Getting an appointment may be a challenge depending on your schedule but it's worth it. UPDATE 8/2018 My hair cut was great but my daughters hair cut was not, it was rushed. I don't appreciate the rush on my daughters hair cut, I prefer someone who can take their time and pay close attention to detail. It was a bob haircut. I will probably not go back. I don't live very close to this place so going back to have it fixed would take more time energy and time. I just took the time myself and tried to fix my daughters haircut at home. I've been going to NGA for nearly three years, and was amazed at the stuck-up attitude of most of the hair cutters there; they look at you like you're something they're about to step in, or some such thing. It didn't bug me that much, as my stylist was always very nice and easy to talk to. And then, a few days ago, when I called to ask my stylist a question, the phone was answered by an extremely rude woman who, without bothering to ask me why I was calling, informed me that my stylist was "with a customer," and was "booked solid for the rest of the day." I was then told to "try again some other time." I told her that I wanted to speak with my stylist about another matter, and the response was, "I TOLD you she was WITH A CUSTOMER." And then, again without trying to find out why I was calling, she went over to my stylist and, in a loud voice that I know for certain could be heard throughout the salon, she said, "So-and-So is trying to get an appointment with you today, and I TOLD HIM you were BUSY, but he wants to know if you can fit him in." I heard my [now former] stylist say, "Tell him I'm busy! I don't want to deal with him right now!" The receptionist (or whoever it was who had answered the phone) came back on and said, "We have your number, and if anything opens up, we'll call you back." I told her not to bother, and hung up. The sad thing is that I followed this stylist from her former salon to NGA, which really was a step down in location, appearance and professionalism, and it didn't take long for their stuck up attitude to take root in her. So, after nearly ten years of getting haircuts from this person, I've headed elsewhere. Honestly, I don't know how they manage to stay in business, what with their nose-in-the-air behavior. I rarely write reviews, but nothing irritates me more than people being rude and having an attitude - especially when they're job is working with people and greeting customers. If you don't like your job, go somewhere else. Spare the public. In response to this girl, I will take the time and make the effort to submit a review so that she knows not everyone is going to swallow her attitude. Like the woman who wrote another review about not even making it past setting the appointment, I didn't even get that far. Whoever answered the phone clearly was terribly bothered by having to do so and I couldn't even understand her. Her attitude after that was so bad that I simply said "Never mind" and hung up. Something I've never done before in my life. I'm not going to give any business that allows that kind of behavior my support. Obviously they don't care about how their customers are treated or how much business they're losing or they would read these reviews and do something. It feels like just the other day I was scheduling my hair appointments with Nga and Tran.... then I realize that was high school... so about 5 YEARS AGO! Holy Mother of God-- I AM OLD (ish). Oy Anyway, not important. What's important is that this lovely establishment has been around for years. Why? Because they are amazing. In high school I would frequent this salon all the time. The ladies there are amazing and the cost is totally affordable. They cut, color, chat about your day, and are extremely nice. They also wax. It's seriously like $10 for eyebrows and they DON'T make them super skinny and ugly. Nga and crew has some serious skill. I just booked an appt to 'dust my hair' aka: cut off all the split ends. While this will be my first experience in years, I know that it will be amazing just like in the past. Rewinding to my youth::: Nga's does fab prom hair. If you tell them the color of your dress they bust of these cute bobby pins with little colored bling on the ends. I still have a million purple ones from my Sr Prom. I usually go to more expensive salons. I guess the whole "you get what you pay for" thing kept me in the mindset that you can't get a good haircut at a cheap price. I'm happy to say that I was wrong! My fiancé has been coming here for years. He usually has Trang cut his hair and he is always happy. So when I was short on cash but long on hair, I decided to give them a try. Instead of Trang, I got her sister, Diem. She was wonderful! She cut my hair exactly how I wanted it and the upkeep was easy for me at home. She was very pleasant and fun to chat with while I was in her chair as well. A great experience. I will dump the hoity toity salons and come here from now on! I hated to leave 4 instead of 5 stars, but there are a couple of women that work there that are not so great. One time my fiancé had to have someone other than Trang cut his hair. She yanked and pulled on him so much that his scalp hurt the rest of the day. My son also had the misfortune of getting another woman who did not cut his hair the way he had asked. IT IS CHEAP. Which is a good thing. I was charged $15 for my haircut. But I did not like my experience there or haircut quality. 