I visited the Moxies Bar and Grill in Richmond Hill for a company Xmas dinner. Our group was seated in the heated and enclosed patio area. There were a team of dedicated servers helping our table. The server was knowledgeable with the wine list and provided her recommendations for white wine. I ended up ordering the Kim Crawford Sauvignon blanc. It was dry white wine with some fruity notes. I'm not a big wine drinker but I really enjoyed it. We had a set menu which included a small appetizer soup or caesar salad. I ordered the coconut chicken soup and it was a delight. The soup was definitely Thai influenced and the bamboo shoots, chicken and coconut was a perfect medley of ingredients. It was almost like a green curry. We also ordered beef nachos, crispy calamari and goat cheese and bread dip. All the appetizers were pretty good no complaints here. I ordered the Chipotle mango chicken based on my positive experience before. I must say the dish was really good but the one I had in Moxies Pickering was outstanding. The chicken lacked the deep grill charred marks and was not piping hot. Usually the plates are really hot when they are brought out. The plate was only warm to the touch. The bite of white chocolate brownie was decadent and was great finale for our meal. I ordered a cappuccino to cap off the meal. One critique would be the lack of refilling the waters on our table. The restaurant definitely had an attractive crowd and people were happy and enjoying their drinks and food. It was a little bit difficult to talk inside as the sound insulation in the patio was poor. When you travel for work, it's great to find a place that does things with variety to make sure everyone likes their food. Moxies is the place! It feels higher end but the prices are realistic. I've been there twice and have chosen the chimichurri steak salad both times. By the way, not usually a salad person but it was that good! Their sweet potato fries are great, too. Came here for lunch on a weekend with some friends. The service was great, our server was nice and patient while waiting for us to decide what to order. I think their prices are a bit lower compared to other places like Joey's. We ordered a sweet potato fries for appetizer and I got a chicken fettuccine pasta with no onions. I think there could be more of an improvement for the fries, the portion should definitely be bigger for the price of $11. The last time I visited this Moxie's was back in 2018 for my dad's retirement. Came back last night to celebrate my sister-in-law's bday w/ my fam. The layout was the same as I remember. Some of the menu items have been modified slightly (for example, the smashed avocado dip used to come w/ a mortar and pestle to the table, pre-covid, so the customer could smash the guac themselves). The mahi mahi used to be done in a mediterranean style rather than mexican. As a whole though, the food was pretty solid! My dad's truffle parmesan fries were great. The fries were super crispy and very rich. We had also ordered some sweet potato fries which were seasoned well but were too floppy and limp (I did prefer the dill garlic dip that came w/ the sweet potato fries though). There were 2 fish dishes and they were both cooked well. My mom's mahi came w/ mashed potatoes and they were indeed very creamy. My bro ordered the prawn laksa. Tbh, it was just ok imo. The broth just didn't have the depth of flavour that you would typically get. There were also too many bean sprouts and they could've been more generous w/ the number of prawns. I had chicken rigatoni which was quite nice! I could still taste the wine in the sauce (which I'm sure was intentional) and the cheese and garlic bread was a nice touch. The chicken was a lil bit overcooked (it wasn't juicy). For dessert I had brought a birthday cake of our own from a different shop but we also ordered an additional sticky toffee pudding to share. Very tasty and decadent (I heard that they had removed it off the menu but brought it back due to popular demand)! We were served by Nema throughout the night. Very friendly, nice gentleman. Well, gave this restaurant another try. This visit was like day and night to my previous visit. On arrival we were promptly seated. Our server was very pleasant and attentive along with the other staff members. He even noticed that I had my jacket over my shoulders, and asked if I was cold and if I would like some hot water instead of the cold water. We started off with the smashed guacamole & chips. The guacamole and salsas were fresh and very tasty. This was a good starter. Beef Dip: The sandwich was good - the beef was very flavourful - real beef, not the processed type. It was mainly tender, even though there were a few pieces a bit chewy. But no real complaints. The fries were nice and crispy. Sirloin Steak: Prepared as ordered and tender for sirloin. Nice grill flavour. Served with mashed potato - creamy, buttery however but a bit salty. The green beans were done well - still had some firmness to it. (My favorite vegetable). I hardly go to franchise locations, but this really surpassed my expectations. I expected it to be average, but I suspect the more "premium" items taste better. We ordered two steaks where we requested medium rare (more on the rare side) and it was cooked perfectly. All of the side dishes were tasty; the truffle fries was an extra $3-4, but it was worth it. I enjoyed the seating environment and the staff was friendly. Considering that there's a wide selection of food, I would say it's suitable for any setting. The only thing I would suggest is for them to cut the end of the peas. I'm not sure if every moxies perform to this same level, but I would definitely recommend this one. read more

