I stopped here on the way to Lufkin from Baton Rouge. Great large place very clean with needle, decorations inside and excellent service. I wish I would've ordered something else on the menu. I ordered fried ribs. These are baby ribs but when you fry them, they turn out to be too chewy for my taste. They're probably excellent but I just didn't like them and wish I would've chosen another menu item so I could say the food is great too and I'm sure it is the onion rings that came as sides were very good and they serve peanuts with the meal. We ate at Nice Guy Ricky's for the first time. I had the steak fingers. They were handmade and delicious. I also had the salad bar and everything was very fresh. The food was good. A waitress was attentive and very nice and the general manager actually went to the back to get me two of their crawfish so I could taste them because I told her I was from Southeast Louisiana and I needed to taste it. They're very accommodating, nice people here. read more

It's a pleasant enough restaurant with decent seafood among other items. Their salad bar has varied items and the greens and vegetables are usually fresh and crisp. It does bother me that you are allowed only one trip to the salad bar even if you buy the "salad bar lunch" that cost as much as some other entrees. This place used to be Catfish Cabin, and always heard great reviews. Noticed the name change when we pulled up but decided to try it anyway. We had a great Server and the salad bar was very good. I ordered steak strips with onion rings. Had to send them back, the breading was soggy and greasy. They remade the order and it was better than what they first brought out. Hubby ordered fried ribs at the recommendation of the server. They were awful. Tough, unable to chew and the meat had a strong blood smell to it. Sent it back and he just went for the salad bar. The last time we were here this place was the Catfish Cabin. It had since been bought out by the man that owns all of the Tia Juanita's Fish Camps! His name is Ricky and I can't remember his last name, but he knows the restaurant business! He came in and completely gave the inside a make over!!! It really looks good inside! I was glad to see that he kept the salad bar as it was really good and everything was very fresh and cut nice so you don't need a knife to cut your lettuce down! We came in and we were promptly seated! Our waitress was Annette and she was very friendly and prompt about waiting on us as well as taking care of her other customers! She was great and kept checking on our table the entire time we were there!!! She took our drink orders and brought them back to our table and then we had decided on what we wanted for our appetizers and we chose the Cajun Popcorn or Fried Crawfish Tails with a tangy and good dipping sauce! She then took our food orders and my wife ordered the Nice Guy Platter that has Fried Catfish, fried shrimp, fried oysters, stuffed crab, a crab cake and your choice of side, plus a trip to the salad bar! I was impressed going to the salad bar as they have a cooler at the salad bar that keeps the salad plates really cold!!! My wife chose the loaded baked potato as her side and I chose onion rings for mine. Our 7 year old ordered the kids catfish that came with two decent size catfish fillets with FF's and a little hush puppy that looked like a little skillet cornbread! I ordered sweet tea, my wife ordered Coke Zero, and the little one a Coke. All of the food was right on point and delicious! The crab cake, fried oysters and fried shrimp were all great as were the Catfish fillets! We also liked the ambience inside! There are all kinds of old posters and signs on the walls that kind of keeps you entertained just looking at them! I have heard the Chicken fried steak here is good too, but I'll have to try that some other time! There was so much food that by the time our food came out we had been snacking on the appetizer but didn't finish it and ate our salads! So we both wound up bringing about half of our main meal home!!! This place to me is a lot better than the old catfish place. We loved it!!! read more

My family and I stopped in this place on our way back from a family function. We were seated right away, which we weren't expecting bc the parking lot was full. We considered ourselves lucky! We were promptly greeted and seated right way. Marisa was our waitress, and she was amazing! Mom had the shrimp quesadilla, (wish it had guacamole) ,Pop had Gumbo (he said it was a little spicy, but it was good), I had the chicken skillet (it was perfect, and I had them substitute Jalapeños with pico), and Honey had a burger. Traveling through, thought we'd give it a try. I had the fried ribs, wife had the chicken fried steak. Dinner came with a trip to the freshest, crispiest salad bar I have seen in years. Deep fried ribs were AWESOME!! Chicken fried steak was all meat, no gristle, and not over breaded. Dinner was a 10/10. Our server Alyssa was awesome as well, checking on us regularly making sure our experience was topnotch. Ambiance is southern casual, mix of music on speakers but not too loud you have to yell to be heard. Overall10/10 will definitely be back when we come this way!!! read more

Just had the worst experience tonight at Nice Guy Ricky's. Our waitress was a young black man who was very respectful but not attentive at all to our table. He forgot my wife's drink which was the blue mermaid, and the icing on the cake was that the young gentleman completely forgot my entree of crawfish etoufee. I strongly believe that Nice Guy Ricky's can solve this issue by having more attentive managers that come check on the tables as other restaurants do. Tia Juanita's has this down to a T, so not really sure why Nice Guy Ricky's can't get it done. Pi$$ poor experience leaving a restaurant hungry. Y'all. Do yourselves a favor and stop in at Nice Guy Ricky's! We popped in after a baseball game, starving and cold. Greeted at the door, quickly sat and immediately waited on. Food came quickly, first to arrive was a hit cup of seafood gumbo. Now, I cook. I cook big. THIS was great seafood gumbo! The food. It tasted greasy, was over seasoned and salty. The waiters were wonderful but the food wasn't. I've eaten at the sister restaurant and found the food was quite good. While it seems quite popular it was also very expensive. The drinks were very watered down. My platinum Margarita had less than half a jigger of Tequila. Avoid at all costs. read more
