Scam Artists
Kyle S.

Brief Summary: This is a predatory Orlando business targeting travelers. Upon arrival they tell travelers they cannot honor their original car rental reservation and must instead make a new reservation at the current day rate, which is hundreds of dollars higher. Details: The car rental agency operates under the following names: MEX rent a car, NEXTCAR, Facility rent a car. Zoom rental car, Stride rent a car. While they use a variety of names, in reality it is all the same business and location. When travelers arrive, the perpetrators will claim that their reservation wasn't processed by the original booking site (Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, Booking.com, etc) and that they no longer have a vehicle available. They will then tell travelers they must cancel their original reservation and rebook with one of the "other companies" on site at the current daily rate, which is hundreds of dollars higher. Why it Matters: I was on the receiving end of this predatory scam and witnessed them employing the same bait and switch tactic on every other person who arrived to pick up a car. I spoke with other travelers who told me they were coerced into paying 4 to 5 times the cost of their original reservation. These were often people who couldn't afford to do so and were financially vulnerable, but felt like they had no other choice but to comply. The company poses as a reputable agency but in reality they are targeting and deceiving unwitting travelers and extorting them for higher prices when they no longer have an alternative. Impact: Travelers at the location are exhausted, vulnerable, and still being preyed upon every day. These people had small children, elderly parents, and important life events they were trying to get to. It's a scam designed to force people to accept a substantially higher rate under duress. I have never encountered a situation like this in any other city or country I've traveled to. The fact that a business like this is being allowed to continue operating in Orlando is an embarrassment to the entire city, which relies heavily upon tourism. Expedia, Priceline, Booking.com and other booking sites should remove this company's listings immediately and report the operator to the Orange County Consumer Protection Office: Email: fraudhelp@ocfl.net Phone: (407) 836-3111 2450 33rd St., 2nd FL Orlando, 32839-8726 https://www.orangecountyfl.net/NeighborsHousing/ConsumerProtection.aspx

ALL of us stranded outside NEXTCAR (aka Mexi-rental) when we did not get a car that we RESERVED.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU DO BUSINESS with this company. This is completely unacceptable! I paid for my reservation to Expedia, and NEXTCAR cancelled my reservation as I stood in front of their register. We had NO vehicle for the duration of our stay in Orlando during Christmas week. Every company we tried was sold out. (Avis, Hertz, etc) I did not cancel my reservation. The agent told us we needed add'l insurance, even though we were covered by our credit card. This seemed SCAMMY.. Then he said we had to pay a $2500 DEPOSIT, and brought out a CC swiper machine FROM THE BACK OFFICE! My husband snapped a pic of the guy & he got mad & HE cancelled our reservation! On the spot! We had no car for our trip. We LYFTed to our destination. This company is a fraud, and EXPEDIA is the middle man. I wish Id read the review on GOOGLE. Nearly every review says it's a scam. They go by several names- NEXT CAR , Mexi-Rentals & Stride is the company that emailed me. Why is Expedia booking our reservations through this horrible company? How can Expedia be trusted? We were among at least 4 other parties of people left stranded at the site. I am nearly certain that this company that Expedia does business with is illegal. I have photos of employees & all the customers that were left stranded for the holidays.

This agent was so rude and slow!!

SCAM BEWARE!!!!! They are scamming people here! I've never gone to a rental car and had them tear apart my car insurance. They took pictures of my entire policy and also declined to give us a car unless we paid for their insurance. They made me and my kids all wait in there for over 2 hours! DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THEM! The "good" reviews are all fake!!! Real people know this place is GARBAGE!!!!

Original booking fee minus security deposit

Two weeks later, still waiting on my security deposit refund ?! Never mind the rest of my complaints, can't get through to anyone, no replies to emails to them or the corporate co.