1. When you get your hair washed, it should be an enjoyable, relaxing experience. Negative. My hairdresser was rough and splashed a lot of water in my face. No soothing head massage. 2. I told her what I wanted; short layers on top, thinned out on bottom, lots of layer in general. It's the Asian layer mullet that ABG's have been doing for years and it looks amazing. First off, she used a razor the entire time to cut my hair. That should be a 1 star rating: you do not cut layers with a razor if you actually know how to do it right. Because in the end, it comes out all disconnected, blocky, and crooked. 3. My hair dresser kept suggesting ways to cut MY HAIR because this was the way that SHE LIKE HER HAIR done. Excuse, last time I checked, my hair was long and you were rocking an asymmetrical bob. Our hairstyles were completely different but she kept pushing me to cut my hair like hers. I had to repeatedly say no and be very adamant about what I WANTED. 4. After she finished razoring my whole head, she took off the coat and let me look at it. And then we had this awkward moment of silence until I said, "Ummm aren't you going to blow-dry it? I can't tell what it looks like when it's all wet." And then she blow-dried my hair without telling me that it would cost an extra $10. Really? Really? You charged me $10 to blowdry my hair after I got a haircut. The blowdrying should really come standard. The only reason I cut my hair here was because it was an emergency and I could not go to my regular stylist in Huntington Beach. read more

So I've been here 3 times before during the past year and a half. I usually get a cut and a eyebrow wax. I usually don't make an appointment, instead I walk in so I normally don't get the same girl. Two of the times I've been there were great. I love my cut (and the price!) and my eyebrows looked amazing. I let Diem know what kind of haircut I wanted and she did it just as I asked! I would give five stars but I had my cousin with me and her stylist didn't give her what she wanted and she was disappointed. Her stylist told her that it wouldn't look good on her. I called and was able to get an appointment same day. America was able to take care of me. All I got was a trim. While America was super friendly and sweet, she also did a great job on the cut, but the wash was a little rough. I'm used to the wash being a little more on the gentle side and I felt a few tugs at the scalp that made me flinch a bit. Nonetheless, America provided a great cut and also used some great products. My experience at Nga Salon was nothing short of wonderful. Starting with appointments, they were quick to offer me availability over the phone and were able to reserve an appointment right away. I had my haircut done by Trang, and I was very impressed with how thorough her work is. When I mentioned that I wanted about 3-4 in. of hair trimmed, I loved that she consulted with me by measuring the length with her comb as to make sure that we were both on the same page as to how much was cut from the layers in the front and back separately. There's been so many times where I've asked for a trim, and ended up disappointed with more length cut than neccessary, so I was very happy that she took the time to understand the style and cut that I was looking for. I felt like her beauty services were very reasonable in price and she definitely takes her time and doesn't rush to move onto the next appointment. The salon itself is very clean and well decorated. This salon is fabulous. Although located in a Vons shopping center it truly is a great place for all your different beauty needs. I ran across this salon almost 10 years ago and my family uses it as well. Their staff appears to be very knowledgeable and capable even for the most difficult hair. I have had my Hair cut, colored and have used their esthetics as well. The shop is constantly updated in decor and is clean and neat. I know the shop is owned by sisters and each brings their A game! My hair was butchered by a salon I decided to try in Carlsbad because of her good yelp reviews. Found this salon and the owner (I think) recommended Kim since I usually have an a-line type cut and that she's good at those. I'm so glad I decided to give her a shot cuz she fixed my chopped up hair and in the process of letting it grow out a bit to be able to get my a-line back properly.
