The chocolate here is very good. They have a nice variety of milk and dark chocolate, in a variety of toppings and fillings. Staff are helpful, answering questions and making suggestions. On a suggestion from a co-worker, we headed over to grab a few treats. Who doesn't the sweet smells of chocolates coming through the door? We were warmly greeted and didn't really know where to begin, the different variations of chocolate put a big smile on our faces. We were offered to sample some since we had never been there, and boy we weren't disappointed. You can tell by the taste the love and care they put into the chocolates. I opted for a variety of different chocolates and was not disappointed, I tried to save some for my husband to try, but once I got back to the office I couldn't resist and had already eaten a few pieces and they boy were they delicious. This is a hidden gem that I am so happy I found. A nice treat for yourself, or someone you love! I must have passed Newtown Chocolatier a thousand times, but for some reason never thought about stopping in. Pretty odd actually since me and my entire household loves a good piece of chocolate. Well, the other day I happened to see their 'open' sign as I was making a 3 point turn and decided to stop in. My first impression was a positive one. The have a very quaint showroom and a solid collection of chocolates which are all made in house. You can go with individual pieces, pre made gift boxes or custom made ones. After perusing a bit it I decided to pick up a gift box of 15 pieces for some family that was staying with us and another one for us to destroy. The quality turned out to be fantastic. Pricing is a bit in the steep side, but it's still pretty fair in my opinion since the chocolate is so good. read more

Who am I kidding? I just went into Newtown Chocolatier to pick up some Peanut Butter Cups and Pecan Turtles for my son to bring to his grandparents for Easter. While I was at it I asked the kind woman behind the counter if they had any broken pieces available. She went into the back room and came out with a box of Milk Chocolate Strips. This business is outstanding. My family had enjoyed the many types of chocolate hand made at the Newtown Chocolatier.

Was never so disappointed in purchasing chocolates as a gift. Went to Newtown Chocolatier to purchase a Christmas gift for my mother. Since there was not much of a selection on the shelves, went with having an assortment of a 1 pound hand picked chocolate variety. Selection was not that great. Blah! They wanted $1.80, I believe, per piece, for a creamed chocolate variety, such as a butter cream. Seriously!! The way the chocolates were just placed one on top of another in the box with no individual wrappers, was ridiculous when they charged $26.00, plus tax, for a one pound box of candy. Appearance of candies in the box was very unattractive, let alone not appetizing at all. Didn't even put Christmas wrap on it, just a ribbon. Truthfully, the only reason I went there was because I wasn't able to get a See's candy delivery by Christmas. See's has much better chocolates, and they present their candies nicely, which means a lot. Lesson learned, don't go by the name! read more

Newtown's best kept secret. Wow. I would compare the quality and flavors to that of what you would find in Switzerland. Each and every piece made here is even better than the last. I love to stop by for some chocolates that I usually give as gifts. They offer a beautiful presentation. I recently purchased a solid chocolate bunny for my son's Easter basket but it was so good that I ended up eating the whole head so I had to chop it up so he wouldn't notice. I really don't want to rave too much, because I'd hate it if they got too popular and raised their prices. But I'm a chocolate fanatic, and I have had a lot of fancy chocolates in my day. This place is as good or better than all of them. They have their regular candies (I particularly like the chocolate covered pretzels and the caramel pecan clusters) and then their more expensive gourmet candies, which change on a regular basis but are consistently superb. One year I bought candies for Christmas for people--one box got utterly destroyed in the heat (CA), but the others were gratefully and adoringly received. This is a real find for a suburban store. I just came back from a trip to Portland and their Moonstruck Chocolate--which was divine. But no better than the Newtown Chocolatier. read more

I found this gem of a store thanks to a groupon and let me tell you i was blown away with the quality of their chocolate. I went with a 48 piece box and we finished it within 1 week. The dark chocolate pieces were some of the best ive had. I look forward to returning. read more

I must admit, the chocolates are very good. Nice selection of chocolates. But, the real drawback for me is the grumpy staff. When I shopped there on Christmas Eve, the staff was absolutely rude. I was buying two boxes of truffles (not inexpensive) and I could not read the sign (on a small frame placed on the wall behind the counter) as to the size of the boxes and prices. The person helping me didn't even help when I told her I couldn't read the sign. I chose a medium size, and before chocolates were even placed in it, decided for the larger. The staff person actually complained that she would have to reach down and get a different size box!! Then, began the transaction by saying, 'Well??" I remained pleasant but, while my transaction was being rung up, noticed other patrons were also being treated brusquely by other staff. Walking out, I inquired of another customer if he thought they were grumpy and he wholeheartedly agreed. I will not be returning and, instead, will go to Uncle Ed's in Pennington, NJ. read more