0 stars! Worst rental car service I've ever encountered! Scam artists! We paid online through Priceline and that was a huge mistake. The employee who waited on us was no different than Miss Cleo. We were exhausted from our flight and travels and just wanted to get in our car and go to our hotel. That took about 45 minutes unfortunately. She tried to sell us on this and that, which was annoying af! Everything was pre-paid and all she should have asked for was ID and proof of insurance. She then lies to us and tells us that we will need an EZ pass as there are a lot of tolls and it's worth it. So we paid $55 for a pass that we literally passed through two tolls that would have cost us $6. Disgusting! We asked for a refund for that lie, but we never received it. I hate scammers and this place employees nothing but them. They also overcharged us for gas after we prepaid for it because we knew we wouldn't be able to fill up before due to shuttle service, early travels, and the time our flight boarded. Their pick up service at the airport is lengthy and they also expect a tip. lol. The price you see and the price you pay are totally different! You're better off renting a car at the airport. Stay far and clear from this place!

receipt with totally different and exorbitant security deposit cost

We recently used Fox rentals through Expedia. First of all,…read morebeware that they are NOT located at the airport. The shuttle runs during "business hours" which is listed as 5am-12:30. (Another traveler had to call them after our 12am arrival flight even though they expressly say they shuttle and allowed us to book a 12:30am pickup time. We even provided our flight information to them) The shuttle driver made it sound like they were doing us a favor by "staying late" and had a $5 bill sticking out of the dash so we all knew he was accepting tips. We get there and we had booked the rental in my Husbands name, using my mother's card (she and I handled the itinerary for the trip.) Although we purchased the additional insurance through Expedia, Fox required that we also purchase insurance through them at another $15.40 per day. The fees will absolutely floor you, but we will get to that later. They wanted a credit card on file (or a debit card as long as they could put a $1000 hold on it) for incidentals. They wouldn't accept a credit card from my mother, it had to be the in the booked drivers name. We asked to switch the booked driver to my mother, nope they COULD NOT do that. They did offer to REBOOK under my mom's name, but not until the following "morning" at 3x the cost. Eventually my husband just gave them his card, they charged a random amount, but said they'd just do $750- they charged us $775.45 the additional fees the charged us conveniently added up to $275.45, so he was refunded $500.00 on the dot. This was not explained to us, we were told it was just a hold for incidentals. They said nothing about the charges they knew they were charging us coming out at the ends but obviously that's what the plan was. My god THE FEES!! Fees for the privilege of using their license plates In the state of Florida PER DAY, fees for "energy recovery" PER DAY (for them to vacuum the carpet and wipe down the dash),A BUS ACCESS FEE Because they let you use their "free shuttle." A "PRIVILEGE FEE RECOVERY" that they pay the airport and then pass on to the customer for the privilege of operating their business "at the airport." (Reminder we had to be shuttled from the airport and nearly didn't have a chance to check in. If they didn't "stay late" and the other traveler hadn't called, we would have been in a world of trouble! And they're also charging a bus access fee, so seems like a double dip to me. No "at the airport" privileges but all the cost of them!) A daily cost for "PlatePass Inc" although I'm pretty certain we only went on roads that required tolls on two different days. We weren't offered anything other than this. (I highly recommend looking into alternative options on your own, they're not trying to help you AT ALL! There may be a way to buy your own transponder, I saw some at Publix but I have no idea how they work) No one went out with us to look over the vehicle to see if there were any damages prior to us taking it. I took all around pictures and videos so they'd be time stamped incase it became an issue. When we got back, no one looked over the vehicle with us. They had us leave it with the keys on the dash. The shuttle driver was rushing us to get on the shuttle so he could depart for the airport. The whole thing was so strange--- even the non-descript pick up Places had a ton of people there that loaded into unmarked sprinter vans. VANS THAT MY HUSBAND AND MOTHER WERE GOING TO GET INTO BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WAS FOX! Their shuttles are clearly marked but at the time we didn't know that (and for all I know those sprinter vans were Fox!) I would recommend saving yourself the headache and making sure you can conduct your business at the airport. I fully believe the nominal savings we thought we had using Fox was not worth the headache the "what ifs" (what if another traveler hadn't called to have a shuttle sent to us at 12:10-12:15 when they hadn't planned on sending a shuttle for the 12am arrival?? What if they got into a sprinter van thinking it was Fox's shuttle? What if they tried to charge us for dents/dings already on the vehicle?) and we actually ended up paying more than we thought we had in savings. The vehicle itself was okay, it definitely seemed like it has been used and abused. We babied it- but all functionalities seemed to work just fine. All and all we learned our lesson . Now that we know what to expect, I'll definitely take it into consideration for future trips requiring a rental vehicle.

