Nicholas Brawer is internationally recognized as the leading dealer in giant naval observation binoculars of the 1920s through the 1950s. Heritage Magazine for the Intelligent Collector described Nicholas as "truly a gentleman and a scholar...comfortable in any of the last three centuries." Established in 2008, the Nicholas Brawer Gallery moved to 1046 Madison Avenue. One day I was walking by and I was drawn inside by the fantastic merchandise in the window. I can't believe I didn't do a review. As you can see by my photos I love the collectibles and the especially the binoculars. I definitely would not be financially able to purchase anything here. I still love to look. I felt welcome so I recommend you visit if you like similar merchandise. For now I'll keep using my Bausch and Lomb binoculars. read more

I recently visited Nicholas Brawer Gallery on Madison Avenue, and I can honestly say it was one of the most pleasant and enriching gallery experiences I've ever had. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine warmth and respect, and the staff's politeness really set the tone for the rest of my visit. What stood out most was how attentively they listened. I had some very specific interests in sporting antiques and British campaign furniture, and instead of pushing me toward inventory that might simply sell, they asked thoughtful questions, discerned what I truly valued, and guided me accordingly. It felt like a collaborative process, rather than a sales pitch. Their knowledge is superb. The staff knows their pieces inside and out--historical origins, craftsmanship, unique features, even care and preservation--without making me feel ignorant for asking basic questions. The insights they shared added so much richness to what otherwise could have been just a superficial encounter with beautiful objects. Service was impeccable: no pressure, plenty of helpful suggestions, and a real sense that they want visitors to leave satisfied--whether or not you end up buying something. The atmosphere is refined but unpretentious, which makes it all the more comfortable. Seriously, one of the nicest people ever. Called to see about selling some antiques, and the owner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. He doesn't work with the items I have, but spent 20 minutes on the phone with me trouble shooting where to take them and gave me a ton of helpful recommendations!! This is a little jewel-box of collector pieces you've never seen...but you instantly adore! And when you meet Nicholas, you will feel a genuine warmth from his love of what he does as a curator of curious and fabulous collectable objet d'art. He is passionate and knowledgable and it shows when you meet him. Around every corner, there was an interesting piece that I had to pause to take in. There were dozens of classic model cars to choose from that are perfect for adding color and character to any man cave or library. **sorry for the photo reflection...I'm partial to Ferrari and they were in a glass case** Nicholas also has an exquisite selection of unique silver "pieces" such as flasks, desk objects, and other items perfect for the man or couple who "has everything". This is the place to go and get your perfect birthday gift or wedding gift, or even to get a hostess gift for staying with a friend. Let's don't forget the AWESOME giant binoculars he is known for! Seeing them in person is a true treat. If you have a boat...you'll dream of adding these binoculars to your "wish list". Need some help finding "just the right thing for" someone? Ask Nicholas - he will help you choose. And he will have all of the important details about provenance that discerning collectors require. Nicholas has a lot of nautical and automobile items, but my husband is an avid hunter and there are things for him too (which is why we stopped in).
