We then shared the pierogies. Not sure if they were homemade or not, but they were definitely not the standard Mrs. T's. I loved how they put the potato pierogies on a bed of sauerkraut. It was the best of both worlds. If I had one complaint, I'd say the sauerkraut was a bit too sweet for my liking. But it was still good. For the main course, we shared a fish sandwich. No complaints here. A nice piece of fish served on a fresh bun with good fries.

When I asked the hotel clerk where she recommended I could get dinner, she pointed to this place. Rebel that I was, I didn't follow her advice and went instead to a middling sushi spot further down the street. On the bitterly cold walk back to the hotel, I decided to stop in. Sitting at the cocktail bar, the place was quite crowded, and unfortunately they were counting down to their trivia night. Even though I was an undefeated Silver Screen Trivial Pursuit champion in my youth, I took a pass on the contest. Instead I had the $11 Espresso Martini, a mix of vodka, coffee liqueur, and cold brew in a can (Photo 6). It was basically what I wanted for a nightcap. As I took my last gulp, the trivia started. But I do:)) So I went and asked if she bent it she lied and told me no, to which I corrected her and told her we know she did (his id is brand new and it says it on there). Her reason is "PA IDs don't bend" I said i understand but this isn't a Pa id and informed her of the 3 main ways to know it is real also told her to make a google search. She refused to check it again and said she didn't need to serve him. (Which I know is true) At the end of the day you do not do this to someone's GOVERNMENT documents‍ mind u the owner was right there the whole time and both of them tried to tell me no one bent it and grab it out of my hands I was showing them. The drive is beautiful, especially on a sunny day in the fall. The leaves are incredible. As you're driving winding roads along Wills Creek, Hillbilly Haven pops out of nowhere. You'll see plenty of pick-up trucks, four-wheelers and side-by-sides. What you get: is an absolutely quintessential dark, country, dive bar. Beloved by locals, they have pool tables, a small live music and dance area inside and a really nice outside area in the back. You'll meet some of the nicest people. Just remember-it is a local country bar and when in Rome... Here's the big draw-oh my goodness, the food! People come from miles away to get take-out. The wings are perfectly seasoned no matter the sauce/rub, juicy but crisp. The Hillbilly Deluxe burger puts a Big Mac to shame. The smoked meats are done on site by people who really know what they're doing. If you're looking for a Saturday or Sunday road trip on a pretty day and some terrific food, find Hillbilly Haven. riser's is a place everyone needs to visit if they want to get the taste of connellsville. yes,…read moreit's a dive. yes, someone was stabbed here. yes, there are no beers on tap. and yes, the crowd ranges from middle aged rednecks to young hippies to bikers. but it's a fun place! first of all, it's cheap. lori, my favorite bartender, is a sweetheart. and there's kareoke every thursday-sunday. if you're a connellsvillian barfly, riser's is where you usually end up after some of the other bars close, because i have never ever seen this place close early. i've had some great times here, but you really have to like dives, or at least connellsville, to appreciate riser's pub.
