I rented through expedia, which I do often. Thankfully the insurance I paid for on there worked. The wait time for the shuttle and to actually get the car were super long. But, here's the issues. A $250 rental went to $483+ real quick. Nextcar charged me $100 to put my husband as an extra driver, even though I told them he would be the only driver. They didn't care, it was originally my name. Then I told It was $12 a day to use their sun pass even if you only did $.50 I said I have ezpass through my state she said oh just use that and IF it picks up on our end you'll get charged $14.99 but that doesn't happen often....I was just changing $131!! $14.99 a day plus the $33 in tolls. We rent cars often, this is the worst experience. If you are trying to save money with the cheap rental, so not do it. I go to Orlando a lot and I booked form this company through Expedia. I told them I have my own insurance and the receptionist would not release the car to me if I didn't pay $250 (Waiver Fee) to use my own insurance on top of what I already had paid Expedia which was the full amount. I had to get it because I would loose my full payment and we were tired from the red eye flight. I called Expedia and they couldn't do nothing about it. After 30 days I called back and I was told that weekends were not included in counting the amount of days that have passed. After 30 week days, multiple emails and phone calls, THIS COMPANY HAS BECOME UNRESPONSIVE. It has now been 60 days and they are STILL unresponsive to any request for an update on my refund. I want my money back now. I paid what Next Car wanted for the rental, I took care of the car and didn't damage it, I returned it on time, and with a full tank of gas. First of all, be aware, this is an off site car rental from Orlando airport, they are about 5 miles away from the airport, you have to take their bus. This is fine. When I got their office, they said that only insurance companies on their own list are acceptable and it is mandatory to show them your insurance documents. Fine, my insurance is on the list and I showed their my coverages on my app. However, they said I still have to buy their insurance because my deductible is too high?! My deductible is $500 , which is the standard coverage I believe. Since I already booked them from Priceline and there is no where to go, they are far from the airport, so I have no choice but paid the extra insurance to get the car. Where do I start! First business is to state that one star is far to generous to give this absolutely horrible company. Secondly, we will ALWAYS read reviews before booking rental cars. Oh if it only had stopped there...this was the good part, only we didn't know it. So we arrive at the Next Car Rental facility around 10:15-20pm. And the parking lot look like the southern boarder. Ppl everywhere, sitting on luggage and waiting for their car rentals. Some were actually waiting for other car rental companies because they refused to use this company. We are extensive travelers and travel many times a year, so this was not our first rodeo! So we went in and up to the counter and were met by an extremely rude attendant, later to find out was the manager. The manager starts by telling us he needs to charge a credit card for $500 for incidentals. "$500 freaking dollars", I say in the most tolerated tone manageable at the time. "Our policy", he says. Then asks for proof of insurance, not your current POI card btw, but wants proof from provider's website of policy declarations and premiums of the actual policy. I said, "What for?! We've never been asked for this information"! "Our policy.", he says again in a condescending tone. At that point my wife had to take over and I just came back to sign documents. Got the car and headed back to the hotel. Just drop the car off and once again, southern boarder hoard waiting on rides to the airport. Again only one transport available that only took 12. Knowing the crap-show we came into, we showed up several hours before our flight was due out! Good thing...a lot of the ppl waiting on the shuttle (about 10 parties) had to call Ubers or risk missing their flights! So to end this nightmare...rode the shuttle with a man and his daughter that had arrived a few days after us and his story was worse than ours. Next Car Rental called the police on him because he said he wasn't leaving until he had the rental they promised him. Once again, the manager, determined that he was through with this travel and cancelled his are at the window. Apparently, Next Car Rental also determines how much deposit, they're going to charge, by the customer. Agree with all the one-star reviews. The insurance is the worst part. In my case, I have liability insurance and use my credit card's collision coverage. I was told I had to pick one (liability or collision) and pay for the other. So my $50 rental turned into a $200 rental. I thought about walking away, but their Ft. Lauderdale site is not at the airport rental center. You have to take the airport shuttle from the terminal to the rental center and then wait for the One Switch shuttle to take you to their location. There was then a long wait, and by the time I was finding everything out, I was exhausted and just gave in. Also, by the way, they don't take American Express, which is very 20th Century, as today businesses use Stripe, Square, and the like. Amex is no more expensive to merchants than other credit cards. We arrived after midnight, and the lady working was not very clear nor helpful. Each person in front of us and behind us would go through a whole ordeal with the lady. Things would not be found and extra charges that were very high and not told of before would be charged. I have done other car rentals and have never had this many issues. We had to cancel our car. Lastly they scam you on the administrative fees of $14.99 per day plus the tolls even though you have your own transponder pass and they happily tell you to go ahead and use your pass and you will not be charged a penny until a week later after you have returned the car, you get a charge on your credit card for $150 like I did and then if you contact them, they will do a runaround and talk to you about everything under the sun except for the $150 charge. When I complained they said I had paid with Pesos from a Mexican bank without even bothering to check my drivers license which clearly showed that I was an US citizen from IL They are very discriminatory, racist and try to profile you as per their limited thinking. They even had the audacity to promise me a refund then turned around the next day and deny the whole thing. I watched them treat several customers the exact same as I was treated and to say I was angry at 11:30pm with two small children and luggage, stroller, and car seat.
