Newt's North lived up to its reputation. I had Marvin's Burger - a hand-pattied, fresh seasoned burger cooked to perfection, topped with cheddar cheese, hickory bacon, and chipotle mayo. It was amazing - definitely one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Rather than fries, I opted for their onion rings, and am so glad I did. If you're an onion ring fan, you can't get better. These bad boys are made fresh and coated with Newt's own beer batter. These are not some frozen onion rings, or rings with that nasty crumb coating. These are the real deal. They remained crisp throughout my meal. The meal was stellar. The place was busy and had a good vibe. Our server was very responsive and kept us hydrated. Roll was great and burger better. just order one level more of cooking than you usually do coworker had Jucy Lucy. They describe it as A Burger-Lover's Dream! I didn't order it but they have probably the craziest burger I've ever seen on a menu, the Fatty Melt, which is a cheeseburger wrapped in two grilled cheeses and some other crazy stuff that I can't remember right now. Wow. They also have an insane bloody mary that comes with a hard boiled egg, a slider, and like 4 other things attached to it on a skewer. Crazy! We ordered a cheeseburger, which they have been repeatedly voted as the best in Rochester, as well as one of the top 12 in the state. I wasn't that impressed. We were told rare was bloody, medium was extra pink and well was just a bit of pink on the inside. We ordered the burger medium and there was no pink to be seen, it was more of a well done burger. Also, if you order anything to go on it (pickles and onions in this case) you have to build it yourself. They also only have mayo packets, and I like cold mayo. Also, there wasn't a lot of cheese on it, if I ever get another I'll order extra cheese. The burger wasn't bad, but for $10, in my opinion you can go to Snappy Stop in Rochester and get a burger that's better for like $3. The appetizers were great though. We got cheese curds and onion rings. They both have a nice, light batter on them. The onions were thick and the cheese curds were nice and soft. I think next time we'll try the fish tacos (they sounded really good and I've been looking for a good fish taco) and get some more apps. Definitely recommend, just don't get your hopes too high for the burger, I think they are definitely overrated. Solid dining experience though. read more

Newts had good hamburgers, as long as you ask for lettuce and tomatoes. I don't know why that is not part of all hamburgers. Without the lettuce and tomatoes they would get 3 starts. It makes that big of a difference. Oh yes, don't forget the onions. For breakfast they used to have pancakes stuffed with bacon. They were the best. I was not happy with my first visit to this restaurant. We utilized the cautious curbside pickup during COVID, and our food was delivered to us covered in spilled containers of ranch dressing. Cleaning ranch dressing off our to go boxes in the car with one napkin, unable to flag down the food runner, was a sour start of the meal, but then our burgers were *badly* overcooked. I was surprised we were not asked how we would like our burgers cooked on the phone, but in no world should a burger be cooked until it's pure rubber. Went to this location for breakfast on a Saturday Morning. The pancakes were good and I asked for bacon crispy which came out good. Got a sandwich with grilled cheese sausage, egg, and bacon it was good but I took the bacon off because it was not cooked to a crisp and I removed the sausage and ate it separately because it took over the flavor of the egg and cheese....The tator tots that came with this sandwich were phenomenal and they were served alongside a little dish of melted cheese sauce....I scarfed that right up...yummmm They did not offer any hot tea and i'm sorry if you going to do breakfast you need tea and not just coffee.... The prices are a little on the higher side for breakfast and they didn't appear to offer any basic less expensive specials.... As soon as we entered, they greeted us with endless popcorn and delightful scents of greasy bar food; there is no easier way to win over my heart. This is not the Newt's of old, pre COVID times. This place made the iconic Minnesota Juicy Lucy burger with the cheese inside! I spend some time in this town, eat out lots, and had a hankering for my super Lucy burger. I was really excited to try this place because I heard the food was really good! It definitely was! However, there was some miscommunication with my order, I ordered the patty melt and the waitress asked me how I wanted to cooked and I told her medium rare. When my order arrived though, it was the Newt's Fatty Melt (which is right under the Party melt). I was concerned that I was maybe delivered the wrong order and when I inquired with my waitress she told me that that was what I ordered and that she even asked me twice to clarify what I wanted. She didn't, she only asked me how I wanted my order cooked. She was immediately defensive and rude about it. She did offer to put in the patty melt for me, but I simply told her that it was just a miscommunication and that it was not a big deal. The Fatty melt was good, just a lot more food than I was wanting. The service is why I gave this place 4 stars. The food was good (even though it wasn't what I originally wanted). I enjoy the music here most of all - really markets to my generation. I wanted to speak out and talk about their breakfast! I drove by and saw the parking lot full on a Saturday morning, used yelp.com to look them up and call to ask if they were truly open, and learned about the breakfast! The Newt's pancakes are always filling. Also, on one Sunday, I came in and sat at the bar because it was so packed - and I had fresh squeezed orange juice by the bartender who put it in a chilled beer glass and it was heaven. (Not even a mimosa!) My friend likes their bloody marys too. I'd actually give it 4.5 stars if I could - because it's really quite good, but when they're busy, the service slows down and the parking lot fills up. Also, they need a better waiting area. That time I ate breakfast at the bar, I swear people were hovering so close behind me, I thought I was going to have to protect my bacon as they seemed to be drooling and staring at my food. Mind you the food just got to the table. Then she asked if we were ready for the bill as she sets it on the table. The wait staff rushed us to leave right away. We paid the bill as she takes our dishes away. We couldn't take the super rushed attitude that was forced upon us. As we were putting our coats on after we stood up from the table the wait staff was already cleaning the rest of the table. I would have liked another drink of water before we left the table. We go there quite often, more for the cheese curds than anything else, as they are almost always yummy. As to the quality of the rest of the menu, in a word, inconsistent. Seasoning on burgers? Inconsistent! Today might be spot on, tomorrow over seasoned, next day no seasoning at all. The biggest disappointment is usually the fries. Again inconsistent. Maybe once out of 5 visits they'll be nice, hot, and crispy. More often they're limp, and sometimes don't taste the best, and salt is nonexistent. If they could just be consistent, maybe the Marvin could be named "Best Burger " in town again, but they have a way to go! read more

We stopped in to experience the best burgers in Rochester. Weeellll.... I liked the bowl of popcorn that we munched on while looking over the menu. I got a cheddar cheeseburger with a side salad. I thought that the burger didn't have very good flavor. My husband got a Jucy Lucy and was SUPPOSED to get a side salad but got fries instead. He said that the cheese was almost nonexistent. Our daughter got a Mac and cheese melt and she liked it although it was messy. We hold our burger standards to the Nook/Shamrocks, House of Coates, and Kings to name a few off the top of my head.