Our experience with Fox was disappointing due to issues during pickup. We felt that Roya either did…read morenot fully understand the process or was attempting to add unnecessary charges to our reservation. We were repeatedly offered services and insurance options that we had already paid for through Expedia. Even after declining additional services multiple times, there was continued pressure, with items being added "just in case" we changed our minds. We ended up leaving with an additional $459 in charges and later had to return to explain that we had already purchased extra coverage through Expedia. We also received a lower-class vehicle than the one we originally booked. Although Roya was apologetic and removed one insurance charge, she stated that we had received an upgrade. From our perspective, we had already paid for that level of vehicle from the beginning. Overall, we feel we paid significantly more than expected for unnecessary add-ons that were not clearly explained or removed. It is unfortunate because every other part of the experience was good, but because of this situation, we would not choose Fox again.

When I pulled up, we were greeted with, "You are late and we are charging you a late fee!" It caught me off guard to be greeted in this manner. I explained to the young girl that I picked up the care at 1pm and paid for a full 8 days and that usually means returning the next day by 1pm was still fully paid. I am bringing it back using only 5 hours on the last day. She immediately shot back and said "you stated 6pm on your return time and it is 7:04pm and I am charging you 2 hours late". When I said, "Serious?' She said, "Yeah I am serious, you heard me". I asked for a manager to speak with and she said I could call or go inside. I was on my way to catch a flight and had no time to go to the rental car desk and find a manager. Hopefully, someone sees this and can help with the customer service on the return side of the business. I know some of these young kids are not used to talking to adults, but if you do not know how to speak to customers, do not put these employees in those positions.

She remained out for the next five days and I cycled through various managers who promised to get back to me. On Tuesday (7 days later) I was told no items had been turned in and that they would open a claim and check the cameras and get back to me within 24 hours. No return call, no update. I called today and they made the mistake of picking up the phone. I identified who I was and explained why I was calling amd was met with "Oh I can't really hear you, I'll call you back." My experience was horrible from start to finish. I waited at the airport for over 35 minutes for the shuttle to arrive. Once I got to ACE Rent A Car, there were only two associates working with a line of customers waiting.I was given a white Kia that appeared fine during the initial inspection, but immediately after driving away, a low tire pressure warning came on. I had to return right away. They put air in the tire and assured me everything was fine. After getting to my hotel and parking, I noticed the tire was flat again -- the PSI had dropped to 10, which is extremely unsafe. I tried contacting customer service and was left on hold for over 40 minutes multiple times before the call disconnected. I finally reached an associate named Katherine, who told me to go put air in the tire at a gas station and drive the vehicle back because their roadside driver was "in the hospital."At 10:30 PM, I had to drive 25 minutes back with a dangerous tire issue just to exchange the vehicle. During the replacement process, Katherine was rude, texting and taking selfies while helping me sign documents. No accommodations, discount, or real apology were offered. Instead, she laughed and mentioned that the same thing had happened to someone else earlier.I could go on and on about this experience, but please save yourself the stress, time, and money and avoid renting from this place. I've reached out to customer Service and I still haven't received a reply .

I made a reservation and included my Dollar Express membership number. This was apparently ignored. I speak to the agent at the Express counter int he garage, who tells me that no, she can't look up my number (because my rental is "prepaid," see?), and now my family and I and all our belongings have to go back to the terminal to get my car. Once there, we get to wait in a huuuuge line, because they only have 2 rental agents, who apparently have to negotiate the Magna Carta with each passenger. Literally, it took longer for me (a repeat customer and "Dollar Express" member) to get my pre-paid, pre-arranged rental car in Orlando, than it did for me to FLY TO ORLANDO IN THE FIRST PLACE. I get that staffing shortages are an issue, but it's not like they don't know when people are coming for their cars. They have reservation times, flight numbers, and everything! Why is it so hard to plan for people arriving to pick up cars, when they tell you, days in advance? And why even require a "negotiation" at the rental counter? You already have my credit card. I'm happy to provide a driver's license number when I register. Just let me be on my way already. Airlines handle more complicated transactions through a kiosk. Also, their PlatePass (pre-paid tolls) is a ripoff - just get yourself a SunPass at any grocery store in Florida. (Seriously $54? For what? And why can't you just bill through for any tolls? You already have the license plate, credit card, and time of pickup and return. It's not rocket science.) Returning the car at the airport, there is barely anyone to help direct traffic (no more room in the return lanes!), never mind checking in your car and providing a receipt. Having gone 0 for 2 with Dollar between LAX and MCO, I'm now in "fool me twice, shame on you" territory. I don't care how cheap the rental is, it's not worth it.
