The food at Joey Markville was decent--pretty much what you'd expect for a restaurant of its style and price point. The real issue was the service. We were seated right behind the front desk, yet it felt like we were invisible. Even when I waved or called out, it took ages for anyone to acknowledge us. Everyone was polite when they finally came over, but it shouldn't take all night just to get a glass of water. In fact, my water never ended up getting refilled at all, even after asking twice. Toward the end of the night, a different server approached us, offered to show the dessert menu, and asked us to leave a 5-star review because they were doing some kind of competition. She said she'd comp our dessert, so we decided to go for it. Then she disappeared for about 15 minutes, and when she finally came back, the dessert wasn't actually comped. We were there for about two hours, but between two entrées, one drink, and one dessert, it easily could've been a one-hour visit if the service was more attentive. Overall, not the experience I was hoping for. Needless to say, I deleted my 5star review at the end of the night. read more

Used to come here frequently and regularly in the last six or seven years but the past few times we've been here, we noticed the food quality somehow got worse so we stopped coming as frequently in the past year or so. Their Truffle Parmesan Fries used to be SO good and our go-to but it somehow changed in the past two years and became mediocre at best; it became so average that we went from ordering it every single visit to totally stopped ordering it now. The food portions also got much smaller these days while the prices got so much higher. I can understand given today's economy but the food quality also got worse overall. Recently, we thought we'd go again to give it another try and even brought our toddler. We got the Truffle Udon Carbonara and the portion was small and flavour was quite salty. Also, the place was quite toddler unfriendly in the sense that despite having a "kid's menu" per our server, there were no kids plate or utensils available. The staff are also clearly not trained to serve a wide range of customers. My toddler has stranger anxiety and despite telling them about it and explicitly asking two waitresses to take a step back because my toddler was crying upon being approached, they nodded but did not get it and continued trying to engage my kid! It seemed like they were just acknowledging without actually listening or understanding. It was actually quite frustrating. This place is definitely not for families with younger kids. The only "good" service that we got was that we were able to move to another table with less traffic so our toddler could eat without being approached by random servers. Overall again just mediocre food with service that can definitely be improved. Used to be a 4 star but now probably just a 2 so averaging it out to a 3. read more

Hadn't been to Joey's in a wildly long time but my sister-in-law picked it as a change up for her bday back in Feb. I can't speak for all the drinks on the menu, but the peach bellini I had was super tasty (I do wish it was a bigger glass though considering the price). Steak & ravioli bianco: Prolly the best dish of the night. The pasta was paper thin, the sauce was great, the steak was tender and perfect edge-to-edge medium rare. I do question the portion size though (it's listed as a shareable plate but yea.... Idk about that). Truffle parmesan fries: Real parmesan shavings, shoestring-style fries that are uber crispy and the garlic mustard aioli I could drink a quart of that stufff. Yum. Yellowfin tuna salad: The fish was seared nicely but the consensus was that the salad tasted a lil strange. I don't think the components really worked as well together as it sounded on the menu. Herb crushed salmon: Really pretty presentation and the fish was cooked just right! No complaints on this one. Maybe more tomatoes and less peas (but that's a preference thing I guess). Oven roasted wild cod: Also very pretty presentation. The thai curry sauce didn't taste like thai curry though. It was just a flavour packed sauce but I wouldn't call it curry haha. Fish was moist just like the salmon. Steak + sushi: Bro ordered this. The sushi was SURPRISINGLY good LOL. I was expecting for it to be a disaster but the rice was actually vinegar-ed properly and the fish was a good temperature as well. Who would've thought. The steak was a different, leaner cut of beef from the one served with the ravioli bianco though (I think it was sirloin or striploin), so it wasn't as tender and kind of chewy. The ponzu sauce was ok. Didn't really impart much flavour to the steak. Joey classic steak/ribeye: My dad and I ordered steak. Funnily enough, these steaks were definitely lacking exterior sear/char. The meat was cooked well I suppose (we both asked for medium rare). The accompanying garlic butter on top of the steak was a nice touch. So was the peppercorn sauce on the side. I do think the mashes potatoes were the star of the dish LOL. They were soft and gooey on the inside but french fry crispiness on the outside. Service was great throughout the night! Because it was my sis-in-laws bday, the staff brought complimentary brownie bites out for her. That was sweet of them. Overall it was a good meal! Admittedly, we had eaten at Peter's (a steakhouse) a couple weeks back for my bday. At $75 for a ribeye here (and only a 16 oz at that), my steak DID feel underwhelming value-wise, but Joey's doesn't particularly specialize in steak so that's forgivable I guess. read more

