monitoring her for alcohol use on the job. It's negligent that they just allow her to keep caring for patients. I wouldn't send the worst inmates in the state there, unless they were going there to die.

We sat there an additional 45 minutes. When they called for my mom I just went in the same room with her. Our test came back one flu one covid. The doctor answered a phone call while being in the room with us. She also asked me about my other health issue and then went into her husband health issues with the same thing as mine for about 15 minutes. Which was reassuring and fine but not for 15 minutes. At the end of the visit she didn't prescribed me anything for the flu because she believed I was at the end of it. The next day I woke up and decided to get an at home test because I didn't believe that I had the flu. I actually tested positive for Covid also went to my regular doctor and I tested positive for Covid there. Moral of the story is that it was very unprofessional that the doctor answered a phone call in the middle of my visit and I got the wrong test results. I haven't ever had another issues at this urgent care. Just this recent time. It's hit or miss with what doctor you get. This doctor I even had to explain medical terminology to.

I arrived with my 10 year old son for his appointment and was greeted by the front desk employee, Eric. The greeting felt cold and dismissive, as though I were interrupting him rather than being welcomed as a patient. I was told that none of the required paperwork had been completed online and that I needed to fill everything out, even though my wife had made the appointment. Wanting to avoid conflict, I calmly agreed and sat down to complete the forms. At that point, my son quietly commented to me that the employee was being rude. After turning in the paperwork, I was abruptly asked for my insurance card, followed by my ID--neither of which were mentioned upfront. Each request required me to repeatedly get up and return to the desk, which added to my growing frustration. I was then informed of a copay amount that appeared to be higher than expected. When I politely asked whether this visit was considered a specialist visit, I was told it was not. I then reasonably questioned why the co-pay matched my specialist rate. The response I received was dismissive: I was told that "the screen" determined the charge and that any issue was my responsibility to take up with my insurance company. Throughout this interaction, I felt as though I was being treated as an inconvenience rather than a long standing customer. The lack of basic courtesy was surprising and disappointing, especially in a healthcare setting. I asked to speak with the manager and was told she was not present. When I asked how to contact her, I was given vague directions to a crowded card display and left to search for her card myself while the employee stood by visibly irritated. I made a conscious effort to remain calm, especially because my son was with me. Once past the front desk, the remainder of the visit went smoothly, and the medical staff treated us kindly and professionally, which I greatly appreciated. I have never written a review before, but this interaction was upsetting enough that I felt compelled to speak up and post my feelings on many local media outlets. Respect and basic manners matter, particularly when dealing with families and children, shouldn't be a lot to ask from an organization that cares. Sadly, due to this experience, we will no longer be returning to AFC Denville after such a dreadful experience. Maybe the most ironic part of this was the waiting room was entirely empty when I went in and when leaving still empty.