We came with a large group on Monday evening and received a warm reception to make us feel at home. They lowered the music and the heat at our request. Service was fast and pleasant to get everyone their drinks. Appetizers were deep fried pork cutlet pieces, bbq chicken wings, honey glazed chicken wings, calamari chunks and nachos, all finger licking good. Main course across the table all look delicious and my baked salmon came in cooked to perfection and over a bed of wild rice, with lots of colourful vegetables. Based on food and pricing, I would give them 3 stars, but because of the service, I'm bumping it up to 4. The staff here are excellent! Very casual and attentive. I've been here a few times for dinners, celebrations, casual lunch, team lunchs, etc. It's a great spot because there's something for everyone from pastas to burgers and steaks. I tried their salad recently with Ahi Tuna, and I do not recommend it at all. The salad was lettuce which is very watery and not something you want a full plate of. The tuna wasn't great quality and I noticed discoloration on the fish. That being said, I'd order pastas, noodles, and burger here and know full well that I'm going to love it. Their savoury meals have great flavour, taste fresh and are always filling. They also plate very nicely so you're eating with your eyes first and that of course opens your appetite! Appetizers Tuna Poke nutritional information rare ahi tuna, avocado & ginger with wonton crisps (150 Cals per serving, 3 servings) (16¾) Ahi Tuna was fresh, seasoned and mixed in a rich, tangy, citrusy sauce with wonton crisps as a vessel. Calamari nutritional information with tempura shrimp, garlic dip & spicy mayo (410 Cals per serving, 3 servings) ($16¾) The calamari was tender, fresh, herbaceous, citrusy, and crunchy. Portion size was a bit smaller for the price. Entrees nutritional information 7oz certified angus beef®, creamy madeira sauce + pan roasted cremini mushrooms (730 Cals ) ($33 1/2) The maderia sauce had a deep caramel, woodsy, nutty and salty flavor which was a great addition to the steak. I'm not sure if it was an off day but I would say the medium rare steak was very tough which is surprising for an angus steak. Mashed potatoes and vegetables were nicely made and makes the entree a complete meal. Loaded Cheeseburger aged white cheddar, red relish, pickled mustard seed mayo, sautéed mushrooms, bacon & bbq sauce (1220 Cals) ($20 1/2) A juicy, seasoned, hot, fresh and beefy burger. The Pickled mustard seed Mayo completes the bbq sauce and compliments the rich burger. Dessert White Chocolate Brownie chocolate sauce, french vanilla ice cream & real whipped cream (770 Cals per serving, 2 servings) ($10) We got this for free and it was sweet, moist, hot and delicious with the cold fragrant ice cream. The cacao powder "Happy Birthday" was a great touch and counter for the sweet brownie and ice cream. The staff was professional and very kind. Went for lunch and it was surprisingly quite busy. We got seated in the sunroom are which was kind of nice in terms of comfort BUT it turned out to be not so good in gaining our server's attention. Service was tardy and our server seemed distracted. We had to fight for attention and many of our requests had to get repeated. Maybe our table was too far??? Saving grace was management! She ended up helping out as an assistant server, busboy and general helper. If not for the manager, we would rate overall service as bad. The food for the most part was quite good. The chicken was well cooked and not dry, fries not oily/greasy. The kale was good once we got "extra" dressing from the manager. It was really dry-almost like no dressing. I came here last week for a girl's lunch with my colleagues to do a Kris Kringle. Since it is the holiday season the restaurant was surprisingly packed for a Moxie's. Largely due to the office lunch crowd and the fact that many corporate holiday lunches were being held at this location. We made a reservation so it was all good. We were led up to our booth by the hostess. Our waiter was extremely personable and nice. The service was great. I ordered the steak sandwich and swapped the fries out for the soup of the day - which was chicken noodle soup or cream of broccoli - I chose chicken noodle. I expected the steak sandwich to be thinly sliced pieces of almost shredded steak in a bun but instead it was basically a piece of steak on an open bun (no top) and huge onion rings on top. This blew my expectations out of the water. It was so worth it to order this. The steak itself was cooked perfectly medium rare as I requested. The bun was toasted and had a nice sauce on it. The onion rings were not soggy and crispy. The soup was flavorful as well. Overally, I came in with really low expectations for Moxie's and turns out they delivered great food. They have this new ish lounge area now that kind of looks like you're in a very nice greenhouse. And I love this addition to their place. For dinner, I ordered the fish tacos which came with a fairly small salad. They tasted fine but there was more filler (corn salsa, avocado, sour cream) than fish. I appreciate the serving sizes not being ridiculously large - nobody should eat that much. It would have been nice if the server asked if we wanted lemon for our water or lime for our beer. When I made those requests, he brought one slice of each for me but none for my friends. The women's washroom was nice and clean but the lights were only on in the area near the sinks and not in the stalls. I couldn't find a light switch. Very odd! I came in here with a large group for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant, itself, is beautiful. We were seated near the patio and it was a lovely sunny day so we were able to enjoy the sun as well as the cool breeze that would blow in, occasionally. To start off, the large group tables were not very comfortable. The seats were tall and they had a weird half backing. Instead of the full backing, the back of the chair ended a little below mid back and so personally, it was uncomfortable to lean back on. We were all seated very close to each other too so it was very cramped and it made it inconvenient when one of us needed to leave the table. The food was a great disappointment. Even though I knew there were very limited vegan options going in, I was still disappointed by the quality of the food. I ordered the portobello mushroom burger with lettuce