Carved New York strip, gruyere cheese, garlic toast,au jus pour - WOW the taste and flavor with this app was amazing! I'm from the states and come here once a year during the holidays when my wife and I come to visit her family. We enjoy the vibes and tasty food like the chicken parm, spaghetti pomodoro, and blackened chicken. Their appys aren't the greatest but not bad either and we try to make the most of our experience by trying different things. Prices seem to hike up every time we return but that appears to be happening everywhere. Anyway, had another nice experience today and looking forward to next year! Recently visited JOEY Markville for a birthday dinner :) The food has much improved since my previous review a few years ago. We were seated at one of the booths near the front of the restaurant; it was not as loud in that area as compared to being further inside the restaurant. The booth was spacious and could easily accommodate 5-6 people. I really enjoyed my Red Sangria and Ahi Tuna Burger. The 'meat' was nice and thick, and you can upgrade your side of fries to sweet potato fries. The appetizers we shared were also delicious, though I didn't realize how SPICY the chicken wings were lol. Overall, it was a great experience! Our server checked on us from time to time and made sure we were doing fine. Went here with friends on a Friday night. It was packed, even the parking lot! Ambiance - 4/5: it was quite dark but we were seated close to the kitchen so we had a little more lighting, which helps with reading the menu. The bathroom was spacious and clean. And there are about 6 stalls. Service - 4/5: we had a reservations so they seated us quickly and on time. They gave us time to look at the menu then got our orders for mains and drinks. Different servers checked on us and refilled our drinks. One or my friends got a spanish wine and the bartender opened up the wine in front of us and poured it. He said he waa new but he did a great job! Our bill at the end took a bit because we were splitting a portion of the bill. Food - 4/5: we got a variety of dishes - ravioli bianco, oven roasted wild cod, yellowfin tuna salad, mediterranean bowl steak frite and also the warm Italian donuts. We all got full off of what we ordered. I really enjoyed the mediterranean bowl. The harissa chicken wasn't overly spicy. It was super moist and succulent. The grill marks gave it the charred taste. There were some crunchy bits but not sure where it came from since I couldn't really see the food tuat I ate. I would recommend this bowl. The donuts were so good. They were warm, soft, sugary donuts with a vanilla mascarpone cream underneath the donuts. The menu says there are lemon curds but I didn't taste it. For someone who isn't a dessert person, I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friends got drinks - ceasars, spanish wine and espresso martini. Apparently the ceasars were spicy, even without the rim and the espresso martini lacked alcohol. My friend liked the spanish wine. Overall: 4/5 - it is a pricey menu ($30-65 menu). I've been to Joey Restaurant at different locations several times but this location stands out in my mind for the incredible experience I had. I'm very happy with our server AJ, as what started out with a nice conversation continued with in-depth knowledge of the menu, flavours of individual dishes, and comments on personal picks on the menu. The attention to detail as well was helpful, service was astounding and I really felt cared for the entire night. Since the last three years I have felt customer service overall at any establishment hasn't been great but tonight is the first time I can say I was actually impressed. Hats off to you, I hope you continue to knock it's out of the park! The night couldn't be complete without a flavourful meal. My steak and sushi was savoury and sublime. I also tasted the truffle fries which were an excellent accompaniment. The crème brûlée cheesecake intrigued and delighted me as the perfect finish to the evening. The decor and ambiance is suitable to most modern restaurants with modern style mixed with glass, wood and black paint. There's the louder bar section and the slightly quieter comfortable dining area. I'll be back during the summer to see what else the menu has to offer but to also witness the curious mechanism to open the restaurant patio doors which consists of a wheel attached to a series of gears and chains that stretch above the dining room ceiling. read more

However, the reason for a lower rating comes from the service and the increased prices (which I understand are related to inflation). Wait time for seating is long even when the space is mostly empty, possibly a staffing shortage. This quality of the food is mediocre and while the portions are decent it is mostly filler. The tuna poke bowl wax mostly rice and less than 1/2 an avocado( not properly ripe) was an additional $4.25. It takes a really long time to get the attention of your server so be prepared to wait for whatever you need or simply proceed as is served. Our family of 4 (2 adults & 2 toddlers) was dining in here last Saturday at 3 pm. The waiting wasn't that bad, only 20 minutes to get the booster seats. The atmosphere was nice as always. Seating area was spacious. It's nothing to complain about this here. Our server was ok, greeting us from the beginning, informing to us what the special on the menu, BUT he only provided 2 sets of table-wear without any questions! I was like ... ya my kids don't need to eat, only for 2 adults BUT you would expect tips from full of a 4-table ppl. Here is the main reason why WE wouldn't come back to JOEY ever again!!! Their food is going down hill seriously. Their steaks menu doesn't come with side dishes anymore, they used to have the very unique smashed potatoes in spring rolls shape. Moreover, the portion is ridiculously small... that's not worth its price! We asked for medium rare for 2 dishes: new york sirloin & top sirloin, but it came out to almost medium! Another dish was trio royale burgers, my kids loved that, it tasted as good as