I was in a panic as moving day approached and a kind friend gave me Coleen's name and the number of her business Next Step Home. She was so understanding and mobilized an amazing team in record time. Four of the kindest and incredibly competent women came over and they were amazing! They brought supplies and flew through my house, packing with efficiency and great care. They were so compassionate as they worked, asking my preferences, labeling boxes and color coding all the boxes which made the move so much smoother. They took sensitive documents I wanted to discard to shred, and Coleen picked up unwanted items and brought them to the dump. I was so happy that I hired them and it was well worth the money. Colleen and Amy helped me move my 81-year-old father from his old farmhouse full of things into my home across the country in Seattle. And she did it safely in the middle of the pandemic when I could not come out and help. They were efficient and helpful with managing every aspect of the move making it painless for me and for my dad. Not an easy task, as my father had accumulated a huge amount of STUFF over the years that he had packed in around himself. They were wonderful for me to work with, Colleen stayed in contact throughout the process and they both seemed to genuinely enjoy hanging out with my dad, making it more agreeable to him. Do Not even let this nosiness, Next Step Home, Colleen Mountford and/or anyone having any relationship with this company near you or your home. Colleen has got be the biggest bully we've ever met. At first she comes off as a nice caring person and she says all the words you want to hear to lure you in. Remember she worked in Social Services so she knows how to manipulate people and she's very good at it, so beware. She's very pushy, thinks she knows it all and lies very often; we have solid legal proof of that. She takes advantage of those who are vulnerable with her pushy, bullying persuasive ways, makes you feel like she is the best thing that came into your life, then comes the letdown. After having high hopes we were so let down it actually hurt us in many ways. The ultimate disappointment is when you find out what she's really like and you've had your hopes up that this was going to be a great thing then she starts insulting you, making you feel like a disease, not comforting at all with her rhetoric, then she does a 360 after she has your money, which she is very very overpriced and tries to tell you she's giving you a deal when that is so not true. Do your homework; she's not the only game in town, in fact the others and one I just hired today is a lovely lady who was appalled when she heard with this one did to me. And she's certified!! Next Step-Colleen is not certified so watch out there. These other services we called were not only much lower in price but nicer, more educated people who are truly genuine and not manipulative as Colleen Mountford and Next Step is. If I were you I'd run the other way and don't even call this place. We told her we did have another appointment on that date (we had two thinking we only had the one) and she told us to call and lie to cancel. We stupidly did it and that entity was very hurt by our cancellation and we lost a good opportunity with them due to this woman. She kept telling us she wouldn't get to us for at least another month, again another manipulation to get our money and she did as she's very good at that. We told her we were in no rush. She said, "I'm doing you a big favor so take what you can get." We HAD to cancel her as the appointment we had on that day could not be cancelled and we had no control over that. We asked her for our deposit $1,300 back and she not only cursed us out, said terrible things about us, again bullied us and pertly said, you'll get your money after next Monday! We got it the next Friday (1+1/2 weeks from when we gave it to her) but it was missing $300 from it. We're not only handicapped, on a fixed income and trying to sell our house that we cannot afford to prevent us from going into foreclosure and she knew this and still is trying to keep our $300. We bring in a total of $1,188 per month and our house taxes alone costs us $900 per month so you can see we have very little left and she took a good chuck of the little we had left. We're in the process of suing her to get our money back (thank God that will only cost $10-$20 to sue. Oh, by the way she bullied and pushed her way telling us how busy she was yet also said she had to do this fast so she pushed us into booking within the next 2 days! Who does that? Sounds like desperation to me and now she has my $300. What a creep. Turned out the date she rushed us into (2 days later!!) taking an appointment which did not work out for us but we felt we had to take her date. We didn't realize we had another appointment for that day and it was a foreigner who didn't understand American ways and did not communicate better with us. We made a mistake and accepted her to come the next two days which is absurd. We told her it was no rush. She said, "I'm doing you a big favor so take what you can get." We HAD to cancel as it was something we had no control over and now she took $300 from us. We're not only handicapped, on a fixed income and trying to sell our house that we cannot afford to prevent us going into foreclosure and she knew that but thinks she's keeping our $300. We're in the process of suing her to get our money back as the law is clear that anyone has 3 days after signing a contract and leaving a deposit to back out of that contract within the three business days and that is what we had to do. We should never have given her so much money as a down payment. Not one of the three (3) other organizations we consulted with are asking that much money 30% of the enormous final bill and they never asked for a deposit let alone a 30%, $1,300 deposit and for what? They also know of the three (3) days NYS law to pull out of a contract.
