What a fantastic restaurant. Food is absolutely marvelous. I had a lamb kebabs and a bloody mary too and it was fantastic.

Service was spectacular, food was disastrous. Supermarket 1mm thick "gyro" meat that I highly doubt ever met a lamb. Not even the Kronos, a great option if you don't have a rotisserie, this was absolute garbage. And $4 for house made "hot sauce"? Get some samba in your life cause that was as depressing as the "meat". read more

I really don't recommend spending your money here. I'll say as a disclaimer my review is based on an Uber eats order. I think sometimes restaurants have a different level of quality or care for to go orders and I want to call that out. However, the food is quite expensive, and VERY disappointing. Things I ordered Pita bread - was extremely dry, leathery, un-chewable. Must have been stale. Dip mezza - hummus not smooth, no flavor, Lebneh was ok, baba ghanoush almost tasted of artificial smoke flavoring. Shatta - absolutely not shatta. It was oil with chopped herbs that has definitely gone bad. Again absolutely no flavor. Paid $5 for a tiny to go condiment cup of it! What a rip off. Falafel - meh. Lamp gyro - fiance thought it was ok, but also, very bland. There are so many good middle Eastern restaurants I will definitely never order from this restaurant again. This place is so yummy! Easily some of my favorite mediterranean food in Portland. I have definitely ordered this at least every year for tree lighting as takeout, it never disappoints. I highly recommend getting the mezza plates, lamb kabob, and the falafel wrap. Service is quick and the food is so good that you can't really go wrong with your order. It is also really good for leftovers if you over order, which is a common occurrence when I go since everything is so good. read more

This time around we had the Lamb Shwarma plate (YUM) and the spanikopita. The latter wasn't our favorite - it was dry, flavors were a bit off. Overall not our cup of tea. Have been to Nicholas a few times over 7 years and have never had a bad experience. Friendly and attentive staff and a pleasantly warm yet simple ambiance. In a city the likes of Portland size I find the food nice. Compared to other major cities with a larger presence of Lebanese and Mediterranean restaurants I'd say they won't be winning a Michelin star anytime soon. The falafel was only ground chicken peas. No parsley. This Nicholas is the worst. Everytime I order delivery from them they send the worst quality food. When I'm craving Mediterranean food, Nicholas constantly delivers! My friends and I visited recently before going to a show downtown. We loved the gold tiled walls, low ceiling, red plastic flowers, and intimate feeling. Before your meal, your server will bring you freshly baked, warm and fluffy naan with an olive oil and zaatar dipping sauce. So yummy! I decided to order the Meat Mezza which is what I usually order since it comes with a variety of items from the menu...Hummus, tzatziki, falafel, tabouli, a mini chicken pizza. and a beef kafta kabob. So many magnificent flavors! We also ordered a side of smoky baba ghanoush to dip our naan in after we finished the olive oil dip. Our waitress was kind enough to bring us more naan upon request. The food and the service are fine here but when I went about nine months ago and again a few days ago the place smelled strongly of disinfectant, like Pine-Sol and Fabuloso mixed, and like perhaps the whole container had been spilled. But when I was there a few days ago it was the same smell, and just as strong, so strong I couldn't finish my meal from the fumes and had to take it with me. The restaurant should be smelling like Middle Eastern food but all you smell is disinfectant. I will not be returning to this location. A solid casual spot for freshly made Lebanese food! Have ordered takeout from them before but, not surprisingly, dining in-person is way better. Freshly grilled pita bread was served with some zaatar and olive oil dip from the get-go. Super warm and tender. Their Falafels were also freshly fried, making them crispy and light. I enjoyed their lunch special of The Salmon Kabob Bowl a lot. Great portion of rice, slaw, and sauces. The Salmon Kabob itself was well-cooked, nicely charred but still flaky on the inside. Ordered takeout tonight from the Broadway location. The cabbage salad I paid $9.50 for was the smallest salad serving I could have imagined - it was less than a half pint container - FOR $9.50! I don't know if this salad always has servings this small or they ran out and just gave us what they had left but it is way too expensive for what I got. Super disappointed. The $8.00 soup I got was less than a pint size container. This was a little more reasonable but I couldn't help but wonder given the size of my other dish if that was how much you're supposed to get or if someone was just being lazy. We almost stuffed ourselves but had to contain ourselves before our actual meal came out The fries are good but the harrisa sauce adds more flavor so yes definitely great too My partner ordered the lamb gyro wrap and I got the zaatar salmon kabob salad. I would say one of the best grilled salmons I've ever had. It was well cooked and a tad crispy but just how I like it- you can also taste all the flavors in this one for sure!! Service is great and they also have outdoor seating if you like to have a nice lunch or dinner. Came here on a Friday for an early lunch with my mom. They got some gluten free pita cooked up for us right away. We so appreciated our server and told her what we wanted and she found a way to make it into a platter and the rest we ordered as separate sides. We had a bit of everything we wanted including tahini, babaganoush, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, tabouleh,and some sort of spinach thing which my mom had. Everything was gf except for the spinach thing. My mom enjoyed the gf pita with even though she is not gf. Great ambiance, cute lamps, great food, and service. They've fallen: no more Lebneh, a staple in the past. The server was unfamiliar with this common dish. Fatoush salad is gone. No more Peach drink, now they strangely offer Mango Lassi. The menu as a whole has been reduced to cater to the casual diner of Middle Eastern cuisine. What we had was good, the made to order bread is scrumptious as usual. Nicholas serves some of the best Greek food I have ever had, and it's no contest! Every single thing, from the piping hot pita bread, to the freshly made grape leaves with beef, the kofta sandwich and the veggie mezza plate (with a side of gyro meat, because we're like that) was just absolute perfection! The tahini and tzaziki sauce are unparalleled; the tzaziki was tart and creamy, lemony and just...damn, I have no words! And the tahini was savory and smooth, and rich without being heavy. I have never tasted a better example of either. The mezza plate was a cornucopia of wonderful things, which all ended up together in a pita wrap and some sauce. We were so enamored with everything, we ate slowly and savored every bite so we would have leftovers. I'm drooling at the thought of what's coming for breakfast (and lunch)! Add to it all a free baklava dessert, timely and friendly service, and a spinach pie that I was hesitant to try, and ended up falling in love with it, and you have what I would call the perfect dining experience. Who cares that everything came in plastic to-go containers, because of Covid-19? Absolutely nothing suffered because of it. Right now or favorite Mediterranean food in NE Portland. Chicken is tender, good quality and like the spices. Rice is moist. Salad mixture is more interesting than other places. The only downside was it was done early. You could tell as we got there 5 min early but when we got home only 5 min away the salad was warm and the chicken on top of it had cooled off and the pita was cold. Same for other sides. $9.50!???!! Uggg. 2) Inexcusable to charge $5.50 for "Turkish Coffee" that arrives in an ibrik but has no cardamom and no grit or grounds. I called them out on it and they admitted it was regular coffee. False advertising. If I am going to pay that much for coffee it better be what they claim it to be. 10 years ago I would have given this place 5 stars. I used to go to the one on Grand Ave and it was delicious. Then Broadway opened up, and every bit as good. I went last year and was so disappointed, I didn't want to finish. The person I was with didn't finish, in fact. I ordered everything I always have there, hummus, falafel, and dolmas. Every table is served a large (about 12") freshly baked pita bread. It is ABSOLUTELY delicious...just plain!! However, it also tastes amazing with a side of their great hummus.