the first time Joey opened (so many years ago). I couldn't find the pictures to prove to this review. This past experience took place after an unfortunate visit I had earlier this year. I was contacted by one of the managers of JOEYs Markville and she had asked to talk about the experience I had at length over the phone. She was extremely apologetic during the entirety of the conversation and even invited me back for another meal. She did mention that I could personally contact her to make a reservation but I decided against it and just made a reservation by myself. I do want to mention that she did end up giving me an e-gift card which did incentivize me to return seeing as the following meal I'm about to detail was on the house. That definitely doesn't change the fact that the service I received was a 180 flip of an experience though. Our server started the meal off asking about any allergies the table might have, at which point again, I made mention of my cinnamon allergy. The server, at that point, noted that down and ensured she asked about cinnamon being an ingredient in every dish we ordered subsequently. What a gem! ONTO THE FOOD ~ [if there are two prices listed next to the food, the first price is the original price and the second price is the happy hour price! :D] [Pasta Pomodoro] $18.25/$13 - Calabrian chili spiked tomato sauce, whipped ricotta, fresh basil, parmesan. HOLY COW, I can't believe I almost would have never eaten this had I not brought my boyfriend along. He's a vegetarian which definitely gives me good reason to try dishes I otherwise might never order since I am not a vegetarian. We decided to order this dish, not expecting much but my goodness, my socks were knocked off completely and utterly! Hands down, this is now one of my favorite dishes here! I love the kick it has so if you're not into spicy foods, probably forego this dish but if you think you can put up with it, it's definitely worth it!! I've visited this Joey location many times over the past few years and it's been consistent experience throughout. Menu offerings are good and generally offer something for everyone. Been here at different times of the day (lunch, dinner, late night) and service is good at all times. Drink menu is also not bad. I'm a beer drinker and the offerings are pretty decent. Went yesterday and the waitress was amazing but the main entree was horrible. had the new salad with salmon the beets were stale tomatoes and strawberries were poor quality and the salmon made me sick. Still a four star but I think the place has gone a little too far onto the wild side of things. I like sitting in the bar area. It's more lively and less formal when meeting socially. However, it is still way louder than need be. We had to ask that the music be turned down a bit so we don't have to yell at eachother from a foot way. We were informed that the volume was at the lowest. Really? The "BOSS" was belting out a familiar tune and I really could not even hear my drinking mate. The volume thing was annoying, however, more annoying was a guy, on his phone sitting at the bar. Every few seconds he was kicking the vanity plate and banging his hands on the bar top. This sent vibrations all the way around the bar. People were getting annoyed, however, Mr. Oblivious didn't care. So we moved to a high table. At the high table, we were sitting next to a birthday party group that booked one end of the lounge. As the group finally got together, one guy decided he needed to make a toast - by the way, this guy must have bathed in the cheap cologne department...ugh! Anyway, de did one of the stupid whistling that not only got his group's attention but the whole bar. He was also Mr. Oblivious, as he didn't seem any much embarrassed by his drunken action. So why still a four and not drop them? They still have a decent beer and wine list. Their food for the most part is quite good for a restaurant of this type. The managers are also quick to address issues - case in point, the music volume somehow found a lower setting. The obnoxious people somehow settled down. A whole-hearted apology from the team and a little something was given (we never asked for it). Let me start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE Joey's. I've been here many times since it opened and I've never had a bad experience. It can get a little busy but that can be avoided with a reservation. If you decided to go to Joey's on a whim, they will take down your info and give you a call when your table is ready so you can go do some shopping first! My go to's are the Pesto Shrimp Flatbread, the Ahi Tuna Tacos, the Rainbow Roll, the Crispy Mash.. okay, basically everything on the menu is delicious and I have not tried a dish that I didn't like. In my opinion, their sushi is better than sushi restaurants! I don't know what type of sushi rice they're using, but it's so soft and delicious. Speaking of soft and delicious, the Crispy Mash is a must have! The soft, mashed potatoes are perfectly complimented with the crispy spring roll-like exterior. I've also gotten the Pesto Shrimp Flatbread and Crispy Mash as take out before. It still tastes great after a half hour drive home. I think you're safe ordering anything from Joey's. It's not a hit and miss restaurant; everything tastes great. Unfortunately I'm always too full for dessert, but I will make it my mission to try their desserts one day! Consolidated review of many visits over the past few years. There has been a couple positive experiences (only when it was a small group, maximum of 5) but the negative definitely outweigh the good. Especially when it is a larger group then it is consistently terrible. Already managed to convince the family to stop hosting annual family dinner here. This year the party of 13 moved to another popular restaurant ten minutes away. Every time