instead of buns (their buns contain eggs according to their chef). The portobello mushroom burger was soggy and a mess to eat, plus it lacked flavour. The side salad I received just tasted of oil. I honestly would be surprised if they put anything other than oil because there was just a small pool of oil at the bottom of the bowl when I finished the salad. My friend, who got the fish tacos, said that it was also bland and flavourless. The service wasn't amazing either. I had to ask the server twice to check if the buns were vegan. My friend had to call her over to refill her water cup after the waitress forgot to refill our half of the table when she made her rounds and never came back. The waitress then literally refilled only my friend's cup even though there were 4 other empty cups at the table. My order was also messed up since I asked for fries instead of the salad. I do understand that it might have been due to the large number of our group that caused these small issues. Parking should not be a problem as the restaurant shares it's parking lot with the other large number of restaurants in the area. read more

I dropped in here with some friends after a round of golf. One of my playing partners is a regular and chose Moxie's because it was Wednesday and that meant half price bottles of wine. No argument from me. We ordered mostly appetizers, which were big enough for a light meal, and ended up having a couple of bottles of wine. The chicken wings were decent, ordered with only salt and pepper, with BBQ sauce on the side. They were nice and crispy but needed the sauce for some flavour. The Beef Dip sandwich with side salad was good but probably didn't need the horseradish aioli. The au jus dip should have been enough. The nachos was a well dressed generous serving that ended up in a takeout box because it was so much. The Lettuce Wraps was the most interesting of the dishes we ordered. It was a well presented generous serving of stir-fried veggies with cashews and chow mein noodles with some carefully cut lettuce cups. One fellow ordered the Salty Caramel Pecan Cheesecake for dessert. It must have been good because he didn't share. I think he might have licked the plate clean. Overall, the food was decent and the wine was a good deal. I do have to mention a couple of incidents that happened right next to us. We sat at a high table near the bar so we could watch the baseball game. It was also the side of the bar where servers picked up their drink orders, and the pathway from the kitchen to the lounge and patio, and the pathway to the washrooms. Lots of traffic. I travel to Toronto for work often. I always stop here on every trip for at least one meal and some beers. The Moxie's Amber is a great staple and delicious beer year round. Mixing it up with the euro on occasion as it's also a decent beer that reminds me of a hometown brew. The fish tacos are the best thing on the menu. The fish is crispy and the veggies and coleslaw that come with it are fresh. It also comes with chips and salsa which is also very good. I've also had the burger, and a few of the appetizers. Amazing ambience, I feel like they did some renovations (can be wrong), however it is the best looking Moxie's that I have been to. Very spacious as well. Upon arrival, my friend and I got seated right away. The girls at the front can be a bit more nicer/welcoming. The girl taking us to our seat had a straight face, but I noticed she was doing that with everyone. However, our waiter was super sweet and helpful! I wish I could remember his name, but I can't. My friend and I ordered the Chicken Madeira Rigatoni and we both loved it. I personally had this dish before, so I already knew I was going to get it before I came. I told my friend to try it and she loved it. We both also ordered dessert, of course I ordered the White Chocolate Brownie, and my friend ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding. You see all these waitresses with their nice tan, heavy make up, low cut top with their push up bras in their shorts and heels..... I feel like I am at a Hooters or something.....anyway, for my Hot Yoga Date, dressing like that would not automatically get you a big fat tip, we looking for services..... Menu is predictable but I do think that's great that Moxie has daily drink specials, Monday is beer for $3.99 for the whole day and for Sunday is Caesar for $4.99. Our waitress was just so slow in every possible way: slow to take our food order, slow to get our bills, slow even taking our money...........maybe her heels slowing her down? or her top just too tight? My Kiwi Mojito ($5.99) is made of fresh fruits, quite refreshing but I barely tasted the alcohol, the proof is my face did not even turn red after I drank that and I didn't feel anything at all! Sweet potatoes fries($7.75) was quite good, but definitely small in portion! We were attacking it and it was gone so fast..... might be because we were fighting for it, that 's make it exceptionally tasty! The food was the best thing about this place. I was initially impressed at the amount of items on their vegetarian menu.I ordered the vegetarian power bowl and it was amazing. The presentation helped the rating of the dish. It came out in this gorgeous large clay bowl that I wanted to take home for myself! There were so many delicious things in this dish-shiitake mushrooms, avocado, hard boiled egg, edamame. It all tasted fresh and everything paired well with the mayo and dressing. The service wasn't the best and the table we were seated at next to the windows was cold. We had to ask for the heater to be turned on above us which helped. I had asked to be seated indoors, and I guess our table technically was, but I envisioned sitting inside the actual building's main dining room and not in an adjacent room. On another positive note, I was happy to see the non alcohol cocktail options on the menu. I tried the Rosemary Grapefruit Tonic and felt like I was drinking right alongside of my alcohol consuming friends. When I am not participating in Dry January I will order this again! read more
