Wish they'd prepare people in advance to wear sandals or put that event last.

I found the Underground Railroad tour in Buffalo and immediately booked. Why did I book? For starts, it's a 3 hour tour learning about one of the most historic and unknown aspects of American history. It is extremely well priced for the convenience and intimacy of the tour. You're picked up at the Underground Railroad Historic Museum (free parking is a bonus) and you're met by Kevin (dressed in period clothing including a dope top hat). He drives you to the key areas of Buffalo that were critical to the Underground Railroad. We had a very diverse tour group and Kevin made us feel comfortable to ask questions and to interact with our group. One of the best parts of the tour was going to an actual "station" on the Underground Railroad. It's a 300 year-old barn organically owned by McClew family who were "conductors" on the Underground Railroad. You get to experience the barn where many people were housed, fed, and clothed on their journey to Canada. After this experience 've become a Motherland C groupie! Kevin (the owner) could be a history professor (watch out, Dr. Gates!) with his knowledge and passion of American history and the history of Western New York (he's a Buffalo native). Turns out we were the only ones on the tour today, so it was a wonderful, personal experience with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide named Kevin Cottrell. He was a great storyteller and a beautiful human being. We visited many historic places and heard many disturbing and heartbreaking stories. This was definitely one of the best guided tours of its kind I have ever been on. Highly recommend.

Sophie was a wonderful guide giving me so much info on the prophet Isaiah that I felt I knew the man. His dedication and devotion to the prophecy was apparent in his artwork. You could feel the passion. Sophie pointed out the symbolism helping me tto see what was hidden in the multitude of color and shapes painted in and on the house. There was so much to take in, every view point looked different. I kept finding new things. I was able to take my time and really look at everything, ask any questions I had and just relax and enjoy the experience. I loved it!

We tasted the Haystack from The Silo- soft hoagie bun with chopped beef, nicely complimented by cheese and seasonings topped with crispy potatoes. The Brickyard was a nice ambiance very pub-like with a nice outdoor patio area. We tasted the Caprese salad, Hard Apple Cider, sweet potato fries and dry rubbed chicken wing. Everything was delicious. The fresh mozzarella in the salad was soft and tasty. I'd never had a hard cider before but it was very good as well and likened to a sparkling rose type wine. My guest had the chicken and fries but said both were very tasty. 3rd stop was DiCamillo Bakery where we had a surprisingly appealing biscotti. I say surprisingly because any time I'd ever had a biscotti in the past it was flavorless and dry. This was the same texture as far as it being crunchy, but it was a game changer. I actually ended up buying a box and looking forward to getting into it with a cup of coffee. Next up-The Orange Cat Coffee Company. You were hit smack dab in the face with the aroma of various coffees and flavors. I tried the iced caramel coffee. It was refreshing on a hot afternoon. Had good flavor. My guest tried the hot version with the biscotti from DiCamillo's and REALLY enjoyed it. Gallo Coal Fire Kitchen was probably one of the most unique visits. They have an actual COAL FIRE PIZZA OVEN. So cool to witness! The pizza was VERY good and the head chef was very personable and engaged. We tasted the Margarita pizza. Sooo good! Lastly, we tasted the mini apple pie thingy at The Village Bake Shoppe. It was delicious! Loaded with fresh apples. Not too sweet. My favorite part was the actual rich history of Lewiston that Rita shared. I was greatly encouraged by the abolitionist movement and the underground railroad endeavors. There is an intentional effort to preserve, retain, and promote the true history here. I learned so much and will definitely be back for all the festivals Rita mentioned, namely the Jazz Festival scheduled for next week where thousands decend to experience. It's not often that a rest stop feels this thoughtful and well-maintained. The entire space felt welcoming and peaceful. It's perfect for a quick break or even a longer pause to stretch and reset. One of my favorite parts was the big I NY sign outside. It makes for such a fun photo! And inside, the photo opportunity kiosk was such a creative touch. You can snap a picture and send it to yourself right from there. If you're passing through, definitely take a few extra minutes to stop here. It's clear a lot of care went into making this a place people can actually enjoy.

I liked too how they have a Tim Horton's in the downstairs area. I highly recommend buying the iced wine chocolates, and I regret only having bought one tiny box of them, because they're absolutely delish. Go too on the upper level's viewing deck area, and you'll get beautiful shots of the falls at night and during the day as well. Bathrooms were super clean too, I was impressed with that.

Stayed for a few nights. Campground is basic and ok ...strange people driving through late at…read morenight and some homeless looking encampments.....but why in the world would you put a political sign on your main office?? We camp to escape this garbage ...no matter what your views are. I don't look at the news or Facebook or any of that. You're a public business camping is supposed to be fun. Why ??? You ruined the illusion that we were getting away from it all. Not going back. Ever.

The camp ground was clearly still working on getting into shape. I agree with most of the other reviews. Fishing pond was fun but there is no way I would swim in their swimming pond. Mini golf was bad but again we were there early in the season so I am guessing they will work on that. Bathrooms were really clean and the shower were clean also. Everyone was very friendly and there was no noise at night. We paid $35ish for tent camping and fire wood was $7. Overall a bit expensive for what you get (resulted loss of another star). Not sure we would go back. Might try give it another chance in prime season to see how things improve, if so I will check back in.