an online reservation request was submitted, a callback was never received. Had to personally call each time to confirm and they sounded surprised. Knowing this place is busy, rarely just walk in but it's a surprise how the table is usually not ready even with a reservation and there's still a bit of a wait to be seated. One star for the atmosphere/environment and one star for the food, which is normally pretty good (shame the Spanish Paella is no longer on the menu). Three stars lost for lack of service and not only lack of, horrible attitude from the servers. Why not right ? Gratuity already guaranteed during the annual family dinners that are always 8+ people so the servers do not need to work for it anymore. During one visit when it was only a party of six, the servers were nowhere to be found when they were needed and only checked up once. When it came time to pay the bill, they were extremely happy and helpful. All smiles until they saw how much tip was actually given (it was more than 0 which would have still been fair for the lack of service received). Not sure why they would expect more though, kind of have to actually service the table to receive a service tip. Feedbacks have been submitted online before but no reply. Guessing if it's not a public complaint then they don't care to do any PR work. Overall, will be back only because grandma likes the baby back ribs and sweet potato fries. I have been back to Joey Markville at least a dozen times since my last review. Very poor service, shrinking portions with higher prices. This has left me feeling with no desire to step back in to this restaurant ever again. I feel like, the staff here thinks they are. Yorkville level or Michelin star rated restaurant - NOPE! Staff at those restaurants do not treat their guests as disrespectfully as this Joey location. There are so many comments everywhere online that also note the high nose attitude of the hosts and servers at Joey Markville. Arrive to the restaurant, it's not busy lots of empty tables. They make you wait. They refuse to take same day reservations which is unheard of anywhere else! You are made to sit around for at least 25- 30 minutes ( or more) waiting for a table. We have seen tables with reserved signs just sitting on the tables, 2 hours later when we leave NOBODY is at those tables. Several other guests are waiting for tables and they are sipping on complimentary Prosecco - don't know what that's like because we have never been offered any. Oh wait, once a few weeks ago. We were seated and then offered the Prosecco for the 3 adults at our table (party of 5), we all responded with yes, please, that would be very nice. Never saw the host again. We couldn't be bothered with asking our server, that was just too awkward. Fast forward to the food: The Happy Hour menu has lower pricing for some of their main menu items. What they won't tell you, but 2 of our servers did on 2 sep visits, after we commented on the smaller portions, was that Happy hour menu items are smaller portions. So really, you are only paying less because the portions are smaller. No real deal here. We ordered apps from the reg menu that come with chips, the ratio of chips to dips is insulting. When you ask for more, they will bring you more but don't bother to tell you that it's for a charge of $4 more! How about offering a better ratio of chips to dips or at least providing your guests with the first request free. Ordered steak & sushi, the steak was like tough, chewy and very poor quality. Asked for medium rare, it was well done. Ordered sliders for appetizer and they were blackened and so dry, smothered in their secret sauce - to mask the burnt patties of course. Ordered yam fries, crazy expensive and the container is half empty. Butter chicken, do not recommend this dish as it is not close to what a butter chicken tastes like. They should just name it chicken curry on the menu. The spice and flavour of this dish, does not make me feel like I am eating butter chicken. Too much spice, leaves you with no rich butter chicken taste, just a hot burnt spice flavour and nothing else. Small portion of the chicken and not enough rice served with this. The plating was so odd for this dish, making it difficult to eat. We used to love it here, but the prices are too high, very inconsistent portions and quality and sorry but the service is appalling! I shouldn't have to get up from my table and walk over to the bar to get more water for myself or my table. Takes so long to get anyone's attention and when you do, they take just as long to get back to your table. Let's get to the service. On a recent visit I brought an issue to the servers attention, without hearing me or letting me finish, she jumps in, leans forward closer to my face, cuts me off and in a very patronizing way says "it's ok, I will take this away". Then they send a Manager over who starts quizzing you with question after question over what the issue is with the food. Super annoying, if a customer feels that there is an issue with something ordered (temperature, taste, inedible) please take the plate away and simply ask if there is something else the guest would like to order. I ordered nothing else and had to ask for the item to be removed off my bill. This also happened during a work lunch I was there for with the EL Team at my workplace and one of the VP's dishes that was ordered. Same process, different server and Manager with 101 questions. Take the feedback back to the kitchen and don't ask how a customer that is not a chef can make the dish better. That concludes my review and any future visits to Joey! I would rather go to Richmond Hill and Vaughan to enjoy much better food, service and a greater experience. Pickle Barrel is gone from the mall, won't be long before Joey is too, if they don't make some major changes. read more
